  1. I will be on the breakaway . Does anyone know anything about the marketplace shopping near the port ? or of any shopping near port besides Ron Jon

Depends where the ship will dock. We were there on the Breakaway in December and they used the new dock and there were some shops and restaurants within walking distance. It's all at Cruise terminal one. I think we'll probably dock there again next week, since we're the only ship in port that day. We had lunch/drinks at a nice place called "Fish Lips" in December...we had to take a taxi there in the past when we docked a bit further away.

Let me pull up a couple of photos...

  3. I am leaving on Sunday on the breakaway.. I called the upsell number last week but there wasn't anything.. I called the regular number on Saturday and got an upgrade to a balcony for free.. I would love a spa room.. When is too late to late to call the upsell or regular number? I noticed as of this afternoon the cruise is no longer listed on ncl

    Thanks

Cruise is still listed on the website tonight.

Official upsell desk closes at 5PM EST on Friday I believe, but you can call the regular number Saturday night, or between 8-9AM on Sunday morning.

  4. Let's hear your favorite or must try drink (alcoholic) onboard Norwegian (Breakaway)?

Looking to try something new :)

"Grass Clippings".....have them make it with 1800 and double the simple syrup. Best drink I've had lately outside of my go to shot of chilled 1800.

  5. i also leaped on a chance to get an upsell but the amateur me did not know how to go about doing it...so here I am, a thousand dollars poorer booked on what appears to be a relatively tiny haven suite with no chance of getting a refund...i would have preferred a balcony or even a minisuite.

You will be very spoiled with that small Haven suite, and won't want to book any other type of cabin for the next cruise. The Haven perks will blow your mind from the moment you reach the Haven boarding lounge to check in at the cruise terminal, and your first lunch up in the Haven....:D:):o

  6. Is Jelly Rose still in the Haven on the Breakaway. I am sailing again August and hope she is there.

Jelly Rose left during our December cruise, I believe she left on the 16th of December and got to be home with her family for the first time......in a very long time. She was torn about coming back to the Breakaway where she felt "comfortable" or possibly going to another ship.

I'll report back if she by chance is back for our sailing on the 28th.....it would make me so happy to see her again in the Haven bar.

  7. Woot! I'm so excited right now. We're sailing on Breakaway in 2 weeks (and 2 days). We were already booked in a Haven Fwd PH. I looked online, and it appeared as thought the DOS and OS were sold out, but Haven 2BR suites were available. I called the upsell number this morning to see what we could do, and the woman I spoke to said she had a few options for me. After declining the first, she asked what I was really looking for, and I said the 2 BR Haven. So she gave me a price on that. I then asked if by chance there were any owner's suites available, and she said there was, and the price she quoted was only $50 more than for the 2BR. So I took the offer, got my confirmations, and went online to see my specific cabin. Imagine my surprise that we had a DOS!!!

This is a birthday cruise for DH, so I'm going to try and surprise him with the upgrade.

That's awesome.....it's my husbands Birthday on the cruise as well, we'll see you in the Haven :)

  8. I understand that the current NCL promo ends Sunday, does anyone know what the next NCL promo is?

What promotion do you see ending on Sunday?

  9. My family just did an upsell to a two bedroom family suite for our 10 day cruise on the gem next month.

We did the upsell primarily for the extra space.

So my question is, what are the complimentary perks of being in a suite? Ncl's website is very vague. We are in room 11506 if anyone has cabin feedback.

    Thanks :)

  11. The mind is always working....

Let's pretend that when it's closer to our actual Breakaway sailing time (April 3) something magnificent happens, and a Haven Courtyard Penthouse with Balcony becomes available for say...$500 a person. It's my fantasy. I'm just making believe.

I'm curious as to what other costs might I need to consider? For example, immediately I would think of extra tips for the butler and/or concierge. Along the same lines, how do you end up saving when you stay at this level? Example: free room service - never a charge.

Also, can one have visitors up to the Haven? Like to drink at the bar? Another couple might be on the cruise with us, but I'm guessing that they would NOT be allowed to partake in any of the perks - the restaurant, tenders, etc. Having never (ever) stayed above a "Balcony" category I have no idea how anything works up in that world. This trip we have a mini suite booked, so I feel like my little daydream isn't totally crazy. Maybe a little crazy, but not totally!!! A girl can dream, right?:o

Any thoughts on the $ situation? Thanks.

Friends would be able to visit you in your suite, but not allowed in the Haven pool/lounge/bar/restaurant areas.

You would have the extra tips for the Butler and Concierge to factor in.

Save money on specialty restaurants since you can eat dinner in the Haven restaurant with a smaller wonderful ambiance and wait staff.

No fee for room service since you Butler handles all those orders.

Suite comes with a bottle of sparkling wine, and a 45 minute VIP party with free drinks...so you could save on the bar tab a bit with that.

Suites come with a portable phone that can be carried around the ship to stay in contact with your suite, the butler, concierge or to call other cabins. So you can save that $7.95 iconcierge cost I guess.

I'm sure there are more money saving items that I'm not thinking about...hopefully others will chime in with those.

  12. We had a Haven penthouse on Deck 16 two years ago on BA. It was beyond wonderful!

This time we are sailing in a Forward Penthouse on deck 11. The Haven is the way to go on the BA.

We are also on the 2/28, save me a seat at the Haven Bar!! :):)

Welcome to the Bar...:o....Unfortunately some of our Haven bar staff has left on vacations recently. Jelly Rose in December, Ronoldo at the end of January and Carol and Wayne this week. But, as long as my 1800 tequila is chilling I'll survive :D

  13. sailing date 2/28/16....several left at $500 pp

the 2/28/16 Breakaway cruise will be our 7th time on the Breakaway and our 6th time in the Haven...........best money you will ever spend to make that cruise over the top. But, be warned it's extremely hard to go back to any other cabin type after the Haven experience. :o:o:o

That's a great price on the upsell, go quickly they won't last long.

You'll see Steve and I at the Haven bar all week......that's our home away from home.

  14. I just checked the website and the pick 2 promo is no longer offered. How were you able to keep both of your previous promos? We also have the UBP & SDP. And were you able to keep your same cabin when you rebooked?

    Thanks for the help!

    Happy Sailing!!

Pick 2 is still applicable for the mini suite cabins, booked 30 days in advance...with the exception of the Breakaway / Getaway and Escape which can be booked less than 30 days out.

  15. I'm intrigued! Does anyone know what's in a Grass Clippings?

    cucumber slices muddled/strained

cilantro leaf as garnish, with a bit of salt on top of the ice cubes

should be Patron silver tequila, but I had mine with 1800 tequila which is my favorite

    lime juice

    simple syrup

    cointreau

  16. As of Feb 1st there should be a new drink on the menu, I tasted it last week on the Breakaway while they were doing their training for the bar staff. Try a "Grass Clippings", I'm usually just a tequila shot drinker but found this one quite nice. Similar to to a margarita but cucumber seems to give it more of a unique taste. I did ask for a bit more simple syrup so it wasn't quite so sour.

  17. It looks like the steak and eggs hasn't changed since I tried the "suite life" years ago. Hockey puck sized "steaks" even though you're paying Haven prices.

Did you ever try the Fruits de Mer in Brioche?

Steak in the Haven restaurant on the Breakaway was amazing for breakfast last week, and the week before.

They have changed the breakfast and lunch menu on the Breakaway, they changed it on the 29th of January for the last couple days of our cruise....was supposed to roll out on 1/31.

I didn't try the new lunch menu, or even see it but I did take a few photos of the new breakfast menu

  18. We are taking our family on the Breakaway to Bermuda. Our children are in their 40's, grandchildren ages range from 3-20 years old. Will there be enough for all of them to do? Do they have activities planned for evenings for the older grandchildren?

We have heard that you can bring on wine when you board for the cruise (1 bottle per stateroom), but they charge you a fee of $30 even if you don't take the bottle to the dining room. Is this true?

No limit to the number of bottles you can bring on the ship, but you do pay the fee no matter where you consume the wine.

    Wine & Champagne Policy

Guests may bring bottles of wine and champagne on board. When bottles are brought on board and served or consumed in any restaurant, public room area or in their stateroom, a corkage fee will be charged according to bottle sizes noted below.

    750 ml Bottle: $15.00

    1,500 ml Magnum: $30.00
