  1. Sorry that it gave you a panic. The chat rep should have explained the mock booking hold. I had to have that done when the rep couldn't figure out why I couldn't use two CruiseNexts. Only when the payment part comes up, does the rep get to see the error message. But yeah, you get bombarded for a day with the emails.
  2. I know there are people who do fine and save lots of money with NCL's air, but I like to have control over it. Also, it's easier to do the price drops, cabin switches and FCC if you only book the cruise through NCL and no flights or hotels.
  3. I'm curious, too, although I decided not to chance missing a flight and booked our flight out for the day following the disembarkation. We'll stay overnight at the Aurora Hotel, which is walking distance from KEF.
  4. I've done the Moderno on the Jade, Escape and the Pride of America. Each time, I've asked for it to be medium rare and they've always brought me a skewer that had meat cooked to that degree. If I thought the meat on the skewer looked overcooked, I said so ("Oh, this is well done. I'll wait until you have a medium rare one to bring me. Thank you.")
  5. Thanks. I do have mobility issues, so unsure about the bus changeover at BSI.
  6. NCL's transfer from Skarfabakki Harbour' to Keflavik airport is $75 per person. I called and asked yesterday while mulling over my options.
  7. That is the moral of calling NCL story. I just keep calling until I get a customer service rep who gives me the answer I want. Glad you got your pass.
  8. I don't know what happened, since there are plenty of excursions for April 1-4, 2025 on Viator from Colon. It could be that it's just too early or the webpage glitched or the excursions are being changed and won't be up for a while. Cruise itineraries can and do change, so just keep an eye on it and if NCL still doesn't have excursions for Colon, but it's still on your booked itinerary by next February, go with a Viator one that allows for cancellation if the ship can't make port.
  9. There's been a lot of civil unrest in Colon. Maybe they were removed because it's not safe?
  10. 1) Fill out the form at https://nclh.my.salesforce-sites.com/AccessDeskForm/ and there will be a gallon of distilled water in your cabin. For the hotel, I put distilled water in my checked luggage, inside a Ziploc bag. For times when we have a rental car, I pre-order distilled water and other needs at a nearby Target or Walmart. 2) You can't always count on the cruise line to have enough extension cords, so we bring a non-surge extension and I also ordered a couple of 20 foot power cables for our machines from SF Cable. 3) I bring 100lb magnetic hooks and "boot hanger" clips for my hose management. Some walls are not magnetic. On the Escape, I used the Studio cabin's magazine rack to hang my hose. I also use "snugglehose" fleece covers. I bring gaffing tape to keep us from tripping on the cords. 4) It's probably best to brinng pills in their original containers for international flight and embarkation and then make the AM/PM bags once on board. That's my plan. Another thing I do before going is to check where the nearest pharmacies and medical centers are to the port and take a list along. For your amusement, a photo of my cabin on the Escape with the hose.
  11. On the NCL Escape, I took a risk and waited to buy an excursion I wanted. I had the $100 shareholder OBC and the excursion was $69. It was sold out the first day, but 2 slots had opened on the second day, so I grabbed one. The $69 was deducted from my non-refundable OBC. I went on the excursion and came back to having $50 refundable OBC from the $50 shorex free at sea thing. So if you can do that, NCL will launder your money. 😉 For my upcoming one, since I don't want to chance not getting the excursions, I'm going to wait until I'm on board and use the $100 for upgrading to full internet. On the Pride of America, I didn't need excursions or internet, so wound up doing an upcharge Cagney steak in the MDR and getting some souvenirs for family and friends in the on board shop. You could also use it for a day pass or 2 to the thermal suite.
  12. I made the mistake of trying that. I'm from the Northeast and we do go to Maine and we get whole live lobsters in the summer for like $10 a lb. If that sauce has any lobster in it, it must be the green stuff from inside the body.
  13. I always fill out the NCL access desk form and then after getting my case number, I follow up. https://nclh.my.salesforce-sites.com/AccessDeskForm/ Yeah, doing this is a bit non-spontaneous. I meet with a restaurant manager and allergy specialist the first day and then they bring me menus for the following day and I choose what I want and they make it specially for me. But it reduces the worry and I don't have to continually reiterate my allergies at every single meal. With the exception of Pride of America, the NCL restaurant crew tracked my whereabouts and made sure I was taken care of.
  14. Maybe you were on a charter or "group" type cruise, because NCL itself hasn't had a formal night for as long as I've sailed with them (first cruise was 2003, specifically picked because I hate wearing formal clothing). But when the Star Trek cruise was on the Jade, there were formal and costume nights. Overall, though, not just on NCL, but as a whole, people have stopped being as mannered. I think it happened even before the pandemic. Just a gradual slope that we didn't notice until we spent 3 months isolated from everyone else.
  15. When I was on the Escape in Sept 2023, I knew about the CoffeeMate thing. I brought mini-moos. It was nearly impossible to get real dairy half and half for coffee. I ran out on disembarkation day and begged one of the Starbucks people for a cup with cream in it so I could drink coffee at the MDR. (They were nice and gave it to me.) I was astonished on the Pride of America to find the little brown tubes of Cloud House real half and half! I'm hoping the Prima has them, too. I really don't relish packing boxes of mini-moos.
  16. I don't do third party anymore. They're great when everything goes to plan, but when it doesn't, the third party (in my case, Orbitz) turn it into a total disaster. If you do go with a CheapFlights kind of place, definitely get travel insurance for sure. For us, we saved up United miles for a decade to be able to do nonstop from NYC to HNL in Polaris seats, which lie flat. It also might be cheaper to break up the flight (and easier on jet lag). Look for cheap flights from your home to SFO or LAX and then see if Hawaiian airlines has any specials from SFO or LAX to HNL the following day. I don't know if you have any loyalties or frequent flyer accounts, but for an upcoming cruise on the Prima, I found it was half the price to buy enough United miles (during their bonus sale) to top off what we had to get tickets from NYC to London and then Keflavik to NYC. So, buying miles if you have almost enough would make sense there.
  17. I think more appeared as time got closer, but to be honest, I didn't pay attention because all we did was rent a car on each island and go see what we wanted to. But I know when I perused them, there were more than 10 total on the NCL site.
  18. If you're on a ship with a Studio Lounge, they have WMF coffee machines that make a fairly decent latte, espresso and Americano. For free, no drink package needed. Yet.
  19. Not a pilot error. Something on the ship caught fire and the ship lost power and hit the bridge. Horrible accident and loss of life, even though it could have been worse if it was the daytime. And traffic through the area is always awful. We tend to take the 895 tunnel. That and the 95 harbor tunnel will be a mess for a while.
  20. The last time I looked, buying 1 of the Haven $500 Cruisenext cost $400 effectively. If you buy 2, then they're effectively $375 each. It might have changed in the time since I looked.
  21. The Youtuber either lied or was clueless or was not on NCL or they, themselves, decided to dress up that night. Every NCL ship is a relaxed dress code and the PoA is even more relaxed, where you can go to the MDR in bermuda shorts and a Hawaiian shirt. Even the Jefferson Bistro only requires a slightly nicer resort casual. That said, NCL will not stop you from showing up in gowns and tuxedos if you wanted to.
  22. Have him do a sleep study and get him a CPAP machine? If he suffers from sleep apnea, it makes the snoring go away.
  23. The Escape, which is Breakaway+ like the Getaway (I think) had a price of $299 for 7 days ($43/day) in Sept 2023. For your TA, I would extrapolate the amount to be $41/day (if it's less, you can be pleasantly surprised). So it should be around $574, ballpark. Premium Wifi should be between $300 and $350. I could be absolutely wrong. But these seem like they would be the right numbers. And a 14 day TA seems like the perfect time to have a thermal suite pass and premium wifi. (As opposed to the Pride of America 7 day Hawaii one, in which you don't need either one.)
  24. Not by far, would be my guess. I grabbed a bright aqua Swiss Gear 25" checked luggage on sale for $91, added some colorful Duck Tape to further differentiate it and then I put nothing in it that I can't easily replace, including my clothing, which mostly comes from Walmart or Target. When I make my packing list, I do it as a Google Doc and add the cost basis for everything in the checked luggage and replacement cost. The checked bag then has a AIG Travel Guard Bag Trak card in it and an Air Tag. I try to only take non-stop flights, so it reduces the amount of times the airline can lose my bag. I, too, am curious if the original poster was reunited with their luggage or if it was truly stolen forever.
  25. During the overnights, you can get on and off when you want. Just be back in time for departing.
