  1. Hi, My brother-in-law is now wheelchair bound as he had a stroke a couple of years ago where he never fully recovered the strength on his right side. When he was a teenager, he wanted to work on cruise ships as a cruise director. (He was on a Disney ship and hung out with the crew) Unfortunately soon after, he was diagnosed with a seizure disorder that restricted what he could do. He's now 53 years old and I was thinking that if there was a way for him to do a cruise now I'd try and plan it. I'm thinking of doing a cruise out of Boston as that would eliminate flying to an airport. I know that I have seen many passengers on cruise ships in wheelchairs. But I don't know if the ships that have handicapped accessible cabins. Does anyone know? Any suggestions or recommendations would be helpful. Thanks Flip
  2. I think that it may have had other countries listed but I'm not positive as I was just trying to see what the book was.
  3. I just got off the Breakaway today and there was a book in the cabin with a list of the embassies. I sort of stumbled on it. On the Breakaway, it was in the magazine holder below the television! Maybe someone who is reporting live from a ship can confirm this? Flip
  4. I used AT&Ts plan last year on a cruise to Bermuda and they didn't set my plan up right Then they tried charging all these roaming fees. My wife who stayed home called them. We straightened it out the bill when I got home. Airplane mode is definitely your friend with the plan. Flip
  5. I was able to pre-book Teppanyaki last year on the Pearl and this year on the Breakaway 120 days out both times. They seem to book up quickly. Flip
  6. I believe that you can do this when it's time to check-in. I'm not sure if it's a standard rate, but when I cjhecked-in this morning it was $199 per stateroom.
  7. Question - are the OBCs that they are giving us in lieu of NCL refunding the port fee?
  8. The comments on the article were crazy!
  9. We're on the cruise on the 19th and there's a slot tournament and masquerade ball that I was invited to by CAS. They're giving us $100 in onboard credits (non-refundable) for the cancellation. The cancellation stinks. Flip
  10. I called the Casino at Sea reservation number 877-742-9524 and spoke with a representative that told me that they have updated the awards and that Pearl ranked players will be receiving $75 in OBC. Not budging on the free drinks in the casino though.
  11. Two years ago we took the ferry to Hamilton and did the free walking tour with the town crier. Ed Christopher (the town crier) seems to know almost everyone in town and almost everything about the neighborhoods. It's a lot of walking and the streets are not flat or even. Last year my brother and I toured the Bermuda National Museum right in the dockyard. Interesting stuff if you are a history buff. (yes I did the cruise 2 years in a row! something about no flying to the port) Unless you have OBC that you want to use up, no need to use NCL for the excursions. Flip
  12. We're taking the Breakaway out of Miami in May and I am looking to book airfare from Boston - Miami roundtrip. The itinerary has the ship at port at 7:00 AM. My past two cruises were on the Pearl and they did a "virtual" customs/immigration check in on the ship so we could get off the ship, grab our luggage and head home. (The last stop on the cruise was Bar Harbor ME which may be why they do it that way.) Do they do that on the Breakaway? I'm thinking of looking for the flight home to depart the airport around 12:30 and trying to figure out if I am giving us enough time to get off the ship and head to the airport for that time frame. Thanks, Flip
  13. Yes, this is associated with a slot tournament. Thanks for the information. Flip
  14. We're thinking of taking a cruise on the Breakaway in May that offers a masquerade ball and wondering if anyone has been to the ball and how it was? How dressed up do people get? And do they serve food or is it just a cocktail party? Thanks, Flip
  15. Hmm, I could have sworn that my player's card was handed to me at check-in last year before boarding the Pearl . But, things were a little crazy leading up to the cruise. So my memory could be off.
  16. Were you cruising on a casino offer? I've always received my players card and drink card when I checked in at the check-in desk when I checked in. I never picked them up at the casino.
  17. I don't remember if we got a confirmation or not when we registered. You probably can just show up. I don't think that there was a maximum number for the tour.
  18. We did it last June and loved it. Some of the people in our tour were locals that were doing it again with friends that were visiting Bermuda.
  19. I did the walking tour last June and we loved it. Ed Christopher, the town crier, seems to know everyone in Hamilton or is related to them. we were able to tour the temporary Parliament hall while it was not in session. We took the ferry from the dockyard to Hamilton and it was $9 roundtrip
  20. I have sticky notes at my desk that I count down. When it gets down to double digits it feels like the cruise will be here before you know it. 73 days. Flip
  21. I get text messages all the time telling me that my Netflix or Amazon has been closed because of some excuse or another. I don't have either and a simple review of their email address will show that's not coming from either company. (for some reason these texts always seem to come from an email address and not a phone number. I simple trick to see if the email address is legitimate is to hover your mouse over the email for a few seconds and it will show you the actual email address that it's sent from. Flip
  22. I think that you are misconstruing what BirdTravels posted. The casino will open up at 9:00 PM until closing while docked in Bermuda. I was on the Pearl last June and that was the case. I usually left the casino around 2:00 AM so I can't say how late is closing. Flip
  23. As far as I know, it's part of the beverage perk that CAS players get in the casino. Where are people getting the insane notion that you have to spend $175K or $250K to reach Pearl status? To reach Pearl status you need to cycle through $25,000. The only way that you would actually spend that amount would mean that you lost every hand or spin of the slot machine. Flip
  24. My wife and I have only cruised on the Jewel, Dawn, Gem and the Pearl and have enjoyed every cruise. We're booked on the Pearl again this June from Boston to Bermuda. Flip
