  1. We just got off Oasis (8/20/23 sailing). Ate in Giovannis, 150 Park Central, and Chops. 7:00 or 7:30 reservation at each. Less than 50% full each time. 150 Park Central on Thursday evening had maybe 4 other tables plus the Chefs table (which only had 6 people at it). I remember when steaks of better quality than you get at Chops were regulars on the MDR menus for no additional charge.
  2. I'm sorry, did I miss the memo that said we need to be "ship design experts" to be critical of the design of ships we cruise on? Have you considered the possibility that the people with the knowledge, people with engineering degrees, just may have actually made some mistakes? I AM an engineer and I can tell you from experience that engineers make mistakes. Lots of mistakes. Using this logic, they should build the venue with exactly one seat.
  3. I don't think there is an issue with splitters. I believe a simple 3x1 is OK (at least it has been for me). But your point is well taken.
  4. Looks is one thing, but showing whip creme and a cherry and not delivering is different than just "looks better"
  5. Bummer. Last time I was on RCCL, I recall the JR milkshakes being as good as the ones on land. I was looking forward to a good milkshake. The good thing is at the very least now I won't be disappointed.
  6. The funny thing about this comment is, I thought that was a Carnival tradition. Been a while since I've been on either Carnival or RCCL - did Carnival have them too? But I definitely remember it as being a first-day tradition, so, sounds like I am misremembering it as Carnival and it's actually only RCCL. Sorry to hear they don't do it any longer.
  7. The monitors actually don't weigh that much. One of the three in the picture is actually my laptop, so it's 2 monitors that go into the suitcase. I have some packing material specific for those monitors and when you put the cords and dock, etc, the bag usually comes in just under 40 lbs. I also have status so I don't have to pay to check a bag, so, the only cost is time waiting for the bag to come off the carousel.
  8. Well, there should be some relief in so much as there won't be any kids. I've found on most ships, the adult areas tend to be less crowded than the non-adult areas. Hoping that to be the case on Oasis. We'll see soon.
  9. I've got two monitors, a dock, cables, etc that fit nicely in a suitcase. I bring that with me when I travel and plan to be in the same place for more than a couple days. It's really quite easy and I could easily set it up in a cruise ship room. The chair would be the bigger concern for me. Here's my workstation at the Marriott Circular Quay earlier this month:
  10. I am aware, which is why I wrote "I'm hoping the Solarium gives us some escape from the mobs" and not "I hope solarium is the same as Vibe"
  11. Snarky much? Using your logic, many or most questions here probably shouldn't be asked.
  12. You have no way to know if you are going to get your upgrade. Chances are pretty slim if you stick near the minimum. My suggestion is book vibe now, place your bid and if you get your bid in time you may be able to get Vibe taken off and get credit for it.
  13. That B+ ships is my experience, I (apparently mistakenly) assumed they all did. I thought from the pictures Prima/Viva did too but perhaps not? I'll find out first hand in December.
  14. And most have some sort of water feature to help you stay cool.
  15. Can you elaborate on this? I haven't been on RCCL in over a decade, got very used to Vibe on NCL and I'm hoping the Solarium gives us some escape from the mobs. We've already learned the Solarium Bistro will be closed for the duration of the August 20 sailing, so, now wondering why else we might be disappointed with Solarium. Thanks for your reporting through the 9 days.
  16. I saw it on NCL Encore last November. And now it's gone. Go figure.
  17. I've got a reservation for it on my August 20 cruise on Oasis.
  18. Hard to believe that crap actually generates business for him.
  19. I don't understand how people like that get 229K followers. And 4.9K actually gave the thumbs up?
  20. I agree. I was wondering what's the point. I compare him to a young woman we met on NCL Encore last November. She was from Grand Caymen, rented out her apartment there and spent most of her time living and working from cruise ships. The costs were a wash, or so she said. But in her case, she moved around from ship to ship itinerary to itinerary, seeing new places, etc. When we saw her, she'd been on Encore for a few weeks, coming down from Alaska to Miami and doing a week in the Caribean. She was then flying to the west coast to get on some other ship for a few weeks in the Pacific. She still worked, but balanced it with enjoying where she was. That lifestyle sounds much more interesting to me than being on the same ship running back and forth to the Bahamas.
  21. I don't understand the question. A "guarantee" category means they will assign your cabin at a later time and you do not get to choose it. A guarantee typically differs from Sail Away in so much as you can get the FAS perks. Did that answer your question?
  22. I wonder why you bothered to ask if you'd already decided on an answer.
  23. @BND Sorry to hear of your father's situation. Considering the specific note you were replying to, I am confused. If something happens to your father that would cause you to have to cancel a cruise, is your Allianze policy going to reimburse you for the cost of your cruise (and other non-refundable items, e.g. air)? I have a similar situation and therefore have been buying individual trip policies that cover if my MIL (elderly with many pre-existing conditions) were to cause us to miss a trip.
  24. I'm not disagreeing, but, my last two cruises were on Bliss and Encore, both had two major productions in the theatre. That fact alone really set NCL apart. I'll be on Oasis in a week. Another one that seems to have more entertainment that we can take in. It'll be interesting to compare, especially if the big production shows all disappear from NCL.
