  1. We went to Wala several years ago but haven't yet been to Santo.

We really enjoyed Wala although there isn't much there in some respects. We took a guided tour with one of the locals which was a heap of fun. I think we paid $5 each and found the tour quite informative. At various parts along the track the locals had displays of craft or skills such as lighting fires.

We took the tour as a way of leaving some $ behind but obviously it's optional.

We were on a smallish ship at the time with 680 passengers so not sure what Wala would be like when a large ship arrives :)

Things may have changed since our visit, so perhaps someone with more recent info may answer your post. I hope you enjoy your visit there as much as we did.

Thank you for reply bronte2,from all accounts it looks likea good idea to take a tour ,looking forward to seeing these both these islands now.

    Cheers Deb

  2. Deb we have been to both stops, Wala is a tender port and as Bronte said its very nice, you can do a guided tour around their village for a fee, lovely spot for a swim...if its been raining the night before dont wear your good shoes as it can get very muddy

with Santo its a nice place but i'd advise to do either a ships tour or get a private vechicle with a few friends from the dock, they can take you to the Blue Hole as its only about an hour or so drive...not much to see in the main street...if you want to check your emails they have an internet cafe in town

Thankyou rkmw, will take your advice and do the village tour in Wala ,old shoes sound like a great idea ..I was going to buy new ones for the cruise , but will save my money instead.I have a feeling that I have been to the blue hole ,when in Champagne Bay ,we went on a tour to the blue hole ..I wonder if its the same one?

    Cheers Deb

  3. The room service is quite small (not many items) and there is a charge per item. We didnt bother and just brought plates from the buffet back to our room. Even after our son went to sleep one of us would duck up to the buffet and grab ice cream and a drink and bring it back. Soft serve + wine on our room balcony was lovely each evening!

Thanks mtn _couple ,it sounds like a great idea ..:)

    cheers Deb :D

  4. Hi Deb I forgot to say if you want to check out what these cabins/balconies look like just search 'obstructed view balconies Carnival Spirit or Carnival Legend '(sister ship) on youtube heaps of people have posted short videos.

Thanks Bella , only took me a couple of hours to check them out I got so involved in them :),some are hardly obstructed at all. :DCheers Deb

  5. I think I can answer this one, I have done a fair bit of research regarding Carnival Spirit's obstructed balcony cabins prior to our booking.

If you have booked a balcony guarantee then the lowest category you can be allocated are the obstructed view balcony cabins on deck 5 (upper deck).

These cabins have fully usable balconies and the ones adjacent to the tender boats ( the first 3 boats on each side) have the top of the boats coming up to the railing on there balconies so you can see the sea looking out whilst standing but are obviously quite obstructed when sitting on your balcony. All the other cabins in this category (aft of the first three boats) are adjacent to the much lower life boats and the top of these boats only comes up level with the floor of your balcony so they are only obstructed looking straight down.

I think the cabins you are referring to without usable balconies are the "French Door" cabins on deck 4. From what I understand these are almost totally obstructed and whilst you can open these doors they have no actual balcony there is just a narrow walkway and the hull of the boats out side these cabins. If you booked a Balcony guarantee you would not be allocated one of these as they are a lower category referred to as 'obstructed inside cabins'. If your not sure maybe check with Carnival or you TA.

I hope you get a good one.:)

Thankyou Bella cruiser, very interesting ,:) what I thought is if you have a lifeboat in front of you , you weren't allowed to use the balcony at all , you have put my mind to rest thanks .your research is very well explained.

Travel agent wasn't very helpful when I contacted him today:( .Won't be using them again .:(

I hope so to , it is the luck of the draw.

    Deb

  6. Hi Everyone , :)

We are booked into guaranteed Balcony cabins on the Carnival Spirit , my question is ..

Has anyone been on this ship previously on guaranteed cabins ,do you know when they allocate the cabins?I have studied where all the balcony cabins are and there is big possibility that we get the lowest possible balcony cabins ,they are obstructed by the life boats and the balconies cannot be used .

I am hoping to know when they allocate cabins, so that I can ring the travel agent to change if we get the worst cabins .

Can anyone answer this question .When do Carnival do allocations?

    Cheers Deb :)

  7. Hi

I've been reading the suggestions of what to take, thanks for some great ideas i wouldn't of thought of, one thing mentioned was the purchase of lanyards. The last time i cruised P & O provided these when you got your cruise card is this still the case or have they gone away from providing them.

They sell them now. if I remember right about $6 each.we sailed on the Pacific Sun in Feb 07. Something to remember the cruise by, and a good talking point when you get back, accidently wear it work, shopping etc.Gives you a chance to tell everyone about your great cruise.

    Enjoy your cruise.

    Deb:)
