  1. This is one where a tour is recommended. Ephesus is over an hour from the port. Rick Steves even advises a tour, but does describe a three step process involving a taxi to the bus station, then a bus towards Kusadasi but getting off before the town and walking up hill for 15 minutes. He does not discuss getting back. We used Ephesus shuttle. We were very busy even with the tour and did not even have a stop for lunch. We did have a short port day, however.

  2. You are in for a wonderful time. We were on the NCL Spirit in August. I developed a spreadsheet and table for our tours. I can sent it you if you email me miloliihalehonu@yahoo.com. All ports may not be the same, but will give you a few ideas. As other suggest join or start your roll call and check the port of call boards. I also read the roll calls of people on the same cruise at another time before or after me. There were also a few on our cruise who had been on a similar cruise and had first hand knowledge of tour operators. Another reason to join or start your roll call.

Thank you! I just read your post today, so I set it to record on Wed. night.

We just received our tickets to the Ceremony of the Keys today!😊

The Ceremony of the Keys is so cool. Our experience included rain. Somehow that added to the mystique.

I actually fell asleep durning the show! Too much shopping on Sunday.

Rowsby, glad you liked it. I watched the Hampton Court Special as well. I agree, very well done.

All of you that are going to London, you are in for a real treat.

  4. Hi Brenda, Just read your post. What cruise are you on? We are interested in a tour from Livorno to Cinqueterre also. I see your post was in March and you may have already gone. We don't leave until June 2014. Let us know because we definitely want to do this.

Hi Sam, you may want to post your question on your roll call. We toured the Cinque Terra with Papillon Service Tours as we wanted to visit both the Cinque Terra and Pisa. Wonderful day. I posted a review on trip advisor and the port of call reviews here on CC.

  5. Hi there Italian law and a great deal of the rest of Europe provide that all guides inside historic sites must be licensed. Drivers and even tour guides with large land tour companies are not allowed inside sites with their guests.

  6. Rowsby are you interested in renting a flat? We rented one this August, right next door to the Park Plaza Riverbank. Two bedrooms and a kitchen. Lots of closet space. We chose this as we were staying a week. I just could not bring myself to pay for the expensive hotels, but wanted to be close to the sites. Loved every minute of this wonderful city. Probably the best in the world( next to my beloved San Francisco, of course).

We have also stayed at the Park Plaza Westminster.

Lovely hotel, but everything was expensive.

At the time this flat was £109 per night.

  7. We used RIL on our cruise on the NCL Sprit in August/Sept. Here is my review

Rome: Romeinlimos Ultimate tour of Rome. Our guide for today was Sergio. We went straight to Rome after disembarking the ship early again. If you have the opportunity to do this, take advantage of it for Athens and Rome. Both drivers in these ports were pleased we were some of the very first off the ship.

Rome included the Coliseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Panthenon and the Vatican. We did not visit the Vatican as we had been there before. Instead we went back to the Forum. We enjoyed a relaxing afternoon exploring more of the Forum. Sergio then took us to a grocery store and a quick stop for gelato. The gelato was very good. He also stopped at an ATM to let us get some Euros as we were runninb low by now! Our ticket for the Coliseum allowed us entrance to the Forum. Ah Roma!

It was v ery nice to be able to customize our day. We would book with them again.

  8. The ship doesn't charge per se for your mobile phone access. NCL does utilize a Satellite network you can connect to, and receives monies from the provider when you use it. Your carrier in most cases (depending on your plan with them) will charge you a higher tariff (to pay the Satellite provider) for the time you accessed the ships satellite network.

    thank you!

  9. I took my cell phone and the only call I made was in Barcelona and I did not have any issues - it was not my intention for calls but for text messages

I purchased an unlimited package from my cell provider which did all the zones we were travelling except Turkey for that I had to purchase another zone package - it worked great - only a few times during sailing did we lose satellite service but not enough for any inconvenience

The internet on the ship was very good

Hope this helps - I did not buy any additional sim cards

Did you text while at sea?

If so, did the ship charge you for that?

    Thanks
