  1. Enjoy your specialty cruise… 😉😎 Love ya!!
  2. It would be tough to imagine something without first experiencing it. Under 50-60 is better, but still very much a minority. Many are family members. Few are young couples.
  3. Yes, but you first must take the free shuttle from the ship to the shore. They’re still working on the rock slide damage and it is unsafe to walk the pier with the walkway lane closed. Once you get on shore, it’s a flat 5-10 minute walk to town, or you can take the local SMART shuttle for $3 each way. By the time we returned to town from our excursion around 1PM, the crowds had thinned as most returned to their ship for a “free” lunch. We had a great lunch and excellent beer at Skagway Brewing Company on 4th. Also got a funky t-shirt there, instead of the ones that scream ALASKA on the front and have a bear or moose.
  4. Today we are in Skagway, a community of 400. There will be 9,000 cruise ship passengers joining us. And the locals are providing a shuttle bus to town for $5 round trip. This may not be our best day of cruising on this trip…
  5. Tried one yesterday. It is most definitely a taste we have not acquired! 😖
  6. I’m not sure how preferring that folks adhere to a dress code became snobbish or elitist. Some of us would just like others to show just a little consideration for the published code and their fellow passengers. My preferring not to see ripped jeans, pajama bottoms, muscle t-shirts or white robes in the dining room is in no way elitist - it’s common courtesy, which is something that appears to be lacking in the next generation of cruisers.
  7. The Walmart folks are different from you and me. (With apologies to F. Scott Fitzgerald).
  8. Every day, at 8AM. Much more relaxed experience than the buffet!!
  9. Perhaps if this question didn’t show up as a new thread every other day…
  10. Dear Mods - Please close this thread after 800 responses. Thank you.
  11. Have you never heard of “dueling pianos”??
  12. https://ruinmyweek.com/trashy/people-of-walmart/
  13. So glad you were a high-class entertainer instead of a mere lounge lizard…🙄
  14. Superior is too strong a word, but there is no denying there are classes of people in our society who vary according to the trait being discussed. I was only discussing dress. ✌️
  15. With famous entertainers!! Wow!! Although I still can’t figure the relevance of that to the topic…
  16. That settles it - effective immediately the Viking dress code will be “Walmart modern”! 😉😎
  17. Just one show at 9. Earlier in the evening there are guest lecturers, that have been pretty good!
  18. This trip has been a bit better than in the recent past, but it’s always the outliers that you notice. There was a reminder on the dress code in the daily, so perhaps others have similar observations.
  19. I’ve said this before, but as Viking moves down market to fill it’s growing fleet of ships, there is noticeably more variation in dress and behavior. Some are seemingly OK with that.
  20. We’ve had similar codeshare experiences. First of all, we totally disregard anything on MVJ and go directly to the carrier’s site. Viking does NOT update your original reservation. Always be sure you’re using the operating carrier’s ticket locator, not the issuing carrier’s. This is a key “self-help” opportunity area, as the flight airline has always been very accommodating when resolving issues.
  21. Bingo! That explains why my second serving had 6 shrimp and lots of pasta.
  22. Today was supposedly glacier watching day, but we did not get within a mile of the Hubbard glacier. Some heard that there were large ice chunks, called growlers, that made it too dangerous to get closer, although ships from Celebrity and HAL seemed to get close. Trip has been good, although Viking seems to be gravitating to “on your own” excursions, meaning no guide, just some admission tickets to local attractions. Not sure that qualifies as an excursion…
  23. Manfreddi’s still has chicken parm. However, portion sizes on many items have drastically shrunk. I got prawns and angel hair as my meal and was served 3 shrimp and a few forkful’s of angel hair. I had to ask for another order to get a full meal. My SIL got 4 ravioli’s and also had to order another serving. These were embarrassingly small portions. The rib eye is still full- sized, thank goodness.
  24. On the Orion now. A line does form at 5:45 because the Restaurant opens at 6 and many may want to go to early evening activities. The line does clear very quickly, and we have never encountered a line at any other time. There are always more than enough tables every night, so it’s not a capacity concern.
  25. Viking’s dress code is a classic example of the vast difference between the written word and the real world.
