My only question is are all legs of travel on Turkish Airlines? If so, then your baggage with be checked thru to Rome and all is well.

If your onward travels from IST is on another airline, then check to ensure they have an interline agreement. If not, which happened to me, then your adventure may begin sooner that you planned.

Yes, all legs are on Turkish Airlines.

  2. Looking to book from Chicago to Rome.  There is a layover of 2 hrs and 5 min in Istanbul.  Will we have enough time to get through customs?  Will I need to get my luggage and go through customs?  Thanks.

Yeah, I tried to book tickets and it would only let me book for this week.  You could book tickets through TripAdvisor then cancel if you can get earlier tickets through the official website a week before your trip. When we arrived early to get in line to enter the Acropolis, I believe tickets were available at the Ticket Office for an earlier entry.  I had purchased an entry time of 8:45am I think and they made us wait until that exact minute. In retrospect, since we were able to get to the ticket office by 8:15, I wish I would have purchased tickets when we arrived and walked in at 8:30am.  Not a huge difference but the tour groups were lining up to enter at 9:00am and we wanted to be ahead of them.  Remember to check your backpacks.  Wear shoes that can support you over rough terrain.  Is everyone in your party able to climb stairs?

thanks! Yes everyone is able to climb stairs.

Are you buying your tickets through the site in my post #16? I bought my two tickets through that site then went to the ticket kiosk to redeem them. You should be able to get your discount at the website. When are you going to the Acropolis?

Me, daughter and 2 SIL going in Oct 2024 off a cruise.  Website is telling me eticket is not available at this time.

    No such thing.

Go to the official website and buy timed entry tickets. Show up at the time you select and you will be in within a few minutes. The Acropolis is now limiting the number of people that can enter each hour.

No need to pay a third party website for supposed skip the line tickets.  Again, no such thing.

    Is this the official website?

  6. Looking to book a flight to FCO (Rome) for our upcoming cruise.  I understand that if we make flight arrangements with connecting flights, we have to go pick up our luggage and go through customs to get to our connecting flight.  I'm looking at all sorts of carriers and see multitudes of different layover times.  Some have 1 1/2 hr layover time.  Do these carries allow so little time to pick up your luggage and go through customs to get to the your connecting flight?  Or is it really that easy?  Help!!  Does this also apply to connecting flights in Canada??  Thanks.

Train. Private transfers. I suspect they will offer transportation. Cabs. All discussed if you look around the board.

Also mentioned is that driving in Rome is NOT recommended,  as there are many limited parking and driving areas, plus just crazy traffic.

I was in Rome in 1991 and traffic was crazy then.  I can only imagine what it's like today!
