  1. Thanks to that mega hint, I’ve just identified it. Can I say?
  2. And where better to be to do this that on a Cunard ship?
  3. Yes, you are right, the town centre is empty of shops. All the ones you might have heard of have probably closed down. Castlepoint, the out of town shopping centre, near the Cooper Dean Roundabout, does have lots of shops, but I have never found it very welcoming. Certainly a better bet than the town centre though.
  4. In Europe, a lot of the aversion to tourists seems to be against people who stay in accommodation, which is then not available to the local housing market, rather than against cruise passengers, who merely clutter up the place for several hours a day.
  5. It’s not very nice, but nor is anything else much about Castlepoint. Only good thing is it does have shops still, unlike the town centre.
  6. In a different sense, it certainly matters to me where my clothes come from, what with not wishing to buy from exploitative regimes or stuff that’s too environmentally unsound. It is very difficult, certainly far too difficult to worry what others are wearing.
  7. I apologise in advance because I am so fatuous, but you can imagine the picture summoned up by ‘only shirts and ties…’ Actually, some passengers might moan about having to wear a tie even then, because of the extra luggage space.
  8. That’s much much better than mine. Many thanks.
  9. Obviously, being from Southern England, I know nothing about local conditions, but can you self disembark, as that will clearly make a difference?
  10. Mind you on our Canary Islands cruise the water in that pool was very shallow, as I remember.
  11. I can’t remember, but this photo looks as if there may be steps?
  12. And I’m afraid that makes it a peak weekend for strikes (not necessarily in the UK), ATC glitches, and general chaos.
  13. I thought you might mean abuse of staff.
  14. Will your insurance cover the antiviral? Glad you are not feeling too wretched. I think I would want my table mates to know.
  15. Sympathies. Rotten for you. How do you feel? What restrictions are you and your cabin companion, if any, subject to?
  16. I’m sure you had an amiable chat with Ilven about the difference between caramel and brûlée.
  17. Though you would think they would know the difference. Even I know the difference, and I don’t eat either, because I don’t eat eggs. It does often seem to be the case, looking at the revues, which I only do when I want a laugh, that quite minor problems are the fulcrum that turns the entire voyage into a nightmare experience. Often this is to do with embarkation, which is not always something Cunard even have control over, and that colours the entire voyage.
  18. And I’m sure you looked absolutely the part. 😀
  19. Looking at that list, I’m amazed there isn’t someone who has taken a picture of Algeciras from Gibraltar.
  20. Yes, I can see the benefits. But I would absolutely hate people to be able to find me. I might be having a triple ice cream cone in the Gelateria when I had said I was going to the Wellness Café for some muesli. Actually I’ve never set foot in either, but you get the idea. 😀
