  1. We live on the west coast right off of I-75 and always go to Miami the day before. I'm terrified of getting caught in a backup on Alligator Alley and not having an alternate route available. We stay at the Airport Hilton, find Cuban food for dinner and then head to the port in the morning. A little more expensive but much more relaxing.
  2. The best thing about South of the Border is the billboards. The rest is gross.
  3. Are tables of two readily available? We will be sailing HAL for the first time next summer and one of the reasons I like "your time" dining on other cruise lines is that it's much easier to get a 2-top that way.
  4. That's what my husband had and said. I just expected the Captain's choice to be special and it was gross.
  5. And on the Horizon, it was Chef Boyardee. I don't remember the description, but it looked and tasted like it came out of can of my childhood. Gross! Also, recommend skipping Guy's Pig & Anchor for dinner. It was essentially leftover from the lunch buffet. Dried out and tasteless.
  6. I've been comparing these two for a 2024 trip and I'm going with the 2nd. We actually plan to fly into Amsterdam and spend a few days there before taking the train to Rottendam. It appears the train is only about an hour and I'm sure the train system in The Netherlands is much more reliable than here in the US. 🙂
  7. We stayed at the Hilton at the airport. It was very nice and a whole lot cheaper than the Bricknell hotels. We drive over from the west coast of Florida and have a car, however. But it's a short drive to Little Havana and really not that far from the port. We are staying there 2 nights in September before our next cruise and going to a couple of Marlins games. Not far from the ballpark either.
  8. Thanks for everyone's suggestions and help. We ended up at Versailles. Waited about 10 minutes. Food was good and surprisingly inexpensive. Went to El Pub for breakfast on Saturday. We shared a pork and egg sandwich. My husband really enjoyed that, but I thought it was very dry. When we returned the following Sunday we did breakfast at Islas Canarias. That was pretty good and hubby was happy because he got my coffee in addition to his. (Can't stand the stuff! Makes me want to puke!) We'll be back in Miami in early September for a couple of nights before our Western Caribbean cruise. Probably going to the Marlins games (GO NATS!) but will be able to try more places then.
  9. Had them on the Horizon last week and thought they were fine. Better than what you get at the Deli.
  10. Hi, We are driving to Miami from the west coast of Florida on this Friday night. Boarding the Carnival Horizon Saturday morning. I'm hoping we will arrive between 7 and 8 pm. Is there any chance of getting into this restaurant at this time without waiting forever? Is there parking in the area? Are we better off ordering on the website and picking it up and then having it at the hotel? We are staying near the airport. Also, if we do carry out, we can do a "drive by" - DH will let me out, drive around the block while I pick up the food and pick me up when I'm done. Thanks
  11. Unfortunately, just because someone is pregnant doesn't mean they are not going to drink. One would hope so, but I'm sure lots of us baby boomers had drinking and smoking mothers (I certainly did). I'm sure some people look at that and say, "I can have a drink or two or a glass of wine while I'm on vacation."
  12. Wow! I live in the town where the factory is and you can't get them for that price in the outlet store! I'm going to stock up. For the most part we only use Tervis tumblers and coffee cups because I don't allow glass or pottery on the lanai because of the pool.
  13. Obviously Norfolk! It's right around the corner from the Navy Yard. 🤣
  14. How far out are y'all from your departure date? I know the odds are against me but I'd like to know when to give up hope. 😄
  15. Many years ago (on another cruise line) we were able to have unfinished bottles of wine put away and then have them retrieved another day no matter what food venue we were in. Is this possible today on Carnival? I see some bottles that I would like, but my husband would not. It would be great if I could start it the first night in the Steakhouse and continue the next night in the MDR and maybe even the following evening (yes, unlikely I know) in JiJi. Is that something Carnival does? Thanks.
  16. Thanks. When it took forever for anyone to reply I decided that was saying something in itself. I think we'll just take the bus to Arashi beach. Again, thanks for the info.
  17. Has anyone done this? I really can't find an excursion I'm interested in. Thanks.
  18. Thanks. I looked at our reservation again and it includes free parking. I may still switch because I can stay at a Hilton near the airport for about $150 less. It looks like it's a 15 min drive to the port from airport so I don't really see a downside.
  19. We live in Venice and took our last cruise out of Tampa. Park at the Port. You used to be able to pre pay and there was a discount but that was pre pandemic. Check the Port website for the latest info. When the cruise was over, we were over the ship and home before 10 am. We probably stopped for breakfast too.
  20. Is there a charge for parking at the Intercontinental? I have a ressie but I cringe everytime I see the rate and if it doesn't include parking I may look elsewhere. Just staying one night before our cruise in Feb. Thanks.
