  1. So it sounds like alcohol COULD be served on Navigator this week but it would have to be from a local distributor (since it's home-ported in Galveston now, wouldn't the ships liquor stores be from local TX distributors anyway?) and pricing would have to be adjusted to include a state sales tax (or RCI could opt to just eat the tax and not pass it on to the pax). I am familiar with those dry counties up North - we have relatives in the DFW area - and yes, we've often had to buy those "memberships" in bars or dance halls in order to drink. Weird but it's their state and can legislate however they want I guess. ;)

RCCL sell lot of drinks on the ship before it leaves the Galveston port each week. Are you saying they normally have to keep track of how many drinks they sell while docks in Galveston and pay the Texas tax man?

  2. Like and agree.

Put this with the increase in 8x10 photos from $19.95 to $20.95 on our recent Brilliance sailing, plus the increase from $0.65 per minute to $0.85 per minute for Internet access, and the raising of speciality restaurant charges (reportedly Chops Grille up from $30 to $35, & Giovanni's table from $20 to $25), all these are making us reconsider RCI as our preferred cruise line as these are things (including JR's) that we enjoy on a cruise.

No doubt I reckon there are more increases that I am not aware of due to our choices onboard.

These increase are not so bad if you're a party of 2. But if you travel with a family of 6 or more, these increases add up to real money quickly.

  3. When I read the title " Cost of a Carton of Cigarette", this is what came to my mind... My bad.

Every cigarette a man smokes reduces his life by 11 minutes. Each carton of cigarettes thus represents a day and a half of lost life. Every year a man smokes a pack a day, he shortens his life by almost 2 months.

  4. I'm going to bring a suitcase out tonight and start putting in all the stuff I don't need in Michigan now... Suntan lotion, flip flops, shorts. sunglasses. Also put in phone charges, binoculars, shaving kit, socks, underwear, etc. I'll added the things that will wrinkles just before we leave. :D

  5. I am seeing mixed reviews on this ship on awful food, bad service, bad shows. But others enjoyed it. I am taking my father for his 80th bday and he won't go more than 4 nights. Also going with mys sister & her husband that have never been on a cruise. I like the iterary, key west, coco Kay, Nassau. So we will only be on the ship in the evenings. Looking for opinions. Would like to hear from someone that has recently been on it.

I sailed on her last Fall. Being an old ship design I found it difficult to navigate around the ship. You really can't get too many places on the ship without doing a lot of stairs, or taking a lot of elevator rides. So if your father has difficulty with walking or doing stairs, you may be better off doing a newer ship.

  6. I don't know what the current cost for an hour is.A number of years ago it was around $60/hr?. You should watch the Cruise Compass. They normally have a longest drive contest that you can enter for free. If you do rent it, I would recommend not putting out. It takes up too much time, especially if you have 3-4 people playing.

  7. I know that RCL lets us bring on 2 bottles of wine per cabin at the start of the cruise.

On the second leg of a back to back can we bring on another 2 bottles. For payment the cruise if considered 2 individual cruises with 2 reference numbers.

Can we buy wine onboard the first week have it delivered to the cabin at the end of the first cruise and use this as our 2 bottles for week 2?

First b2b for us , any other info we need to know?

    Thanks Karen

You can also buy 2 bottle in one of your ports and they will also deliver it to you on your last night of the first cruise.

  8. again poor reading comprehension. no one said anything about smoking in a room.

    whatifitis is spreading fast.

No issue with reading comprehension, just making a point using simple logic:

Smoking in your room is against ship policy and smoking on your balcony is against ship policy.

    - You're saying if the staff doesn't catch you smoking on your balcony, then it's OK to do it. That implies if the staff doesn't catch you smoking in your cabin, then it's OK to do it. There is no difference in smoking either place.
