Moving fare-paying pax is not the answer ...

Move the crew smoking totally away from pax areas ...

Why not the crew bow area?

Or is that too inconvenient for crew to make their way there?  Poor things!

The Director did mention that, but that it was too windy.  And that they needed a place they could separate them from the passengers.  That’s why it’s been roped off.  (Whole Aft Promenade deck)
Wish I would have taken a photo when I went under the rope yesterday @ about 4:00PM to actually see what was going on. The Captain had just announced he was ready to take off.  I was surprised to see at least  25 crew members smoking there then,  Some of them could have been show dancers.  The cruise Director escorted me out of the area.
Not sure, but I think there’s only about 700 passengers onboard, so I have this feeling that all staff has heard about this.  Oh Great!

We would be beyond pissed off. I hope it doesn't ruin your whole cruise.

I feel really good knowing I did all I can do.  When I asked that Director who I should go thu @ corporate office is, and that I did go thru the right department even before I Ieft, which is customer relations@princess.com.  They should pass it on to the right upper management @ Princess.  I did let him know they didn’t respond to my 3 emails.   I’m sure they have their hands full.

    i appreciate your concern,

I have asthma, as so many people do.  When we walked on the deck one day there were at least 3 crew smoking and I held my breath when I walked by.  I was unhappy.  Also, hate the stinky casino (smoke travels to non-smoking side, of course), only go on the evenings when there is no smoking.

We are on the Grand now.  The Aft smoking situation on Promenade deck.is not good.   The whole back area Aft is roped off, for crew to smoke & it’s not just @ nite. It’s all day and night.  Don’t let anyone tell you different the smoke smell comes up weather the the ship is moving or not.  All day & nite.
The hotel director offered to change our cabin, my DH said no, it’s took much trouble.  It’s 10 days & I brought too much stuff.

OP here, my cruise leaves in 2 days and i am able to pick my arrival time as of today lol. "A" time slot of 1130 was still open

I am so glad you finally got to pick an arrival.  It’s the same time we got last Friday, when you were nice enough to post that arrivals were open.

    Thank again,

I agree the Casino smoking is a real contradiction when it was mandated to wear a mask.   That rule was just to satisfy someone (maybe the CDC).
My alternative solution would be to have them smoke somewhere else, that would not offend the paying passengers. Why should the paying passengers have to be inconvenienced by having to move.
Maybe all those many posters/passengers that have an aversion to smoke, finally get, that second hand smoke is not good for most of us.

Disclaimer:  I am not a smoker.  I am sensitive to smoke.  I do not sail in aft cabins.  I applaud you for addressing it with management...BUT...

Do you have a back up plan (move cabins)?

Do you have an alternative solution for this problem?

While you are at it, would you mention smoking in the casino (a mask mandated location).

I did not realize there were so many posters/passengers that had an aversion to smoke.  Good Luck.

Hi Ronnieslady.  I would really aopreciate your doing that,  We will be on the Ruby at the end of March in suite D736 for 15 days and then D737 for 5.  I really do not tolerate cigarette smoke weill and will be really annoyed if I'm not able to use our balcony.

I believe the Ruby is not too bad, but I will certainly bring up the Ruby when & if they answer or call regarding that email I sent off to customer relations  a few days ago.  And or I will also talk to the customer relations supervisor on the Grand , if we have a problem with smoke smell coming in our balcony, about the Ruby also.  Especially since both ships are & the Emerald & Crown are all configured the same.

By the way we have been in the same suite on the Ruby, it’s our favorite location.   And of course , never had a problem with cigarette smoke before.

A friend let me know about your post. Wasn’t me. Not sure what to tell you other than to say ignore any email that says it’s from me. Not that I don’t love you all but I’m not sending group emails.

Currently on the Grand in SF. Only 330 total passengers onboard. Having a great time. Staying on for the next cruise. FYI, booked an oceanview and once onboard, was upgraded to a mini-suite. Yay!

Pam,    Hope to see you in 2 days .   Hopefully keeping that nice low # of passengers onboard.

So glad you are having a great time ,

We also can not tolerate cigarette or cigar smoke. We avoid the casino for this reason (too bad, they could make some money from us 🤪).

We always book an aft cabin on port side as well.

I appreciate those of you addressing it with Princess in the best ways possible!

Yes ,  I will be addressing it with Princess, if we have any cigarette smoke coming up from below,  or coming from deck 7 , since we will be on the Dolphin deck aft, but port side.   We have been in that suite many, many  times in the past & never had a problem with smokers.   So if we detect anything different we will address it with management onboard. Not just for us, but for others that sail after us.
Thanks so much for your concern,

    Grace

I’m currently on the Emerald in an aft balcony. No smell of smoke. I was on my balcony quite a bit today before leaving Nassau and not a whiff of smoke.

That’s good to know.  Was the whole Promenade deck 7 opened for passengers to walk all the way around?????? Or was there any part of deck 7 closed off to walking passengers.???????     What deck are you on ?? & is your balcony aft facing ????? Sorry so many questions.       Maybe the upper management on the Emerald decided to have the crew smoke somewhere else.   I sure hope the Grand takes the lead from the Emerald & changes the crew only smoking area elsewhere.  That would be great, since we are boarding the Grand on Nov. 10th for 10 days.   My husband is very sensitive to cigarette smoke.

    Have a wonderful cruise.

Thanks for all your info & future info when you have time.

I can only add to the confusion.  I was on board the Grand a couple of weeks ago.  Went in circles trying to solve this puzzle.  On my account, the credit did show up as 50% OBC.  Next to it was NO designation that it was "non-refundable".  Internet Manager said to check with front desk.  I checked with Captain Circle Rep who said it "should be" refundable.  Got a call from the front desk and was told it is non-refundable even if it is NOT written on account.

I spent it all regardless so have no answer to if it is refundable or non-refundable.  I would think that the Captain Circle Barbara would have known.  She did say she would get back to me, but you know how that goes.

I would like a honest answer from Princess.  When I called to order Medallion Net, CSR person told me it WAS refundable.

I guess we should not be surprised🥴

I was surprised (first time with Medallion Net) to see how good the connection was on the Grand.  I was able to FaceTime my grandson on decks 5, 6, 7, and Promenade.  The only problem I had was that the Net kicked me off of my phone (when I wasn't using it) at 5 minute intervals.  If I put my phone down, I would have to reconnect.  That didn't happen to my iPad.  Not sure why.

Pandora is a free music App. he has on his i-phone.  I guess he is not a fan of the radio stations they used to  have on the TV.   Wonder if the TV's have any better music stations now.

     Thanks for your reply

  13. My DH wanted me to ask you smart Techie people, if he has or gets the Internet Package, will he be able to play Pandora Music on his I-phone while on the ship???

And will it depend on how great the connection is????    The ship is the Grand, in case it makes a difference.

Thanks so much he will appreciate the info,

    Grace

Are they smoking aft port side, or straight aft?  I’m so allergic to cigarette smoke.  sad

Sorry,  I took so long to answer. I am one of those that can't post anything here on CC because I am  doing so on my I-pad & it would not let me sign in. Had to use my regular desk top, not an apple.  Might be a little glitch.

From what I know or have read here on CC, for sure on the Grand. It's the whole back end (AFT) of the Promenade deck 7 . It's been ( roped off ) for crew only to smoke. So you can smell the cigarette smoke that rises, even the from the Bahia Deck 11.   In the past we all know there is a small area on the Promenade deck 7 on the Starboard side that is for smoking for passengers or crew. That is not what it is . Because its the whole back end AFT, its effecting part of the  Port side & Starboard side cabins & the smoke smell is rising much higher. Its been said its mostly when the ship is not moving or in port.

Also people on the Emerald said its the same as the Grand. The Ruby seems to be questionable.

Maybe with all that are concerned it will be changed. I am hoping before we board the Grand on Nov. 10th. in our aft facing vista suite it will improve.  If not the balcony will be unusable for us & many others.    When is your next cruise  ?????        I plan on letting the customer relations supervisor onboard,  know how  something needs to be done for this problem, specially for the sensitive (to the smoke smell) passengers that want to at least  use their balconies.  But only if there's a problem.

When I finally got thru to the customer relations supervisor, by phone on Friday late, she said, "she didn't know anything about it". I have E-mailed that dept. 3 times about it, but have not heard back from them.

It has been $10/day when paid in advance & $15/day when purchased onboard. Platinum & Elite receive a 50% credit onboard which wasn’t marked non-refundable but was not included in the refundable credit total last week. You can view the cost on the MedallionClass app to pre-purchase it.

Does anyone know if you sign up on the 1st. day of boarding is it the same price, as ordering before from the Medallion App.from home.??????

We are elite and the times just opened on the app this week for sailing on Nov 10th on the Grand.  About a week before!  Contacted Princess via Chat and was told to try back on the app the following day.

Thanks for letting us know.  I actually gave up. The Ocean Navigator department said just go when ever you want & get in the green lane. They might have fixed the glitches.   I was able to do the arrival just now.  We are in a Suite & are Elite .
I’m sure you can try it now.    Good luck & Thanks for posting.

@Ronnieslady, I wrote post #34 to you. I did make a mistake. I was in C742 and the gentleman that I spoke with was in C750. Unless they change something since you are one deck below us you will have smoke in port and not very much while cruising. Good luck and I hope this helps. I’m moving on. Someone is going to post those dead horse gifs soon. 😊

Thanks for letting me know. That will  not work out for my husband.  Not sure how they will be able to remedy this problem.  I would imagine that non-smokers will have more problems with this.  Can’t believe Princess would allow this under all those suites.

On the Grand Princess right now. Checked in a dozen sodas and a dozen Arrowhead water bottles. Packed them all in a suitcase and stapled a luggage tag on!

Did they make you go to the naughty room to pick up that suitcase.  I thought we were not  supposed  to check in or give to the porter those canned soft drinks, like we have always done in the past.
Thanks for letting me know.  We will do the same 😛

I said that we smelled no smoke on D737 balcony over the course of our cruise(s). That was our experience although others disagree.  We were out there several hours a day.  I might add that we have had cigarette smoke issues from “regular” passengers violating policies on other ships, so we just went inside.

The reason I ask is because, we will be in D736 on the Grand, Nov.10th, for 10 days. Hopefully we will have the same good experience on the other side (port side) in D736.

Thanks so much for all the good information. I really do appreciate it.   I’m sure others do also.  That way, we will be prepared  for certain things that might happen or might not happen.  I always seem to take things easier when I know ahead of time.

@AnyMajorCruiseDudeHi there. I am so glad that you had no issues with smoke on your D736 balcony. Post #34 discusses the problem in D737.

I was in the owners suite B751 two decks above you. I was on my balcony every morning from 5:30 am to around 8 am, every afternoon from 1:30/2 until 5 pm and then again around 9 till whenever (depending on how I felt 10-12 and one night as late as 3:30 am). There was smoke approximately 60-70% of the times I was on the balcony.  Most of the time the smoke was annoying and several times it was intolerable.  I did not go into Cabo and on the port days I could not comfortably use my balcony.

Is that what AnyMajor said in post #69 ???????
