I'm planning on canceling.  My husband and I are both considered in the high risk category.  He is a type 1 diabetic and I'm on meds for my rheumatoid arthritis.

While I know not going doesn't guarantee not getting Covis-19, the thought of being restricted to our room and then quarantined at some military base sounds like a nightmare.  Just not a chance we are willing to take considering our underlying medical conditions.

If I was in your situation I would likely cancel as well.  My mom has rheumatoid arthritis and it has really weakened her immune system.  She would definitely be high risk.

We are sailing april 19th, but as of yet I have not received the email from carnival. Could it be because I paid in full when I booked back in January?

Not likely.  I just received mine Saturday and we sail March 28.  Our friends on the same cruise have not received their email as of yet.  The OBC is automatically put oto your S & S account.  Not sure how to handle the cancellation part of it?

I'm booked in September as well.  I'm traveling with my mother who is in her late seventies and an aunt who is in her early seventies.  I'm not concerned at all.  We have 6 months.  So much can happen between now and then.  I think if it is still an issue by then, we will have no choice in the matter.

I agree, 6 months from now this will all likely be a distant memory.

I have been excited for a year for my March 28 cruise on the Panorama!I have not been worried about the virus as I think they are doing a great sanitation job. HOWEVER after the guests this weekend being delayed disembarking for 24 hours over ONE person the hospital decided to test..I am thinking maybe I will cancel. With airlines traveling full and over full these days all I can see is a NIGHTMARE changing and trying to rebook a flight out of LA to Spokane when there are not that many airlines coming here! I can see us getting stuck in LA for days! With carnival now giving credits for another cruise I guess it might be wise to cancel and rebook. Anyone else with these thoughts?

We are on that same cruise.  I agree the bigger hassle would be the rescheduling of flights if we were delayed getting off the ship.  We fly out on Sunday so that would gives a little wiggle room.  Right now we have no intentions of cancelling.

ditto what klfhngr  said above about it going and coming.

That said I have been on the itinerary 3 times at the tail end of the month of November into the first week of December. I have always found the temps to be comfortable (high 70's low to mid 80's) and the water temps to be in the mid to high 70's.

And for me those temps are not cold at all.  But I am from Canada where we really know what cold is.

Listen I am sorry if I offened you guys in Canada, I some times forget that we on CC have people of other nations on here as well..but she/he/it or what ever pronoun the poster uses... attacked first and I am getting tired of that

    Go Blues

Why would I be offended?  The spelling rule is the same in both countries, which is what AandBmom was commenting on.  She was just pointing out you used it incorrectly, not attacking you.

You could make the same argument for restaurants and bars. Whether you like it or not, there are a lot of jobs in the US  service industry, to include staff on ships cruising from US ports, that depend heavily on tips. In my opinion, if you can’t afford to tip at a restaurant you can’t afford to eat there and if you can’t afford the gratuities you can’t afford the cruise.

I disagree.  I can afford to tip, but I tip based on the service I receive.  Most times I tip close to the recommended amount of 15- 20%(in Canada), but I have tipped less if the service is poor.

Can agree - we had the same waitstaff for many cruises on a Princess ship who are a couple from the Philippines. We became friends with them and they own multiple homes, have several vehicles, take the most luxurious vacations, etc. Although they work very hard and their incomes are different than the average USA-based income, we must remember the cost of living is completely different in their home countries. Even though they are living among the very top percentages, it isn't a job I would want.

So then they are paid quite well according to the standards of where they live, the Philippines.

This makes more sense that they must make a decent wage, otherwise why would they choose to work for little money and be away for months from their families?

I guess if this elitist attitude is common for Havana guests, then I guess I’m glad I’m only a mere inside cabin (not in Havana) guest. I love to hear laughter, music, and people having fun. If I dared to play music and was told to stop because it didn’t fit some other persons idea of what a vacation should be, I might just play it louder. And I’m not an unruly youth. My hubby and I are senior citizens. As I mentioned several posts ago, I was totally against any area being off limits to guests that didn’t pay for the privilege of being there. That does not include guests that can afford balconies, suites, or even just OV. It means saying I can’t enter an area of the ship. It kind of heralds back to the days of “steerage” not being allowed up on deck. It was really evident on NCL with their Vibe area, which was no different than Carnival’s Serenity deck or Royal’s Solarium. NCL charges big bucks for the same privilege you get free on Carnival and Royal. What was even crazier was that people actually paid it.

I have paid for the Havana area on our upcoming cruise on March 28.  I fully expect to love it!  And especially love the fact that I will be able to find a seat/lounger in the pool area and not have to get up at 7 am to get one.  I love that there will be no small children running around.  Do not get me wrong, I love kids, but not on my vacation if they are wild and misbehaving(which all are not, of course).

I am guessing the area is now off limits due to non Havana guests ruining it by being unruly after 7pm and Havana guests complaining about it.  I like the new rules.  I can go to the hot tub/pool at night without having to battle crowds.

Like Coevan alluded to earlier in this thread, most things in the travel industry have different classes available to include ships. Not sure why some people have an issue with there being different options for a price available on a ship.

    Agreed!

Some people have issues because they do not want to be excluded from something, yet do not want to pay the premium price for it.  If I cannot afford(or choose not to pay for) a certain level of room, area, service etc, that is something that I need to live with.

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I would just add to this one.

I saw on Matt Mitcham’s IG, that he will be the CD on the Panorama from Apr 18-June 20 2020. Some cruisers just got very lucky. He is an amazing CD and truly nice guy.

What is so great about him?  I have never really cared who was the CD on any cruise, but it sure seems like a lot of people really do.  What makes a CD good/great as apposed to tolerable?

  12. Have not sailed a Vista class yet, will be on the Panorama in March.  However, as others have said, you will experience lines and some congestion at peak times on Lido deck(pools, buffet, bars, etc).  Sea days everything can get crowded, but that is to be expected.

I have been to all inclusives where we have had to wait in line to get into a restaurant.  The motto at most seems to be "hurry up and wait".

Now, we always travel at peak times to due to me being a teacher, so I am sure other times of the year are less crowded.

Actually I just made a steakhouse reservation today for my cruise and I did not have to pay. I did receive a confirmation e-mail from the steakhouse manager. I booked it through the Hub app under speciality dining. It did take me to the Carnival website but it did not ask for payment.

Just tried this through the app and it still wants me to pay.  I wonder if it differs from ship to ship?  We are sailing on the Panorama.

As I have said numerous times, you can book when you board, of course you will sit together like any other restaurant.

Yes, I know and I have seen your other posts.  But it would be nice to have the time we want ahead of time.  I will just book it and pay up.

Just went through this the other day.  7 of us want to go to the steakhouse.  Called Carnival to see if there was a way to link reservations so we could be seated together, but everyone pay their own way.  The said not possible -- one person had to do the booking (and pay) for all.

It's not a deal breaker but you'd think there would be another way to do it.

Agreed, there should be a way to link reservations so people can sit together and not have to book separately.

Ha! I know I do the same thing and quite frankly I'm annoyed we have to prepay for the steakhouse. What is the cancellation policy? I have to look that up now! BTW, I'm from Montreal originally but I live in NYC so I was actually wondering if you had those instant easy transfer services there!

Yes, we can easily e transfer money.  Not sure about the apps though.

  17. 15 hours ago, montREALady said:

Can the other couple send you an e-transfer and you just book all 4? Paypal...we have Venmo and Cashapp here in the US too, not sure if you have that in Canada.

Yes, of course that will work,  just grumbling.   First world problems, right?  Really nothing to complain about.
