  1. I took the above cruise this year. It’s not as nice as the other fjords, but interesting at the end of the fjord.   It was about four hours, even though it was advertised as 3.5.  We departed at 1400 and retuned closer to 1800.  But if the ship sells this as an excursion, then you should have time.

Where does your ship  dock?  My guess is the Prima would dock in the area near the fish markets as she is large.   Our cruise left from the Bryggen area across from the Radisson Hotel.  This is about a 10 minute walk.   I do think the website indicated the ferry dock near the fish markets, but that didn’t happen.  You would have some time to explore the town, but probably not the funicular.  Take some snacks, onboard offerings very slim; ice cream shop next to-the Radisson sells snacks.

You do visit Olden which is beautiful.

  2. Thank you, @cr8tiv1

    This is great information.

The information about tenders is very helpful. Some of my questions are not only useful for us, but will benefit others on the roll call, such as “will the tenders run all night while we are anchored at Alta?”  So good to know I can ask soon after boarding.

Thanks for the number and the tip about Sabatini’s.

I boarded the Caribbean Princess for a July/August cruise.  Sylviya was the Event's Officer (aka concierge contact).  She and I had contact almost daily for this or that.  She does not have a public office space and you will need to contact her via the Customer Service Desk.  I really didn't have anything that I needed her to do for me.  We talked about my next cruise Meet and Greet (she said she will still be onboard...we'll see).  We talked about my refrigerator that never cooled.  We met in the hallway and at Sabatini's.  She tracked me down when I was in isolation for covid.  If there was anything that you specifically needed help with, she was your go to person.

Hi!  Thanks for this post; and @Colorado Coasty for the topic.  Do you  have any recent experiences?  We are on the Caribbean Princess later this month and have a few questions and probably a request or 2.

    TIA.

  4. One of the differences as compared to an US embarkation, especially at Southampton, is there are a large number passengers who can’t receive their medallions by mail. Our medallions have arrived at 10 and 14 days pre cruise for our last two cruises, both embarking in Europe.

  5. Hello, arriving 27/09 at 1200.  Want to visit the Nidaros Cathedral.   Due to the ship’s arrival time, we would need to go  immediately to the cathedral, so a taxi is the choice.  I’ve downloaded  the app and registered with Trondertaxi.  The app doesn’t seem to recognize the Nidaros Catheral or the  cruise port.  Am I using the wrong words?  Any advice?  Other options?

    Thank you.

I found Geiranger Skywalk - Dalsnibba from facebook that they only opened from June 14th but closed again on July 4th and 5th.

We visited on May 28, 2024.  It was open.  Roads and views were clear. This was  mid afternoon.  Some fog on drive up and back down.   Snow on ground.  Also visited the museum. We didn’t get off at Hellesylt(ships excursions only that meet the ship at Geiranger) as we did think there was a possibility the road might not be closed, and wanted to watch the sail in from an upper deck.

Pre cruise we took the Norway in a Nutshell (Oslo to Bergen) May 19.  Snow on the ground and wind blowing snow (from the ground) on the way up to Myrdal. Boarded the Flam railroad there.  View cleared as we headed down. Add this to your trip if you can.

Oslo was hot!  Arrived on the 17th of May, their national holiday. Now that was something to see. LOL.

Doesn’t mean it will be clear and beautiful weather when you go, though.

I think that’s very risky. Alta is a small town and I don’t remember any tours being sold at the quayside. We took the view that we were only likely to be there once, and it was worth paying for the tour to maximise our chances of seeing the lights.

Having said that, we have since seen the lights from the ship in Greenland, so as I said earlier, there is an element of luck!

Yes, Ty. These are folks who cant find a tour. I think they may have booked last minute.  We have two ship tours, (one each night)but are looking at other options. I think it’s risky as it’s a small town and you also need some kind of status or a ship’s  tour to get on one of the first tenders. So if even if there is a vendor, they will fill up fast.

Yes, luck involved, glad you got to see them. Ty for the advise.

We booked it through the ship, although the tour provider was this company based in Alta  - https://www.glodexplorer.no/activities/. They came on to the ship during the afternoon to give a briefing on what to expect, forecast etc. I cannot remember exactly where they took us but probably no more than 20-30 minutes from the ship.

Obviously there is a lot of luck involved. We know people who went on the same tour a week or two later, but saw nothing.

Ty.  Some in our group is asking if they can book a NL tour once they get off with vendors at the dock?  I think this is  risky as it’s a tender port and a small town.

  9. I got information a few days go(from my CVP) that experiential dinning will have a 50% charge if not cancelled  24 hours prior to reservation time. Not sure if this includes the UBD but seems like it could.  Best to ask.

Also a “no show” at a SD restaurant will have a $10 per person fee.

    Both effective August 31, 2024.

Hopefully no increase if you have already purchased the Plus Package.

All I know is the CA.  Doesn’t appear to involve a package.
But, I think the following are all independent of any package. Also effective 08/31.

$10.00 per person “no show” fee for SD

50% cancellation fee for experiential dinning at 24 hours.
    $45.00 for SD.
