  1. Me..........:D

hey everyone Shiona here formerly known for many years as badgerbill, and I am very proud and humbled to announce I have been chosen to be the very first Australian/New Zealand host here on Cruise Critic.. by admission I am not only a cruise addict, having done well over 350 cruise days to many wonderful place's worldwide with various cruise lines, by some counts a newbie!!!, but a cruise critic addict as well...

Having been a member here since 2006 I hope that some of what I have learned through both past and current members and have passed on has been of some benefit to others...

Our cruise industry here is growing and growing and we all have so much to give to each other and to our new members so lets all work together in making our section of Cruise Critic "the place to go for cruise info" with this in mind I will be watching to make sure we keep our boards as clean, honest and legitimate as humanly possible :D:D

I look forward to the continued and increased success of Cruise Critic here in our two beautiful countries and if i can help at all please feel free to contact me ...

    Congratulations Shiona

  2. Hi Everyone,
I am considering to book only ships that are in Australian $, With the falling $,it will be becoming too expensive to consider any ship that charges US$ onboard ,mind you my next 4 cruises are all US $ but I have a :)bit left over from last year's buying OBC and having some left over ,but after that I guess only P&O :(,some of the Princess ships -have to check Golden Princess-there is a cruise to Tassie next Feb that I was considering .
    Cheers Deb
  3. Hi Everyone ,

I still believe in the upgrade Fairy !!!

You wanted to know how we end up with upgrades on GTY cabins ,

I have booked GTY cabins a lot in the last 3 years ,usually end up with what I paid for ,lowest grade cabin etc ,but last year I booked as a solo ,had a lot of family coming on their first cruise so thought a balcony so that I could show it off since they were all booking inside cabins , so booked ,within 5 days (3 months before sailing )I had the Penthouse suite allocated to me ,Thought they would be moving me ,as some people on the boards had suggested they would ,didn't get moved at all and daughter was given an upgrade as well ,she had the interconnecting Sky suite ,the other family members weren't given upgrades , they were in the inside cabins ,the up grade fairy certainly loved me . Have 4 other cruises booked at the moment ,the Jan 2017 one has been allocated 1026 on the Radiance seas ,it is really close to the forward lifts ,the one coming up in November -Celebrity Solstice , has been allocated ,lowest cat again deck 6 towards the back ,but who really cares I can still sit on a balcony ,that has to be better than an inside cabin. I still believe in the upgrade Fairy !!!

    Cheers Deb

  5. Hi Everyone ,

I wasn't happy with the new sale pricing on Royal Caribbean ,but decided to bite the bullet and book anyway (for my birthday and the itinerary stops at my son's home port- yes get to see my grandson),booked a Balcony guarantee at the price of an inside cabin(which was cheaper last week) going thru the booking was happy to find that I had been given an additional $252 discount as a Crown and Anchor ,which made the total cost of my cabin $1487 ,felt the price for a single was ok.That is cheaper than what my quote was last week for a inside cabin ,so happy with that .A balcony is a added bonus for me.

So if you have Crown and Anchor it might be worth checking the price.

    Cheers Deb

  6. what are you looking to insure re missed port? Cost of pre-paid independent tour, part of your cruise fare, .....??

Clearly there is no insurance to ensure you don't miss a port, which can happen for so many reasons, so what can be insured is not clear to me

Hi Mr walker, I was going to book a very expensive group shore tour and wanted to cover it in the case of missing the port next year .They have have stated it is a non refundable deposit .

    Cheers Deb

  7. HI Everyone ,

I know there are a lot of previous posts re Travel insurance tried doing the normal searches ,I know I had read about it somewhere ,thought it was on Cruise Critic but maybe not ....so bear with me ..:)

Question is ..What Travel insurance covers missed ports ,I remember someone saying they were able to claim on their travel insurance (which i hadn't ever heard of before ).when the ship was unable to go where they had booked due to the really bad weather .

Anyone able to refresh my memory?

    Cheers Deb

  8. Hi Everyone ,

Which one ? Has anyone stayed here ? They have a great special at the moment ,so considering both ,any other suggestions .?

I will be staying in Sydney 2 days pre cruise in November to see the 5 ships in the harbour ,have narrowed it down to staying somewhere where I can have my meals ie kitchenette ,has anyone stayed at either of these 2 places, know i will need a taxi for Circular Quay ,which locations would be the best in your opinion ?

    Cheers Deb

  9. Well all she could have is the non-alcoholic package either $8 a day or $16 a day [off the top of my head], would you be better with the OBC for each of you then buy your drinks package and soda package for her.

    Hi GUT2407,

We only have $200 OBC -$100 each  ,I weighed up what I normally spend on 2 cocktails and 2 wine with dinner, coffee every morning at the cafe ,then decided that I would better value having the drink package.,rather than a $100 obc .

    Cheers Deb
