  1. How does that work? Is she still moving when you go onboard? How many people? s
  2. They've obviously been looking at this discussion...
  3. This is what we thought yesterday, even with the shorter distance you found compared with the one I found.
  4. I think responsibility also lies with the cruise line or airline; I suspect they pay in the first instance if they had let you sail/fly with incomplete info - hence at Southampton they ask to see proof of ESTA; they aren't helping you...
  5. It’s on a go slow from Ryde… 2 hours where an IoW ferry from Cowes to Soton takes just under an hour.
  6. Won’t have 3 weeks unfortunately. Was thinking 2 days each to and from Vancouver and 4 days at Banff/Jasper or LL. I know not ideal.. and it’s supposedly 8 or 9 hours from Vancouver to Banff could be done in one day with 2 drivers… Not retired yet so can’t take 3 weeks! Or even 2 as would like to spend sometime in Vancouver.
  7. checked again as nothing direct showed up last time. Would have to be AA/BA and it’s suggesting via Chicago or…. Dallas. My US geography isn’t great but Dallas is almost in the wrong direction… will go back to Vancouver one way or other. Can fly to Vancouver from Calgary.
  8. Only runs every 3 days and sleeper berth prices very expensive. Was thinking hiring a car and doing a big loop over about 8 to 10 days. Vancouver, Whistler, Jasper, Banff, Vancouver. Trying to use BA Avios so have to be in and out of Vancouver I think.
  9. Their app also doesn’t list the maiden voyage in upcoming cruises… nor does Cunard in cruises but I assume that that’s because there are no tickets available
  10. I can’t see how she will be even by the maths you did with the shorter distance. Can’t steam at 21 knots up the Solent.
  11. That’s what I thought as it’s port times but someone said it was at nab. Reporting times that aren’t actually arrival times but T-2:45 aren’t much use to anyone.
  12. Thanks for the better link. Currently still says 14:45 at nab on Southampton VTS. 22kn is her top speed I think
  13. If the 1374nm is correct still rather quick. Currently 21.1knots well clear of Gibraltar so presumably that’s the fastest she is going to go…
  14. On her way. Still 11:15 ETA on 30th. But that doesn’t seem possible 1374nm in 48 hours is 28 knots…
  15. I arrive a day early… living 2.5 hours away from Southampton!
  16. Planning a Vancouver and Rocky Mountain road trip for next Autumn! Haven’t been for 45 years… Back then took overnight normal train from Vancouver to Banff. Doesn’t exist now - only the very expensive Rocky Mountaineer which takes ages and is for tourists only. I see why flights to London aren’t much longer than to NYC - great circle routes and all that.
  17. If you do put bags in the hold I totally recommend AirTags (if you are an Apple user). You know where your bags are… useful too at Brooklyn arrivals… I am nowhere disciplined enough to be able to cruise with only carry on. Carry on only works for a 2 or 3 night break for us.
  18. Americans call BA British Air it seems. 23kg is a very heavy small bag. Our large cases (obviously full of shirts both short sleeved and long sleeved 😉) never seem to weigh that much. But you are indeed correct! BA are generally pretty relaxed about bags. Certainly no Ryanair. (Club allows 2 x 32kg hold bags per person - very useful on skiing holidays)
  19. Do they ever find someone who can’t be let in…? And if they don’t have a return crossing what happens?
  20. They must do. Sounds great as they get 5 days of doing nothing… someone will know…
  21. Staring at phones was a bit pointless on QM2 with the “internet” as it was but Starlink may mean a bit more staring. Give QM2 a go if you can.
  22. Booked one for Sep…. 2026… nothing like preparing early. But am from UK, so flying to NYC and back from Montreal…transatlantic flights no big deal 😉
  23. We wish we had done self disembarkation but only because it’s not difficult and you are in control. As it was we were front of the queue as was QG so was quite easy and were straight through immigration and could catch a cab off the rank. but may have taken a lot longer if further back by priority - have been through JFK so know what US immigration can be like.
  24. I guess it’s tricky because of the fingerprints/photo, but U.K. is introducing something similar so it may change for eastbound crossings in time.
