  1. Anytime, Lenda. You have good cause to vent. Well, darn? Do they know where his luggage is? At least the important item arrived safely. No kidding! I'd be a bit upset about that!
  2. Good morning, everyone! It looks like rain here in mid-Michigan this morning. The weather forecast says it should start later this morning. Oh, well. I have a luncheon to go to today and then we'll see what shakes out. Happy Birthday to Allen and Keith: @Seasick Sailor Joy's DH and @rafinmd Roy's nephew. Thank you @cruising sister for the update on baby Murphy. Prayers that she recovers completely from her stroke. And good for you, booking the wellness spa. I'm glad your niece is able to join you for part of the time. The salt and pepper fish looks good to me! I would probably really enjoy it, but won't make it due to the frying part of it. I'm sure just baking it takes away from the dish. I'd gladly eat it if someone else made it. Here's our first recipe: https://www.theendlessmeal.com/salt-and-pepper-fish/ This next one has a slightly different batter. But, it sounds equally delicious. https://honest-food.net/chinese-salt-pepper-fish-recipe/ This last one does not have a batter, which seems a touch healthier to me. It might be my choice! https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/pan-seared-salt-and-pepper-fish Wishing you all a wonderful day!
  3. @marshhawk Add me to the list that says Chuck should go visit his mom. You never regret visiting Mom and most moms would love the visit. He may have tons of future visits, but this one is still important to a mom. Also, yes, shop around on the therapists.
  4. Good morning, everyone! It is a beautiful morning here in mid-Michigan. We have abundant sunshine and moderate temperatures. I'm hoping the pollen situation gets better as my eyes have been a mess! Eye drops help. Maybe a few sea days later this month will take care of that! @smitty34877 I hear you on getting out of the pool. It feels like you are carrying a ton of weight when you try to climb out. After my hip operation, I could not use the "steps" that are built into the wall of the pool to save me. And, I had to have a railing to use the normal steps. @StLouisCruisers the puppies are adorable. It almost made me want one. Today's meal doesn't fit the quote of the day as it would be too healthy. I've never had a salmon burger, but I've seen them in the meat case at the grocery store. They might be worth a try. I have had tuna burgers and they are kind of along the same idea. Here's a healthy version with slaw instead of a bun. https://pinchofyum.com/yummy-salmon-burgers-slaw Here's a recipe from The Food Network. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchen/perfect-salmon-burgers-recipe-2105786 This next recipe uses no breadcrumbs. Too often fish cakes, crab cakes, and the like are too full of breadcrumbs and lacking the main ingredient. https://www.wellplated.com/salmon-burgers/ And this one sounds delicious. It is seasoned with Old Bay and topped with Havarti, caramelized onions, and avocado. Mmmmmm https://themodernproper.com/salmon-burgers I hope one of these stands out to you! Wishing you all a wonderful day!
  5. What wonderful news! Murphy is the second Daily baby we have nurtured through a difficult start in life, Miss Camilla being the first. They will always be dear to us.
  6. Good luck with the new meds. I found the Rybelsus a little bit of a pain in the neck because you can't have anything else to eat or drink for at least 30 minutes after taking it. What? Wait for my coffee? It also has a horrid aftertaste. @Crazy For Cats We've been counting down for a while now. It takes discipline to wait until 10 days out!
  7. Good morning, everyone! It is a chilly, gloomy start to the day here in mid-Michigan. It finally hit 60F and the projected high is 74. I'm fine with that! My allergies have been kicking up a storm the past few days. My left eye is really itchy. I have eye drops for it when it gets that way, but even those have their limit. We have nothing planned for today except a walk around the neighborhood. Today's meal is really easy and should be very tasty. The trick to this first recipe is to continuously baste the salmon with the butter while cooking. https://www.recipetineats.com/garlic-butter-salmon-recipe/ This next one is super easy as it is a sheet pan recipe that comes complete with asparagus and potatoes - all done together! https://cafedelites.com/sheet-pan-garlic-butter-baked-salmon/ This last recipe bakes the salmon in a packet, allowing it to steam in the packet and producing a nice, soft texture to the fish. You finish it off by broiling for a minute or two to brown up the top, if you wish. https://www.primaverakitchen.com/garlic-butter-salmon-in-foil-recipe/ I hope you enjoy the recipes and find one method of preparation that works for you. Salmon is a very healthy meal choice! Wishing you all a wonderful day.
  8. I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend, Vanessa. Condolences to her family and thankfulness that she is now at peace.
  9. Good morning, everyone! I slept in a bit this morning as I had a hard time getting to sleep last night. I am still draining from my sinuses and that kept me coughing. Then, my back started to join the party and I had pains all down my legs. Grrrr. I hate nights like that, but fortunately, they are few and far between. The latest update on our cruise is that we are not going to Red Bay. A notice came out from HAL today. Today we are meeting a friend from the old neighborhood where we grew up. We're having lunch and exploring downtown. They have done a lot with the downtown area. Main Street is closed off during the summer and becomes a playground for old and young. @cruising sister Thank you for the good report on baby Murphy. Continued forward progress is the best we can hope for. @kazu Sounds like good news for Ivan and for you. Happy Birthday to Fr. David. Today's dish is one that we had often when I was growing up. Nanny Huener used to make it when I was very little and then I remember my grandmother making it and my mom made it often during the summer. She didn't include the dill, just cucumbers, sour cream, a touch of vinegar, salt, and pepper. She used to use the seedless cucumbers and would soak them in salt water for a while. Here's our first recipe: https://feelgoodfoodie.net/recipe/creamy-cucumber-salad/ This one uses some mayonnaise in the dressing. Mom never used that. And she never put sugar in it. https://www.spendwithpennies.com/creamy-cucumber-salad/ This one is similar to the two above, just slight variations in the amounts of things. https://numstheword.com/creamy-cucumber-salad/ Cucumbers are so refreshing on a hot day. You can make an infused water with cucumber, mint, and lime. Crush some mint leaves and put in the pitcher. Cut up one lime and put it in the pitcher and cucumber slices from about half the cucumber. Fill with water and chill. That really quenches the thirst. Wishing you all a wonderful day.
  10. Good morning, everyone! It is supposed to be a hot day today with temperatures up to 87F. We left the windows open last night and the house is very cool this morning. I closed the windows this morning and we'll see how long the house stays cool. Nothing on the agenda for today except to pack a little more. It is hard because we will need summer clothes as well as warmer clothing for Greenland and Iceland. And, I suspect, Newfoundland and Labrador. An interesting twist to our Greenland/Iceland cruise: Those with excursions in Red Bay were informed that we would not be stopping there and had their excursions refunded. It seems the whole city council resigned in a dispute with a tour operator. Now, those same people are finding those excursions in their cart on the HAL site and being asked to rebook them. We really don't know what is going on. I guess we'll find out when we get there. @cruising sister Thank you for the update on baby Murphy. Continued prayers for her healing and progress. I think the wellness spa is an excellent idea! @kazu I hope there is good news on Ivan. Today's meal sounds fun! While these are vegan recipes, they can easily be adapted to individual tastes. Use ground beef if you prefer! Look for the low carb tortillas. Make it yours. Here's our first recipe: https://pinchofyum.com/vegan-crunchwrap This next one is a copycat from Taco Bell, but vegan. It looks like a lot of work, but I'm sure the result is worth it. https://rainbowplantlife.com/the-best-vegan-crunchwrap-supreme/ This next one is also patterned after the Taco Bell offering, but promises to be much less greasy. https://www.kathysvegankitchen.com/cruchwrap-supreme/ I love crunch and may have to try this out. I hope there is something that appeals to all. Wishing you all a wonderful day!
  11. Check the quote above yours.
  12. I wouldn't think it would be a problem. 3416 is an inside and below the dining room. The carpet muffles sound from the dining room. You would want to check and see what is above your cabin.
  13. Good morning, everyone! We are having a chilly start to the day here in mid-Michigan, but it promises to be nice and sunny today. It rained all day yesterday, so we had movie day. We watched a couple documentaries and then finished with 80 for Brady. Lighthearted comedy was a good prescription. Not much on the agenda for today. I'm hoping to get back out and do some weeding in the flower beds. That is a constant chore. Yesterday's rain should make it easy to get the weeds out. The stuffed butternut squash looks and sounds wonderful. I love butternut squash. But, oh, my! The carbs are quite high in this dish, so I can only have a taste. One of the recipes is either a vegetarian entree or a side dish. The others could be main dishes. We'll start with this one: https://www.wellplated.com/stuffed-butternut-squash/ That looks so good, but a serving packs 79 grams of carbs, almost my daily limit. This next one has only 51 grams of carbs per serving, still too high, but better than the first. The addition of the chicken sausage makes it worthy of main dish status. https://www.skinnytaste.com/stuffed-butternut-squash/ This last recipe has about the same amount of carbohydrate, but includes bacon. That alone makes it a winner! https://juliasalbum.com/stuffed-butternut-squash-with-spinach-bacon-and-cheese/ Mmmm good. Hoping for good news about baby Murphy and wishing you all a wonderful day.
  14. I think Sue is almost all packed. I've got two sweatshirts and a pair of jeans in my suitcase. Thanks for the feedback! I saved the recipe for another time and may utilize some of your substitutions.
  15. Good morning, everyone! It is a cool, rainy day here in mid-Michigan. The projected high is 70 with rain off and on all day. Sue is rejoicing as that means she doesn't have to water the flowers. The rain means no walk this morning. I'll have to do my inside routine. I did put a load of clothes in the wash, so we're doing inside tasks today. I'll take the blueberries and skip the body painting and motorcycles. @cruising sister thank you for the update on baby Murphy. I'm glad she seems to be doing better and hope that the rest the ECMO provides can spur her along further. @Denise T I'm sorry to hear that your BG has been so difficult to control since Covid. Back to the basics is a good idea and one that I try to do regularly. @marshhawk Annie, I sure hope the PT can help with the pain. Any news on the lung scan? @kazu I'm happy to hear that Ivan got up on the couch on his own. That is a great indicator of feeling better. @smitty34877 Still jumping up and down clapping over the pathology report. @bennybear I'm doing the same for you! Today's meal is one I'll skip because of the carbs. Somehow, I don't think zoodles would do it justice. But, it does look tasty. We'll start with this one from Ahead of Thyme. https://www.aheadofthyme.com/10-minute-chicken-pad-thai/ Most of the recipes I found referred back to the above one. So, it is worth checking it out. This next recipe has a different work around if you can't find the Tamarind paste. It is full of vegetables and if you can tolerate the carbs, sounds healthy and tasty. https://whatmollymade.com/chicken-pad-thai/ This next one uses the actual Tamarind paste and says it can be bought online or found at an Asian grocery. I used this one specifically for my carrot loving friends. It does have more color and veggies than the others. https://omnivorescookbook.com/chicken-pad-thai/ I hope everyone has a wonderful day. @StLouisCruisers Three weeks from today! @Crazy For Cats Two weeks from today!
  16. I'm so sorry, Carol. Hugs to you and thankfulness that she passed peacefully. We are going a week earlier and will already be on board. I don't know if we're going to get off and explore Boston that day or just enjoy an empty ship. I suspect the latter. We have Anytime Dining, so we can adjust to what we want to do that day. We can easily meet up in the Ocean Bar. I'll shoot you an email in the next few days.
  17. Wonderful, wonderful! Can I come, too? Oh, my word. Apparently, they caught it right away. Murphy must truly be a fighter. @kazu I sympathize with the cost of drugs for Ivan, but if he is in perfect health otherwise, it is probably worth it. Let's hope it is effective and Ivan can return to a more comfortable life. We went back over to Dow Gardens this morning for our walk. The weather was delightfully refreshing and we spent quite a bit of time there. There is always something new to see. And, the Alden B. Dow home and studio.
  18. Good morning, everyone! We have a cool start to a beautiful day here in mid-Michigan. We bought paint yesterday to finish the trim around the roof of the house and will do what we can before we bring in reinforcements to climb the ladder and do the peak. Healing thoughts go out to @cruising sister baby Murphy. May her complications resolve and she progress quickly. Prayers for @mamaofami's friend Judi. May her passing be peaceful. Also hoping that @kazu's Ivan perks up. I hope the vet has some answers for you, Jacqui! @StLouisCruisers Sandi, I can't believe our cruise is so close! We have to plan a get together! I'll take the chocolate, please. Forgiveness is always important, more so for the person who is doing the forgiveness. I used to take walks with my dad. Once, we were in the UP for a wedding and had some extra time, so decided to hike into a waterfall. Well, it was black fly season and the hike ended with me running back to the car and my dad beating my back with his jacket to get all the flies off me. We had some adventures. Today's meal is one I might like if it were made for me. It sounds like something that would be in Rudi's Sel de Mer. https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/black-bass-with-coconut-herb-salad That is really the only recipe I found that fits the description. This next one comes close, though. https://practicewithdanielle.com/tamarind-branzino-with-coconut-and-herbs/ I'd go with the first one myself. Wishing you all a wonderful day.
  19. Good morning, everyone! @cruising sister I'll be sending positive thoughts towards baby Murphy today. Hoping surgery goes well. I felt your pain about the loneliness of the holiday. Singles, for whatever reason, are often on their own for holidays. For years I never celebrated holidays like the 4th. It was just another day to me. Then, I decided to host a celebration for those who were in the same situation. That turned out well and became kind of a tradition until Covid hit. Big celebrations I always traveled to Michigan where my family was. It was really hard after my dad died as there was no where to go. I decided that I had to create my own type of celebration. Now that Sue and I have our own home in Michigan, we devise our own celebrations. For the 4th we invited siblings in town to join us for a cook out. To our surprise, they accepted the invitation. I also invited the man across the street who is single. He was celebrating by doing yard work. I try to include singles who may be on their own when I can. @smitty34877 That is wonderful that Lou is home. Recovery is always faster at home. Less chance of picking up an infection as well. @Vict0riann Sorry to hear that the PT initially caused more problems. As Terry said, give it time. PT can work miracles. Kissing Day and Fried Chicken Day sound good to me! I have an umbrella with a cover that I bought in Quebec. Sue and I walked from the ship up to the old section in search of onion soup and crepes. We found a delightful restaurant mostly frequented by locals and had the best crepes ever. The onion soup was pretty good as well. When we left the restaurant, the skies opened up and we were hit by a deluge. We managed to get to a pharmacy that sold umbrellas and picked out our Canadian umbrellas - favorites of ours ever since. Today is a dreary day that promises lower temperatures, but high humidity and rain. We've nixed the outdoor walk figuring that as soon as we get away from the house it will start to rain. Today's meal sounds yummy, but it is not for those who are counting calories. I'd leave out the pasta (carbs) and probably cut down the amount of heavy cream. You don't want to substitute a lighter version of cream as it can curdle and then looks terrible. https://www.aheadofthyme.com/creamy-shrimp-pasta-with-sun-dried-tomatoes/ This one is similar with slightly different seasoning. You can choose what you want to put it over - mashed potatoes, rice, noodles, riced cauliflower. https://www.saltandlavender.com/creamy-garlic-shrimp-with-sun-dried-tomatoes-and-basil/ This last recipe uses some crushed red pepper flakes to spice things up a bit. It also uses half and half instead of heavy cream. Hmmm https://juliasalbum.com/garlic-shrimp-and-sun-dried-tomatoes-with-pasta-in-spicy-creamy-sauce/ I hope you can find a recipe you like here. Tweak it here and there and make it your own! I hope @marshhawk gets good news today and that Chuck has a defined treatment plan. Hope to hear from you! Wishing everyone a great day today!
  20. Good morning, everyone! It is going to be another hot one here in mid-Michigan. After today it is supposed to cool off a bit and we can go back to open windows and fresh air. It actually wasn't too bad yesterday as the humidity was pretty low. @summer slope I am so sorry to hear Bailey will cross the rainbow bridge this morning. Hugs to you. @smitty34877 I sure hope Lou can come home today. You recover best at home. It is way too hot for chili right now. That will have to wait until late September or October to make it on the meal rotation. And, when it does, it will have ground beef in it. However, not everyone has my tastes and desires, so if someone has a hankering for vegan chili, here it is. https://frommybowl.com/easy-vegan-chili/ This one has some interesting ideas on how to boost flavor. You can use those ideas with regular meaty chili as well. https://rainbowplantlife.com/vegan-chili/ This one adds a little cocoa powder. That sounds pretty interesting to me! https://www.noracooks.com/ultimate-vegan-chili/ I hope everyone finds one to file away for next fall. We are getting into cruise anticipation mode here. Only 16 days till we fly out to Boston to pick up the Zaandam. Time to get the suitcases out. Wishing you all a wonderful day!
  21. Good evening, everyone! Thank you to all who posted parade pictures and food porn of today's feast. I invited our neighbor across the street to join us for dinner and then we introduced him to Farkle. He's a single guy and is living in his parents' home. He's been here since 1972, so he knows the history of the neighborhood. Our brats and burgers turned out very well as did the blue cheese coleslaw. We had strawberry blueberry shortcake for dessert, so red, blue and white in the whipped cream.
  22. Good morning, everyone and Happy Fourth of July! @smitty34877 I am really happy to hear that Lou was much improved. I'm sure Lou is the happiest about that turn of events. @cruising sister My condolences on the passing of your aunt. I am thankful it was reported to be a peaceful passing. Hard decisions to make about your surviving aunt. It is supposed to be a hot one here in mid-Michigan today. I am so glad we got that air conditioner working. We would be able to fry an egg on the sidewalk if we had a sidewalk. I think we are the only city street in Midland without a sidewalk. DS Mary Jo and her DH along with DB Jeff are coming over today for burgers and brats. We'll fire up the grill this afternoon and have a feast. At least the grill won't heat up the house! Today's meal sounds very refreshing on a hot summer day. It does require a ton of chopping, though. It would be very tempting to buy salad in a bag at the grocery store. The recipe is buy a bag of salad, put it in a bowl, add dressing, and enjoy! Now, if you insist on doing your own chopping, here is a recipe for you. https://natashaskitchen.com/asian-chopped-salad/ Next up we have a recipe that will certainly satisfy that need for crunchiness. It promises to be better than what you can buy in a bag. https://www.spendwithpennies.com/asian-chopped-salad/ This next one uses a miso dressing and looks delicious! https://cookingwithayeh.com/chopped-asian-salad/ Wishing everyone a happy 4th and a wonderful day!
  23. That's why we're here, Jacqui. Talk about Ivan all you want. I used chicken and rice broth with my sister's dog when I was babysitting once. He must have gotten into something because he was vomiting all over. He was really dehydrated as well. I fed him ice cubes as he normally would come running when he heard the freezer opening. He was too sick to do that, so I took the ice cubes to him.
