  1. We had just gotten back onboard this afternoon when the wind snapped the mooring lines. I felt a bit off balance, saying we’re moving. We then heard a large bang. We are also in an aft suite and went out in the balcony to see two of the stern lines lying in the water. A few minutes later, a second bang. The bridge turned on the engines and a tug appeared quickly. It looked like most of the lines snapped. Everything appears to be fine now, with the captain assuring us that no one was injured and that we have additional mooring lines. We haven’t departed for Lofoten yet, again due to the storm.
  2. I am also onboard. I will try and answer some questions. There was a significant display of lights on Thursday night from the ship at sea. This went on for about three hours. Many people got beautiful pictures. I had asked at the M&G if we could be notified if the Northern Lights were spotted from the bridge. The captain agreed to do that in the public areas. There was a comedian in one of the venues who was telling a story about his mother’s toaster, The bridge interrupted with the announcement and even one got up to leave. The comedian responded, “don’t you want to hear about my mother’s toaster?” We did not go to Alta due to a storm. We docked at Tromso on Sunday and have been here since. This did give us two nights to go out on hunts, without any concern about getting back before sailing. We went out both nights (private excursions, returning about 2am and 1am ) and we saw lights each time even though it was cloudy and raining at times in Tromso. We’ve also seen some snow and tiny drops of hail.
  3. @HaakonKL welcome to Cruise Critic! Ty.
  4. There are 5 terminals at LHR. Which is your terminal? It should be in you documents from Princess. For the most part: AA and DL use T3; UA T2 and BA T5(long hall international flights)
  5. I have a January 2025 cruise. In July, I looked at adding that cruise right after my September 2024 perk was approved. I can’t see it now, but I think it did say to check back in November as the perk was only available on sailings until December 31, 2024 as @cruising.mark.ukstates.
  6. I know this topic has been discussed many times for the US ports, but I’m wondering about the practice at Southampton, UK. I also posted on the port of call forum. We want to bring canned soda onboard. Do I give it to the port baggage workers or take it onboard myself? ty
  7. Thanks @ontheweb I thought about that. Probably both places would be good.
  8. Hello, we are planning to bring some soda onboard. Do I give it to the port baggage workers or take it onboard ourselves? I know in other ports, the advice is to put a luggage tag on it and give it to the port baggage workers. Ty
  9. Sorry, my bad, you are on is a Princess ship, but it is still large. We were on the Sky in late May and used the dock by the fish market. We also visited pre cruise. Over two days the ships we saw dock closer to the Bryggen area were much smaller.
  10. I took the above cruise this year. It’s not as nice as the other fjords, but interesting at the end of the fjord. It was about four hours, even though it was advertised as 3.5. We departed at 1400 and retuned closer to 1800. But if the ship sells this as an excursion, then you should have time. Where does your ship dock? My guess is the Prima would dock in the area near the fish markets as she is large. Our cruise left from the Bryggen area across from the Radisson Hotel. This is about a 10 minute walk. I do think the website indicated the ferry dock near the fish markets, but that didn’t happen. You would have some time to explore the town, but probably not the funicular. Take some snacks, onboard offerings very slim; ice cream shop next to-the Radisson sells snacks. You do visit Olden which is beautiful.
  11. Bergen is beautiful. Many options for things to do. I’d go with Bergen.
  12. Thank you, @cr8tiv1 This is great information. The information about tenders is very helpful. Some of my questions are not only useful for us, but will benefit others on the roll call, such as “will the tenders run all night while we are anchored at Alta?” So good to know I can ask soon after boarding. Thanks for the number and the tip about Sabatini’s.
  13. Thanks @walkingsoon. I appreciate this as well. We are booked on the Sapphire in January.
  14. Hi! Thanks for this post; and @Colorado Coasty for the topic. Do you have any recent experiences? We are on the Caribbean Princess later this month and have a few questions and probably a request or 2. TIA.
  15. One of the differences as compared to an US embarkation, especially at Southampton, is there are a large number passengers who can’t receive their medallions by mail. Our medallions have arrived at 10 and 14 days pre cruise for our last two cruises, both embarking in Europe.
  16. Thank you @TheOldBear and @hallasm success, cab booked. We do plan to visit the museum. Will pet the wolfe statue, ty for that tip.
  17. Hello, arriving 27/09 at 1200. Want to visit the Nidaros Cathedral. Due to the ship’s arrival time, we would need to go immediately to the cathedral, so a taxi is the choice. I’ve downloaded the app and registered with Trondertaxi. The app doesn’t seem to recognize the Nidaros Catheral or the cruise port. Am I using the wrong words? Any advice? Other options? Thank you.
  18. We visited on May 28, 2024. It was open. Roads and views were clear. This was mid afternoon. Some fog on drive up and back down. Snow on ground. Also visited the museum. We didn’t get off at Hellesylt(ships excursions only that meet the ship at Geiranger) as we did think there was a possibility the road might not be closed, and wanted to watch the sail in from an upper deck. Pre cruise we took the Norway in a Nutshell (Oslo to Bergen) May 19. Snow on the ground and wind blowing snow (from the ground) on the way up to Myrdal. Boarded the Flam railroad there. View cleared as we headed down. Add this to your trip if you can. Oslo was hot! Arrived on the 17th of May, their national holiday. Now that was something to see. LOL. Doesn’t mean it will be clear and beautiful weather when you go, though.
