  1. The lowest we got was $250 in tips up to $480 on a very good week. As I said we were the 3rd highest earning ship, so nothing to write home about. Happy to share with you all.
would that be is US $ and tax free and every thing suppllied except personals?

did you only get paid in tips or was it $250 in tips up to $480 plus your wage?

  2. I was on the Carnival Triumph. Would I recommend it, yes definitely, but in your early 20's when you have no commitments, cares or responsibilities. Depending on the ship, it can be ok money. I was able to see exactly what the other ship dealers were making and was gobsmacked that some were making less than $100 per week (ie. Australian ships and world cruises).

We were treated with suspicion because who in their right mind from Australia would work for $10 a day. We were also promoted a lot faster than others which caused friction as we could fully understand. The English language can take you a long way on the ships.

Ha ha, crew drinks were very cheap, but I'm not much of a drinker and by the time we closed the casino, the crew bar was closed most of the time.

Here's a short video of our room. Mind you in the hierarchy of the ship we were in the middle, below the officers and above the crew. We had a stateroom steward and tipped him $20 a week to change our towels, sheets etc and make the bed. We also used to tip our own waiters in the mess. Any questions, feel free to ask. I am happy to have had the experience and certainly appreciate my life here in Australia a lot more.

can i be so bold as to ask what you were making per week?
  3. Lovely to see new itineraries to Papua New Guinea, which holds a unique fascination for many Australians.

"A highlight of the new 2013-14 program, the Papua New Guinea sailings are priced from $1049* per person quad share for a nine-night cruise, with the maiden cruise to Milne Bay in October 2013 timed to coincide with the sacred Canoe and Kundu Festival where local communities compete in canoe races, costume display and cultural performances.

The short break cruises start from $529 per person quad share for a three-night cruise from Sydney."

Noticed prices still quoted pp quad share -

    $1049 x 4 for 9 nights

    $529 pp x 4 for 3 nights

I haven't noticed prices quoted per quad share anywhere else in the world.

Why do you think Carnival Australia quotes prices per quad share in Australia?

do you have a link to where you got these prices from please?

  4. OK, let's change the direction of this a fraction (cos quite honestly cutting and pasting crap off any job seeking board is pointless), if the wages are so fantastic, how come there aren't more Aussies, Canadians, Americans and other countries not from the third world working in those jobs.....tax or no tax......huh?
the crap you have so called said are job adds on Australia cruise ships.

where is your proof of the bad wages?

    What is the income level?

You can often make $2,000-6,000 (U.S. funds) or more per month. This depends on the cruise line that hires you, the position you're applying for and your previous work experience.

Is Cruise Line Employment right for you?

Working onboard a cruise ship does require hard work and discipline. It is common for employees to work 6 days a week and sometimes 10 hour days. You usually share your accommodations (cabin and bathroom) with other crew members and are required to maintain a certain level of behaviour in public places. Contracts are between 4 to 6 months in length and if you're a good employee there is usually an offer to renew.

However, if you're not afraid of a little hard work and getting to know people, working onboard a cruise ship can be an experience of a lifetime and in some cases life changing. The benefits of working onboard a cruise ship are endless. Which is why it is the most sought after employment in the tourism industry.

Although you will be working hard, you will have many opportunities to visit various countries and experience the life of other cultures. In addition to exploring eye capturing destinations and taking in the sights and sounds, you will have the chance to earn an attractive salary. And what's more is you'll be able to save money! Since your accommodations and food are always paid, the only money you will need to spend will be for your personal use.

How will I get to the ship?

Cruise lines will provide transportation from ship.

Do I have to pay for my living expenses?

Room and board are provided for free by the cruise line. Most employees shared a room with another crew member.

  8. Tipping personnel

Tipping personnel are the staff with direct contact with the guests who pay them "tips". There are specified amounts of tips per particular positions which are advised to guests prior to embarkation and which vary from one cruise line to another. Such personnel are waiters, busboys /assistant waiters, bar waiters/waitresses, bartenders, cocktail waitresses, etc. Tipping personnel have a small base salary. Most of their earnings are tips. Approximate sample earnings in this group are (in U.S. Dollars per month):

    Waiter from $2500 to $4000

Busboy / Assistant Waiter from $1500 to $3000

Bar Waiter / Waitress from $1000 to $2500

    Bartender from $1500 to $3000

These figures include the tips.....................that you don't pay or others take off (yes, including Americans.....I know that for a fact!!!). So if you don't pay..............they don't get paid this!

Seriously I wish you would read the fine print which is written in large letters!!

and if you add there wags ans tips together its a dam great wage more then then a ave worker in oz and in US dollors and TAX FREE
  9. In most cases, it's the responsibility of the individual worker to report any monies earned as income to their respective governments as declared by law. But in many cases, when a cruise ship employee works outside of his or her own country onboard a vessel where the employment contract is six months or more in duration, any income earned by that employee is not taxable by their country of origin.

so we have read all this and remember that this wage is taxe free every they buy on the ship is tax free and all there food is free and there room is free so a Cabin Steward Stewardess could earn up to $80000 per yr tax free including tips

a Bar Waiter / Waitress could earn up to $66000 per yr tax free

  10. I don't agree with your comment. Aussies generally have a similar view on tipping. The only difference I see is that those who have travelled extensively overseas (particularly to the US) understand that tipping is a part of life in some other countries and are prepared to go along with it.

If you really want to see an unpleasant debate on tipping, just mention the word 'tipping' on the US section of this forum. :D Very unpleasant words are used such as 'stiffing'. Sorry if I offend anyone by using this term. This is the first time I have ever used it.

but we are not on a US forum we are on an Australia and NZ forum, and talking about Australian based cruise ships.
  11. But as they're foreign workers you 'don't care if they're underpaid' and you'll take advantage of that.
yes you would be correct to say that.

If they are happy to work for lower wages that is there problem not mine and I should have to sub there ways by tipping.

one day they will learn not to except a lower wages, just like taiwan did and look where they today very rich and high wages

  12. The question was as follows

have you not seen any nz workers on any Australian base cruise?

and nothing to do Australian workers.

it seems that most of you dont cruise on P&O Australia:rolleyes:

99% of the security staff are NZ and about 5% of the waiters are NZ and about 2% are other crew as cabin staff.

Just ask our NZ lady who's daughter work for P&O security, that last I herd she was in the teens security.

  13. quote don't make us look like ill educated, uninformed twits....please.

thats why Australia has the best wages in the world and the best way of living and the best ecomeny of the world why/? because we do not tip and we are hard workers and many yrs ago we fought for the right for ways we have today, I for one am sick of our Australians and the Australian goverment of giving our money away to people and countries who have been so called poor for the last 60 yrs when we as Austaralia have chilren and people living on the streets. and all for the do gooders

and if you wish to tip good on you but I will not tip.
