  1. We have never experienced a smaller cabin than the one we had mid-ship deck 5. No chair except for the stool under the desk.
  2. We spent 17 days on the Nieuw Statendam in September and we enjoyed it so much we are going back for 7 weeks starting next month. We are early eaters and never saw a crowded dining room. There was none of the horrible Celebrity two tops inches away from one's neighbor. Our waiters would get our wine minutes after we sat down. The meat was better than Celebrity with filet mignon still available in the mdr. We only went to the main theater twice. A mediocre comedian and the same dancers did not impress us at all. However, we enjoyed live music every night, from classical strings, to the BB Kings, twin pianos in Billboard, to a Rolling Stones Band. The music beats anything Celebrity has to offer (sorry but it's been two years). Celebrity nighttime entertainment centers around the theatre but with HAL, around real dance floors. We don't eat around the pool, but the main pool has a retractable roof that closes in inclement weather. The main attraction for us is the Crow's Nest, the forward observation lounge that Celebrity has removed from the new ships. The area is always full as opposed to the empty areas on Solstice class. The area also has power outlets for charging phones and computers. The crew is outstanding but senior officers are almost invisible. I like the exterior appearance of Celebrity ships better but HAL's newest are much more practical. Anyone looking for a washroom on Celebrity's Solstice class ships while in the observation lounge will find HAL's location more convenient.
  3. Years ago, (perhaps decades), I remember liquers at the ice cream station that the passenger could add.
  4. That's her. I finally guessed one right A group of starfish is called a galaxy. (According to one source.) Absolutely fantastic. I hope she makes it to Cruise Director or whatever the position is called on HAL.
  5. We were on N Statendam in September and we had a lovely young woman hosting the daily trivias. She was one of the best ever in handling the passengers and asking intelligent questions. We were hoping to see her again this November on NS but she told us she was transferring to the African cruise. She might not remember us but please say hello from an avid trivia couple on the Quebec to Boston cruise and back.
  6. I actually like HAL's new ships practicality. HAL's ships are not as stylish as Celebrity but The Crow's Nest is a whole new dimension compared to the absence of front views on the New Edge class.
  7. I bought 100 shares last week and Carnival is giving me $750 OBC in three B2B cruises, more than the cost of the stock. At what POINT WILL THEY CANCEL THIS PERK? Sorry for the caps..
  8. There is a phone number with the email, call it and the problem will go away.
  9. Babbling probably got its origin in Babylon at the tower of Bable. few understood it then and fewer now. It's just another babbling brook....
  10. We sailed on Nieuw Statendam B2B Quebec to Boston in September, our first HAL cruise since 2008. The friendliness of the crew and the quality of the food was better than we expected. Three trivias a day, excellent live music and actual dance floors were all better than our Celebrity cruises in each class (From Zenith to Edge). As a result, we booked 7 weeks on NS starting next month. I bought a 100 shares of CCL stock, sent in my Bank statement, our three B2B booking numbers yesterday and received confirmation before the day was out. This morning I received an email that our immigration details of where we were staying after our cruise was not complete. I checked our boarding info and there was no place to add that info. I called HAL, got a busy signal, and hung up. I tried again three minutes later and was connected without delay. The agent filled in the info: "at the pier" and the task was done. The experience on NS was not perfect, I caught a cold and tested positive for covid when I returned home and coughed for weeks. I found my home in the Crow's Nest and we are eager to go back.
  11. Wow. Only a music trivia for the entire day. When we were onboard our B2B last month there were three a day. The charming trivia queen moved over to the Africa run and it seems her trivia passion did not spread to the other hosts onboard.
  12. We were certainly impressed by our Nieuw Statendam cruises in September from Quebec to Boston and back. We had not sailed on HAL since 2008 but this ship layout, friendliness of the crew, and food quality convinced us to book 6 more weeks.
  13. There is no such thing as "too much trivia" On our recent Nieuw Statendam cruise there was standing room only every day. Prizes mean nothing but it is a great way to exercise the mind and meet new people.
  14. We’re in the same boat in attitude and sailing. Perhaps we will see you onboard
  15. You might find me up in the Crow's nest. We liked the NS so much we will be onboard for 7 weeks
  16. The main theatre is a big draw on Celebrity but shows do not change from week to week. Their live music is very limited and dance floors are rarely used. On their newer ships they are relegated to the atrium of high traffic areas.
  17. Where does one find a wine package on their website ?
  18. We tested the waters on HAL’s N Statendam after a two and a half year pause in our cruising addiction. We were greatly impressed with the food and quality of the live entertainment. We booked 4 more weeks for November-December as a result of our experience.
  19. We were long time Celebrity cruisers and decided on taking a HAL cruise. We enjoyed our recent cruise on Nieuw Statendam so much we booked two more. The food in the main dining room was great
  20. I cancelled mine when I stopped cruising and they stopped giving points on US$ purchases.. I also had a Scotia passport which I dumped because their annual fee was more than my annual savings.. Now that we are dipping our toes in cruising again, the Home Trust Visa might be worthwhile again. If one gets points for spending it's tough to calculate the 2.5 % charge vs the points to use at hotels such as AMEX Bonvoy which gives a free hotel room every year... in US funds.
  21. If one selects paying by cash, do you pay daily or their guess at overall spending for the whole cruise? We have the get it all package and don't expect to spend much on board.
