Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Adding to @jelayne's response. There are also often line dance/dance style activities in the Grand Foyer.
  2. Personally, I love Tuscan. But if there's a LCG on the ship, the weather is good, and I have to choose one, I'll go for the view from the top. We've never had a bad meal at Tuscan.
  3. Depends what you like to eat. Lawn Club Grill is my favourite and I would pick it over Murano any day. (Don't eat most fish or shellfish because of allergies). I also like the atmosphere, especially on a nice evening. My husband would eat at Murano every single night. If you haven't eaten at Le Petit Chef, the food was really good. Definitely worth a visit at least once.
  4. We had an infinite balcony room on Ascent and it was the worst part of the room. Our pros and cons: PRO There's a bit more space CONS: You lose the use of the balcony as a second room. With a regular balcony, one can sit outside while the other sleeps, watches TV, reads, whatever. Even if one sits out with the door closed, once the window is open the AC goes off. Captain locks off the window from time to time for weather reasons and I would like the choice to go out on the balcony to see how conditions are It's not at all a balcony experience. It's like sitting beside an open window. You don't get the outdoor experience. The shade wasn't as room darkening as the old blackout curtains We would downgrade to a OV before booking another infinite balcony.
  5. @Tom and Ingrid summed it up well. On our last repositioning cruise (October), most people were in casual to semi-cocktail dress, but there was a group that dressed every evening. Tuxedos, gowns, the whole bit. They looked fabulous. I would like to dress up more but my husband hates suits, and the tuxedo is at the back of the closet. So it's cocktail-length dresses. And I bring things that are fussy to deal with. If something needs to be pressed, I pay the money and have it pressed.
  6. It's usually very quick. I'm Canadian but husband is American so that complicates things a bit. Last time (a year ago) we basically walked right through. Not guaranteeing this, but this was our experience.
  7. We sailed on Ascent for the Christmas cruise this past December. This was the 4th time we had sailed at Christmas on Celebrity so we had a good idea what to expect. It was impossible to find available times in Specialty Dining except for a few options at 930 PM (too late for us!). Beginning in early October, I tried booking online and I even spoke to Captain's Club. Everything was booked ... We wound up eating in SD only one night (Eden - and it was excellent, worth every penny). As it turned out, the sailing had a number of large families - big groups of 25 or more, and since many of those groups had someone in a suite, they seemed to snag all of the reservations. We've never before encountered this and I don't know if it was because the ship was brand new, or sailing from FLL, or people are still wanting special travel experiences. The downside was that we didn't get a chance to try any of the other SD restaurants. The upside was that we were always able to get a table in Blu the minute we walked in since so many people were dining with families in SD or one of the MDRs. So my suggestion would be to find out exactly when you can reserve and book early. You can always cancel later if your plans change.
  8. I've flown hundreds of times just in the past decade through airports in Canada, the US and Europe and it is VERY CLEARLY announced that you have to remove any medications that you may need. And if you can't hear the announcements then how would you know that they're looking for volunteers to check bags?
  9. The announcements made in the boarding area are VERY CLEAR that you need to remove any medications or other things you really need. If this person chose to leave their meds in that bag, that was their mistake.
  10. I've never been charged an FX fee with that card. Very weird. I don't use it in the US (I have an American AMEX that I use there) but no charges in the UK or Europe. How odd ...
  11. I have a Cobalt card. Haven't been charged FX fees - ever.
  12. I use an American Express when we're outside of Canada and pay no foreign exchange fees.
  13. Sounds to me like the passenger completely overreacted to her bag possibly being left at the gate. And if she's going to overreact and be a problem before the flight even takes off, would I want her on the plane to do something stupid over the Atlantic? Nope ... Agree that there is more of this these days - people young and old overreacting to all kinds of things and unfortunately, those of us who can control our reactions end up being impacted.
  14. Unable to log in on my computer (Safari), on my iPhone (app) or on my iPhone (browser). I'm getting the 'incorrect password' message. If Celebity wants us to change our passwords because of an upgrade, their IT department should spend 2 seconds changing the messaging to read "you must change your password". Ridiculous. We went through the same thing last year.
  15. Layers. I've taken many transatlantic cruises with weather ranging from hot (Florida) to snow in the Bay of Biscay. Easier to pack fewer things of each category (shorts, jeans, sweaters) and rewear things if necessary. Definitely take a rain coat that is windproof and a scarf.
