I wonder if watching YouTube videos in advance (you could moderate the volume) would help make a dreaded thing into a something to look forward to thing...

maryred - I LOVE your accurate, current, well portrayed, in depth, informative, non-judgemental post!!

Not sure this is accurate. I believe OP is correct.
I agree.
And if you look at the benefit list for platinum and diamonds, first access to stateroom is NOT among the listed perks.

No they don't.
Yes they do.

Do you have the link to your post or what was the title, I would be interested in reading it. I am going on this ship in June.

There doesn't seem to be one for that date yet. You can start one or just keep checking.

Excellent photos - thank you so much!

I use a KYSS bag and I love it. It is knife resistant and has a combination lock and chain. I always attach it to two lounge chairs. It is perfect for ensuring our valuables are right where we put them. Here is a link to the bag I use. Note: I bought the large and found that I don't need one quite that big...I am planning on getting the medium next.
I agree with KYSS bag.
I bought the 'compact' size and can also use it as a shopping tote or large purse. I don't wordy with trying to keep towels, etc in it.
I bought mine in blue (royal, maybe?) so hubby doesn't look silly if he carries it.

I finally found the right place to make the reservations for each night. Is there anyplace where you can verify on the website that the selected dining time actually went through? I don't want to get to the dining room on the first night and find out they have no record of the reservation.
If you go to your calendar it should show day-by-day what reservations you have booked, including dining and excursions.
-
nothing that's going to make the cover of Nat'l Geo, but they were out
Is there a time of night that's best to look?
-
I am new to Celebrity and I find their website to be horrible. You would think that when you click "manage my reservation" that you can easily see which excursions/meals you have booked, and on what days. The only way I can see it is to click on "view my previous orders". I would assume that this means that I have actually been booked on my excursions, but I printed the page off just in case.
You may be able to find a listing under Calendar.
For me it shows day-by-day what we have scheduled and booked.

Are the cruise gods telling me don't do it?
I decided to book anyway. I contacted the site where TAs bid. I got three really good offers and emailed them with some minor questions.
NONE of them responded.
Maybe it's a sign.Maybe TAs are having trouble getting info too!

Walmart has eclipse glasses for $1 and glasses + booklet for $3.47.
Glasses meet requirements for ISO 12312-2.

.......what am I crazy? I'm going to pay money to be driven crazy.

Any word on what Solstice did today?
Tracy Arm, Endicott, or neither.
-
Jim here from the June 16 cruise. They are two separate shuttles. Because Solstice gets in so late (after the glacier) she gets the furthest out pier which is a long walk (more than a mile) from downtown along roads with no sidewalks. So X shuttles you into town at no cost. Then there is the other $5 shuttle for those that want to take it.
^^ I copied this blurb from another thread.

I have a love/hate relationship with Mercury.
Sailed her to Alaska in 2007. Best cruise ever to that point. Beautiful ship, excellent crew/staff, etc.
Fast forward to February 2010 we cruised her again - everything that could go wrong did go wrong!
Booked a balcony that they misrepresented, although when I proved they were lying they upgraded us at no charge.
Sailing was delayed maybe 36 hours due to norovirus and CDC. (Sorry ma'am, we can't find any more hotel rooms, you're on your own.)
Missed Key West entirely where we had planned to spend Hubby's retirement date.
Midway thru cruise hubby contracted norovirus and was quarantined last 4-5 days. I spent those last days scrounging the ship looking for jello, crackers, force feeding him Gatorade, begging for clean linens, etc.

We attend production shows and entertainment unless it's one we've already seen.
We avoid the shopping shows that are thinly veiled as port talks.

That's a good idea! I think you and I are talking about something entirely different from the rest of the posters.....now that I see the picture, I understand....my problem is height....I don't have much:D....I would have to stand on the bed in order to reach the over-head cabinets, so I will continue using my zip locks cause I can stack them on the floor of the cabinets or in the drawers.
Yeah, I'm a shortie!
They make a pop up hamper, maybe 15x15x24"... I found a pop up laundry basket!
I put my ziplocked clothes in it like a filing cabinet. Dirties get filed at the back or dropped into suitcase.
And I can use it when doing laundry if it's a long trip.
-
Instead of packing cubes I use jumbo zip lock bags and they work just fine. I pack each day's intended outfit in a bag and the clothes stay fresh and unwrinkled...they going home I use the bags for laundry or stuff that needs to be wrapped in something for breakage...or may be a little damp..or could leak/break. Cheaper than cubes...and you can buy them in your local supermarket.
I use these as well.
And I turn my dirty clothes wrong side out, refold and put back into the bag. Keeps any stains, dirt or sweat from getting to my clean things.
(wrong side out just reminds me what's dirty)

My apologies if I misunderstood the question... I thought OP was asking about transportation going from Solstice dock.
The shuttle I've referenced below goes only between Solstice dock and base of tram, bringing folks from outlying berth to the populated area.
-
'We were docked at the AJ Dock which is straight ahead.....it was the furthest out from downtown, but they had free shuttle buses that ran every 15 minutes so you were always able to get a ride coming and going.'
^^^ this is from a trip review in the Ports of Call - Alaska forum.

I used a site in the past called

but don't know if it's still up and running.
It was haphazard in accuracy at best.
