  1. Thank you for the reply!

On our previous Alaska cruise our ship stopped about 4-5 miles away from Hubbard Glacier. We were very disappointed, especially watching other ships go WAY closer than us.

    (That was on the Mercury.)

We've booked the excursion this cruise and would really hate to miss it.

  2. I wonder how difficult it would be too rig a way to run water into the large beach ball? Would help hold it down on the balcony.

(I used to take students on service trips. I'd take a beach ball and pillow case. Ball inflated inside case became my sleeping pillow. At end of trip ball went to a local kid and pillow case became my dirty clothes hamper.)

  3. Actually, it IS hurricane season... 6-1-17 ~ 11-30-17.

I've cruised in October several times with no problem. The only 2 times we were delayed was when ship had a norovirus outbreak and we were about 36 hours late boarding and in Jacksonville a 6 (or maybe 8?) hour delay because of tides. (Ship can't go under bridge if tide is too high.)

  4. I agree - when hubby and I started pricing out our upcoming cruise the prices just seemed higher than we wanted to spend and included some perks we didn't particularly want.

After trying out different pricing variations I found we could save about $700 by NOT taking perks and by using resident discount. (Senior discount was the same rate.)

  5. Reality is you only get so many times to experience these events. Take what you get, enjoy it. we will be on legend off vancouver island heading back to seatte. Already has glasses in the suitcase ready to go.

There is another eclipse in april of 2024 running up from texas through the great lakes and exiting through newfoundland.

    i love this!

  6. I just returned and took that excursion last week. We did not go into the Tracy Arm due to too much ice, but we went into the Endicott Arm and saw the Dawes Glacier which was amazing. I booked our excursion about two weeks before our sail date. I would suggest calling Celebrity and they can tell you how close it is to selling out. If it is a tour you are interested in I would go ahead and book it now, it is well worth the money.

Don't want to hijack the thread but did you feel like you got appreciably closer to glacier on smaller boat?

Our previous cruise on Mercury, ship stopped about 4-5 miles away from glacier (Hubbard) - it was quite disappointing.

We've booked excursion from Solstice in Tracy Arm hoping to get a little up close and personal this time :) .
