  2. I just got off the Oasis. On past cruises I remembered was a 10% off liquor purchase on certain days. The 2nd day of the cruise I went into the Duty Free shop and asked about it. I was told it had been going on for the last 2 days and was ending at 11pm that day. I didn't see any advertisement for it, but maybe I missed it somewhere? Do they always have a 10% off Duty Free liquor on the ships? Does the days change from sailing to sailing? Is it normally advertised?

  3. I was just getting off the Oasis last Sunday and thought I allocated enough time to make it through Customs but missed the SpaceX launch by about 5-10 minutes. So close... Was anyone else on the Oasis and see the launch? I was wondering exactly where it launched from? We had an outside balcony and could see a bunch of NASA building out in the distance, but couldn't tell what was the SpaceX rocket. Attached it a picture I took from out balcony the week before the launch. Anyone know where SpaceX is located in this picture?

  4. Can you use your OBC in the Casino & how does it work? For example can you load $50 into a slot machine, play for awhile, then take back $40 in cash, or has cash been eliminated from the Casino? I haven't cruised for 3 or 4 years and I'm sure things may have changed. I know a lot of OBC is now "use it or lose it". Thanks for any information you can provide. I'll be sailing on the Oasis in a few weeks.

  5. Skipping soda altogether may save money, and probably be better for the health.

I know most people don't want to be reminded of this about this, but here are the facts about drinking soda. I would drop the "probably be" from the above.

    How Soda Affects Your Body

Did you know that just one can of Coke contains 10 teaspoons of sugar?!

This is 100 percent of your recommended daily intake (which is more than double my recommended daily allowance to begin with). Within 20 minutes of drinking that soda, your blood sugar spikes, and your liver responds to the resulting insulin burst by turning massive amounts of sugar into fat.

Within 40 minutes, your blood pressure rises due to your body having absorbed all the caffeine, and then your liver dumps even more sugar into your bloodstream.

After about one hour, you’ll start to have a sugar crash, which oftentimes leads you into a vicious cycle of consuming more sugar - and caffeine-laden stimulants, followed by crashes, throughout your day.

It is a proven fact that sugar increases your insulin levels, which can lead to not only weight gain, but also high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, premature aging and many more negative side effects.

In fact, sugar is so bad for your health in so many ways, I’ve created an entire list outlining the ways sugar can damage your health.

  6. Has anyone used a Fitbit One on a 7 day cruise without the internet pack? I know it connects to your phone via Bluetooth, but I think the phone needs to connect to the Fitbit server to upload your data. Will the 7 days of data be upload when you get back at the end of cruise? Thanks for any experience you have. I do want to track how much I actually walked on my upcoming 7 day Oasis cruise.

  7. I read a lot of post on people justifying buying a drink package by comparing it to "x" number of $12 drinks to break even. It wasn't that long ago when drink on Royal ships were around $8 and the break even point for the number of drinks was much higher. I'm sure Royal's plan to raise base drink prices and push selling more drink packages has been very successful & profitable for them. I'm not complaining, just making an observation. The way I see it, the more profit they make on selling drink packages the lower they can keep the the base price of cruising.

  8. I know you would love to personally give something to someone you meet on your trip, but if you want to make a difference consider donating money to one of the charitable organizations that are organizing relief efforts. There are many good ones, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Doctors without Borders.

I would also suggest doing research before donating to any organization. I don't know if this article is still valid, but it questions what Red Cross advertises as the percentage of what gets donated actually goes to help people.

  9. Lol..you could be right Paul, but holy cow. Capitalization on some words (yelling at me) ....going on the internet to prove me wrong. Why? (all he did is prove me right). ...and then telling me I phrased it wrong  (seems like incorrect phrasing is his pet peeve)and then giving another example of what "gets his goat". I just hope he is okay now.;)

Sorry but it all goes back to studying Engineering and Math in college and a Logic class I took many years ago. My logic is solid. ;)
