It’s been a minute since our last cruise questions…
IAcruising replied to Glen&Kathy's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
1. In my head I'm thinking it's been a gradual thing starting with Cagney's and Le Bistro, and then spreading. 2. There are ports (Miami and New York come to mind) that charge a small tax on drinks ordered while in port. Then there's the whole EU thing, which I haven't experienced. 3. Standard NCL customer service. You should all get an FCC, just once. -
Can you bring a new bottle of hot sauce on the ship ?

It had to be one of these two things you missed. Man, that's a nightmare scenario. Pleased to hear it worked out.

I never knew such a machine existed.

Serious question. How does one get change in a closed casino?

A question for passengers now on the ENCORE

We'll be doing the reverse repo in April. Do you know your current occupancy? Age demographic? Number of rugrats? 😄 Just curious about what we should reasonably expect. -
NCL newby here looking for some input.....
IAcruising replied to SPacificbound's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
We were on a packed Prima, and finding a quiet place anywhere was often difficult. However, the Metropolitan is located in the middle of specialty dining restaurants and small entertainment venues, so is usually pretty quiet during the day, when open. The whiskey bar, while in a fairly common area can be somewhat quite during the day. The Belvedere usually opened midafternoon and was quiet and serene until Cagney's and the Commodore started getting dinner guests. The Observation Lounge is large, and we could always find a place to sit in relative peace earlier in the afternoon. The servers were also excellent here. Basically, as with any ship, you have to search around, find out where the crowds are, and go the other way. -

How about asking a question or two? -
It is. Sorry you had to learn the hard way.

Another NCL newbie question. Is vibe worth $249

I would add that I hear more complaints about the ship exhaust than I do about the cigarette smoke. And even that is rare. -
That's the first I've heard Moderno called "high-end". I understand that tenderloin has been replaced at Teppanyaki. I just assumed the same at Moderno. Again, pleasantly surprised that my assumption was incorrect.

Post Cruise Review - Escape 11/5-11/10/23
IAcruising replied to Coreysgrl06's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
I’m not going to quote a bunch of stuff, so I’ll just give the post # and readers can go back to compare if they want. I just find it fascinating how similar, or different, perceptions can be on the exact same cruise. Regarding your Post #1: We stayed in Flushing, near La Guardia, for the free shuttle from the airport. Very smooth, hotel was great, surprisingly cheap food and drinks for a Sheraton in NYC. We were concerned about the trip from Flushing to the port on Marathon Sunday. Our concerns were ill-informed. For $60, we got to the port in exactly 28-minutes. Unreal. Long lines at the terminal, but it moved quickly and smoothly. We got there at 9:30 and we in the waiting area at 10:15. Boarded the ship at almost exactly noon. We totally avoided the buffet (you have been judged) and ate at Savor (or Taste, don’t remember) and the atmosphere was calm, quiet, and the food and service were great. Post #2 After lunch, we went straight to Tobacco Road and ordered drinks. It was nearly empty, and we had our drinks in about 30-seconds. We explored, checked out Spice (I smoke), and rooms were called at 2:30 (not 1:30), unless our clocks were wrong. Bags were lined up in the hallway, but not yet distributed. We looked but couldn’t find ours. Room: Deck 10, 10196, Club Balcony. We also had a sewer smell when we walked in. I ran the faucets, flushed the toilet, and once we were sailing, it went away. It returned a couple of times, but was never overly annoying. I don’t think my wife ever noticed it. There was also the same sewer smell at random times, in random areas, but never seemed to last, or be in the same place twice. Weird. Bars: Yes, busy. But I’ve been around the block a bit. We always found the quietest bars and the quickest service. And there are some tricks. We had no problem. Internet: No problem for us posting updates and pics within the 75-minutes. Again, tricks you just need to learn. -
I was a butcher and owned a meat market for 7-years. Yes, there is indeed "fake" tenderloin. 😎 I honestly did not expect true beef tenderloin in Moderno. I was pleasantly proven wrong.

Post Cruise Review - Escape 11/5-11/10/23
IAcruising replied to Coreysgrl06's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
We were there with you. It was packed, but way better than I anticipated given the circumstances we found ourselves in. We were expecting the worst with Jersey Week. I have a lot to read and compare, but my first impression was that you East Coasters are a very cool crowd to cruise with. (never thought those words would come from an Iowa guy) -
Any recent hash brown sightings?
IAcruising replied to Seas2mountains's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
Those tator-tot thingies were what we had on the Prima last February. They were just fine. Now, even those seem to be long gone. -
Oh my. This is impossible to answer. We just tipped our room steward $30 for 5-days. Some will call me a total miser, while others will say it was a total waste of money. You do you.

All good stuff here, OP. We have both Etrade and Schwab. Both are super simple to set up an account and get what you need within days. Probably the best advice is to see what you already have in an IRA or other employer sponsored account. Most will let you buy and sell whatever you want. In the end, if you have cruises planned with NCL, buy the 100 shares by whatever means necessary. It's a great dividend.

Speciality Dinning Vouchers
IAcruising replied to nextcruiseonmymind's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
As I understand it (probably wrong), the platinum voucher, for two, belongs to you. You can invite whatever 2nd person you wish. -
We got actual, real, not-fake, perfectly grilled beef tenderloin at Moderno on our first sea day last week. I was shocked. It was incredible. It was about the 5th option offered, but oh my. Wait for it. Oops, I got carried away. As for the OP, skip the supper club.

Can I skip a port on an NCL Dawn cruise?
IAcruising replied to Arizonee's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
Well, you suggested "accidentally" missing the ship, affecting every.single.other.person on the cruise. That's going to get you a bit of negative feedback. Welcome to CC. -

No hash browns on the Escape last week. I will never sail NCL again, until next April. -
A question for passengers now on the ENCORE
IAcruising replied to marne-c's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
I'm a bit confused by your questions and/or comments. I assume both of the ships are repos from Alaska to Caribbean, right? I'm confused by the "events may have overtaken that stop for us (as they may have for you.)" What does that mean, exactly?
