  1. "We are baaaaaack!!"

Yes, it is true. JW and Jerome are back and going on the Third Adventure of The Norwegian Escape on March 25th, 2017.

We are also sailing with some NCL Escape (1st Adventure) friends and we hope you are looking forward to the final chapters and additions to "The Adventures".

    It's a Trilogy!

A word of note as to our absence. When we returned from The Second Adventure sailing on The Escape this past August, 2016, the experience we had on the second sailing was nothing remotely like what we had just six weeks earlier on the same ship. Six weeks earlier, Jerome and I had, what quite literally was, the Best Cruise Ever out of our 45+ sailings together. On the second journey, though each and every cruise is different, I truly felt that I could not write about it fairly and in my unique style, as it would not be appreciated as such and I did not want it to ever be misinterpreted as a negative review. Consistency is what is important. Every life experience is always new, sometimes good and then other times not so good. The second sailing experience for me, simply put, was difficult to write about and it took me some time to come around, as I just wanted to be left alone for a while to process the benign experience.

That August sailing on the Escape was truly a Murphy's Law Theory put into practice, as what can go wrong did, from the very first minute we stepped on board the ship, and you know me, Trouble follows me everywhere. There were so many troubling situations we encountered, that frankly, none were directly the fault of Norwegian, the Crew or the ship, it was just that the passengers were completely off the chain, and, I might say, it was a "Perfect Storm" of constant passenger misbehaving issues. "Wild" is too nice a word to use for this cruise.

I will note that there was a combination of a completely new Senior Officer Crew (as the senior crew just went on vacation) on their first sailing together on The Escape, a whole host of new procedures that were not properly rolled out or communicated, new crew members bumping into each other (a lot of new mid-level Chiefs getting to know their new duties) and add a thorough tossed salad of weirdness and violence in passengers that we have never experienced in our 45+ sailings, (it was like a full moon every night) and then throw "me" into it all and literally all heck breaks loose.

One such event, you heard me allude to in previous posts, was our last night's dinner at Teppanaki. On the first Escape Sailing, we had dinner in Teppanaki (also on the last night) and it was a "less than stellar" (and Auntie JW is being kind here) experience. You know me, if there is a challenge, then speak up and let the company provide TRUE "Customer Service" and a chance to recover. Norwegian, knowing that we would be sailing again in 6 weeks, offered us a chance to re-experience Teppanaki the way it was supposed to be on the second sailing, and to be completely fair, It was an awesome experience. The Show, the Presentation, the Food, the Lobster, the Service. All were exceptional. It was a big WOW. All the more reason to feel positive and uplifted on our very last night, of what had been a very weird, passenger-horrific, cruise. It seems that Jerome and I would have these awesome experiences each day and night, then have our incredible feelings ruined by strange and nasty occurrences with wild and unruly passengers.

Jerome and I spent our last night, instead of enjoying our final moments of vacation at the bar, with Security. All because a deranged passenger came into Teppanaki just as everyone at our performance table were finishing a perfectly marvelous meal and experience. Then, all of the sudden, this crazed woman starts picking up dishes that are preset at the tables in front of us and, at random, begins hurling dishes across the room directly at us and most of which went crashing behind Jerome's head on the wall. I screamed, as saw the first one coming in, yelling at the table "Incoming! "Everyone, Everyone Duck" Crash! Then another, Crash! Another, Crash! We all hovered below the table. Then a barrage of F* Bombs as the passenger got closer to the table, seemingly her yelling was directed at all of us as to why we did not wait for her to have dinner? (Mind you, we were there for about 2 hours already and were finishing up our desserts and conversations). She proceeded to target one person at our table and grabbing a filled beverage glass, she spilled the drink all over this woman. She was then surrounded by the quick thinking restaurant staff until Security arrived moments later. "OK Jerome, here we go again", I said, "On our last night, Security!"

Apparently, her dining partner, a woman who was by herself at our table of 10, was the one who had not waited for this outraged passenger to go to dinner with her. I could not make heads or tails of what exactly she was saying but it seemed to me that this crazy woman had too much to drink and passed out in their cabin and so the other woman, well, she decided to dine alone. Oh well, that started the fire storm which led to dishes flying and Jerome and I with security for an "Interview" and forms to be filled out on our last night of the sailing. Once Security arrived, the woman who was screaming and yelling spilled out into the central atrium and further interrupted folks having, perhaps what was once a few minutes earlier, a lovely dinner at Le Bistro Al Fresco dining. Security dealt with the issue right there in the atrium, in front of everyone, so it was embarrassing as folks thought that we were somehow involved when it was Jerome who had narrowly missed incoming fine china missiles at dinner. So we had to fill out these forms and be "Interviewed" right there, all on our last night aboard, and then having to go to bed feeling completely worn and stressed out. I realize that it could have been worse. We could have been in the Infirmary getting stitches from broken glass, or who knows from this random kooky person going nuts. But this was literally the icing on the cake from a week's worth of many passengers misbehaving badly and violent incidents that, though I was not involved with, "Trouble" just happened to be around and witnessed the incidents when they occurred, causing me to be "Interviewed" by Security more than once. At that time, I could not wait to get off the ship and the last thing I wanted to do was write about the experiences. I can just imagine what they are saying now. "Oh Crapola, JW'S COMING BACK, BATTON DOWN THE HATCHES!!!!" "Oy!"

So, on this next sailing, once I am home, when I write the conclusion, we are going to average in all the restaurants experiences - times 3, all the on-board experiences - times 3, all the bar experiences - times 3, all the staff accolades - times 3 and I will be leaving out all the Non-NCL issues (unless they are funny and embarrassingly happen to me) and provide a fun filled, thorough accounting of a Martini laced, "District's 85 Beer" different beer sampling, Cappuccino with Baileys Adventure like you all are used too. It's a Trilogy! I Love it!

Until then, Auntie JW says "Have a Martini or Seven, Every Night when on a Cruise!" (or when you're not on a cruise, that is perfectly fine too, as long as you don't drink and drive)

  2. Where do you find this info? I have found it before and I have been unsuccessful at finding it again. I logged into My NCL account and clicked on specials and promotions and can not find any for any sailings. I'm terrible at searching for things. LOL Thank You for your help.

With the help of cruise passengers traveling at this time, the CruiseNext desk issues a listing of current offerings. I saw a list of three cruises posted on here just a week ago, from a couple on board The Breakaway this week. I am trying to see if I can locate the listing again. But then again, it is now February, so deal may have expired. I just looked on the site and saw a whole bunch of Latitude extra point sailings but none with the extra certificate deposit.

Here is what I found so far on line: https://www.ncl.com/cruisenext

BOOK A CRUISE IN EUROPE AND SAIL BEFORE DECEMBER 31ST 2017 AND DOUBLE YOUR REWARD ON SELECT SAILINGS.

NOW WHEN YOU BOOK AND SAIL IN EUROPE BEFORE DECEMBER 31, 2017 ON SELECT SAILINGS SIX NIGHTS OR LONGER

YOU CAN APPLY TWO OF YOUR CRUISE REWARDS OR CRUISENEXT DEPOSITS TO YOUR VACATION , A VALUE OF $500! !

DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS INCREDIBLE OFFER!

  3. This week I called NCL about using 2 certificates for a cruise in 2018. I was told at this time I could only use one certificate, so I should go ahead and use it, then if later on that cruise is eligible for 2 certificates I can add my second certificate to that booking. I hope that is true, I guess we'll see.

Two certificates can only be used during a specific sailing or during a specific promotion. Right now there are a couple of cruises to the Med and a couple on The Breakaway/Getaway that are accepting two as deposit, but not across the board on all sailings.

  4. How many can you apply per cruise: one per cabin or one per person?

Are they only valid for new bookings, or can you apply one to a cruise you already have booked?

How do you transfer these to someone else?

Can you transfer them to someone who has not yet cruised with NCL?

    Thanks!

Usually one certificate per cruise. BUT, several times a year, you may use up to TWO Certificates per deposit, as we did for our August Escape cruise as it was a special offered promotion. Right now, there are several ships that NCL is offering double certificate promotions both in the Med and in the Caribbean for this year.

  5. Forgive my ignorance, but what is CAS boarding?

Casinos At Sea Invited Comp Guests specifically booked by the Casino and have certain play minimums to be considered a member. Anyone can join the club, but based upon play (Slot machine points are 1 point equals $5 play) the comps flow after the first cruise.

Also, the first level is "LUCKY". That is from point 1-4999. The next level is "HOT". Once you reach 5,000 points to 15,000 points. After that is "GOLDEN" which runs from 15,000 points to 30,000 points at which the Max is "PLATINUM DIAMOND".

These tiers have nothing to do with the NCL Loyalty tier program and are just for internal CAS promotional programs and complimentary cruise levels, again, based upon play. A player is only as good as their last cruise until an average of 5 sailing "Theoretical Averages" can be assumed, then the comp level is determined per 18 month intervals.

The Casino play levels will stop and begin again on April 1st, 2017. So whatever level a player is on April 1st, they remain so for 18 months and will have to re-qualify during this new period to remain or increase their level for the next level period ending/beginning in October 1, 2018.

I am currently CAS play level HOT and just inches away from GOLDEN and plan to do get to that level on our upcoming cruise in March, before the deadline, along with a couple of other Casino friends. As long as I play, I am always just reinvesting in a future cruise, that's how I see it. And, it is what I enjoy.

If there are any other questions, please ask and I will try to answer them for you. I have been a CAS member since the beginning when it was first coordinated and NCL operates the best Casino system on the High Seas. Any Casino Host (especially the best host Christina Bica) can answer everything one needs to know once the ship is sailing and the casino is open.

  6. Lucky you, 12 one liter bottles would last me about 3 days, and that is for one person.

We offset our water consumption with the consumption of lots of UDP Adult Beverages. I find a Martini or seven per day to be fun, along with all the wine and beer throughout the day and of course the best part of the morning, my hand crafted Bloody Mary on the Escape to get the day going. Joy, sheer JOY!

  7. We just bite the bullet and pay the exorbitant cost for a case of 12, 1 Liter bottles. Each bottle lasts us, usually 1-2 days (each) for a 7 day cruise, so it's enough. We request the Cabin Steward to remove everything from the refrigerator and store some of the bottles there so they are chilled. We use the water for the coffee machine in the morning, on deck as we lay out in the sun and during the night on our nightstands and have found that 12 bottles is plenty for us for the 7 night journey. Plus we get on extra bottle each for being Latitudes Gold Member and above.

  8. Hey - good to see you around again. Hope all is well.

Hi Hi! Thanks, you too, and yes, because of a new "Secret" upcoming Escape sailing, I can now properly finish "The Adventures". You should see it resurrected very soon. We were unable to do complete the second part because of a whole range of issues that occurred on that second sailing, so we are just going to end up calling it a "Trilogy"!

  9. Here are the new rules for the Upgrade Advantage Program as outline by NCL:

Upgrade Advantage Program Terms and Conditions

    1. The following terms and conditions ("Terms and Conditions") apply to all offers (each an “Offer” or a “Bid”) made by you (“Guest”, “you”, “passenger”) to NCL Corporation Ltd. (“Norwegian Cruise Line”, “we”, “us”) for an opportunity to upgrade from the class of service that was originally purchased for travel with Norwegian Cruise Line to a higher class of service (“Upgrade”). This Upgrade program gives you a chance to place an Offer on an opportunity to upgrade from the class of service already purchased. Your Offer is not final and binding unless and until Norwegian Cruise Line officially accepts it.

    2. You must be at least twenty one (21) years of age and able to enter into binding contracts. You shall be deemed to have the authority to act on behalf of and to bind the person or persons named or included on the Offer to these Terms and Conditions. Upgrade Offers are only valid for cabins that have already been purchased, either by you or someone on whose behalf you are bidding for the Upgrade.

    3. First, as a prerequisite to the ability to make an Offer, you must receive an invitation (“Invitation”) from Norwegian Cruise Line. Sending an Invitation to anyone and at any time is entirely within Norwegian Cruise Line’s sole discretion.

    4. Upon receipt of an Invitation, you may submit a Bid on up to two categories higher than your current class of service category for the original itinerary booked.

    5. Norwegian Cruise Line may accept your Bid any time before the sail date. In the event Norwegian Cruise Line accepts your Offer, your credit card will be charged the full amount immediately upon acceptance. The total amount that you must pay to us will be disclosed to you prior to your submission of your Offer.

    6. Once your Bid is accepted, the upgrade amount paid is final and non-refundable.

    7. If you make a change to your itinerary after your Bid has been accepted, your Bid will be cancelled, will not be transferred to your new itinerary and the upgrade amount paid is non-refundable.

    8. If your reservation includes multiple passengers (between 2 and 9 passengers), the purchase price you accept will be per passenger but only for the first and second passenger on the reservation.

    9. If your reservation includes only one person, the guest will be charged based on double occupancy.

    10. Norwegian Cruise Line reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to decide whether or not to accept your Offer, and it makes no representation that any Guest will be upgraded regardless of whether or not cabins are available in the category for which an Offer is being made.

    11. If you purchase an Upgrade, the conditions of your original cruise reservation will remain in effect following the Upgrade. This includes conditions pertaining to cancellation, penalties, and changes.

    12. If you have purchased Norwegian Cruise Line’s Travel Protection on your current booking, you will be automatically charged to cover the Upgrade cost. For more information please visit https://www.ncl.com/freestyle-cruise/booksafe#pricing

    13. The Upgrade does not include any additional promotions. If you purchase an Upgrade, Norwegian Cruise Line cannot guarantee a specific cabin number assignment within the upgraded category. Your cabin number will depend on space availability. You may revise or cancel your Offer through the hyperlink on the offer email before 48 hours of your departure, provided that your Offer has not already been accepted by Norwegian Cruise Line and provided your credit card has not been charged. However, if your Offer is accepted before you cancel or amend your Offer, you are legally bound to complete payment for the price stated in your original Offer.

    14. If you are currently in a ‘Spa’ cabin and submit an Offer to upgrade to a higher category, we cannot guarantee that you will be assigned to another ‘Spa’ cabin within the upgraded category. If your Offer is accepted and you do not get assigned to another ‘Spa’ cabin, you will be forfeiting the complimentary access to the Spa.

    15. If your Bid is not accepted, you will travel in the category you originally purchased. The charge on your credit card may appear in the name of “NCL Reservations USD” / “NCL Reservations XX (currency)” / “Norwegian Cruise Line”. You agree that you cannot challenge or dispute a charge because the name appearing on the credit card statement is “NCL Reservations USD” / “NCL Reservations XX (currency)” / “Norwegian Cruise Line”.

    16. By purchasing this Upgrade, the passenger accepts all terms and conditions of the Upgrade Program.

    17. Norwegian Cruise Line reserves the right to modify and otherwise change these Terms and Conditions at its own discretion. Except as provided for in the immediately preceding sentence, no amendment, modification or waiver to these Terms and Conditions shall be binding on Norwegian Cruise Line unless made in writing and signed by an authorized officer of Norwegian Cruise Line.

  10. Good question. Since they only have CAS priority boarding @ 2 ports, I'm not sure how that will work.

Which ports? I know there is Priority Check In for CAS in Miami, but they never gave us priority boarding.

  11. Soooo very happy that you are back! We cannot wait to hear more your comparison/contrasts from this cruise to your previous cruise. Did you have the same category room? Did you try new restaurants? Did you hit another jackpot? Can't wait for more installments.:D:D:D

    Thank you so much!

Just a quick reply, yes, we had one of the secret mini-suites, but this time, 8122, right next door to our first one (8120). It had the connecting door to our original cabin and we ment the guys next door and neither of us heard each other.not saying we were boring or anything, but just never heard each other.

    No jackpot on this sailing.

Repeated all restaurants for the comparison which will be coming soon.

  12. So happy to have you back, JW. :)

I am sorry that you and Jerome had to not only deal with the plate thrower but also your dangerous dealings with Jimmy. So glad you are both okay! For the life of me, I still don't know why he was not tossed off the ship at St. Thomas.

    Tracy

Hey Tracy, those were only two of the many kooky wacky incidents that happened. In addition to Creepy, Smelly Saturday Night Live "Pat" (many of you will remember Postal Pat.........EEEWWWWEEEE) dressed in all biker leather regalia, there was the wretched foul smelling man, who actually looked homeless, dressed in army fatigues, copping already-smoked cigarette butts from the ash trays and receptacles, and then the piece de resistance, was the man dressed in his wife's clothing having dinner alone and his wig went awry. This was certainly just the tip of the ice berg. Oh My Gawd. Oh My Gawd. It was like, What did Norwegian put the sailing out on, Groupon? "If you are a wackadoodle, have I got a cruise for you!" We were told that there were almost 400 dockside on Standby, which would have been Employees, T/A's and Friends and Family. I sure hope that some of these knumbnuts weren't employees.

  13. Sorry we didn't get to meet you! We were going to do the vibe but got a last minute upgrade to Haven so didn't have the need... so the Tortola thing was someone getting stabbed? Th captain lied to us lol.. he said it was a heart attack and the person was revived by NCL staff. Looks like I missed a lot of drama! We did notice the guy in leather... thought they was weird...

The Captain didn't lie, he just was confused on the day in question. When the ship was in Nassau there was a passenger that went into cardiac arrest and was revived by the NCL Crew, and the awesome Medical Center on the Norwegian Escape took care of the passenger.

The stabbing was a whole different set of bananas on board.

  14. Oh Yee's of Little Faith!

I am very much alive and very much "Life Happens", sometimes unexpectedly, a whole bunch. I came back to several emergencies at my property, with several key staff members having to take time off because of a very catchy severe illness so I jumped in doing the job of three people all at once, including my own. What with the huge end of summer events that are incredible money makers for us in addition to a new Corporate client that is in the International Air Defense Industry, we have been entertaining Heads of State from all over the world, trying to keep the ones that dislike each other (and their staff) away from each other is not easy.

Jerome has been on a grueling flying schedule, internationally, along with hosting several 9/11 events in Florida (United Flight 93 Cee Cee Lyles) as well as in Boston (United Flight 175, Boston Logan International Airport Ceremony) plus in conferences in D.C. and in Orlando.

    Unexpectedly Life Happens.

I will say that one important fact on our dual Norwegian Escape sailings is that the first one was the best cruise of our life, on so many levels. The second one, well, given it was the first sailing with new Officers, that will eventually take over the ship come early 2017, the crew was not as sharp, nor in sync with each other, in my opinion, because the expectations could be different and the style of the new Officers had not been coalesced yet.

For some the cruise was wonderful, for us, menz a menz. It was a cruise and we were ecstatic to be on one. The events that happened to us, some not relevant to Norwegian, were so unusual, so crazy, that the passenger mix was the reason. Perhaps it was a cruise that was so undersold and given away on discount sites, that it was just a comical caricature of all walks of life. Unfortunately the ill-mannered out numbered us folks with tact and life's lessons filled with manners and respect.

I have been wrestling with the comparison review because in some ways, the differences were so stark that Jerome and I both wondered if we were on the same ship just weeks prior. What took place on the second sailing was a plethora of weirdness every day, both with passengers, crew missteps, and just outright dangerous behavior of unruly, drunk and disorderly events that boggled our minds.

Jerome and I could have been seriously injured by a crazy drunk lady hurling plates at us, as we ducked right in the nick of time as they crashed against the wall behind us, during a perfectly wonderful final night dinner at Teppanaki. I was mauled by "Jimmy" (Nearly thrown over the central atrium balcony in the casino) on the first night of the cruise as I was trying to protect the virtues of one of our solo traveling young lady Cruise Critic Roll Call members who was very imbibed and was seconds from being sexually assaulted. What saved me from going over the railing is that I told him I was not interested in the young lady because I am gay and then he indicated he would allow me to perform "favors" to him for $500. This allowed the young woman to escape and hurriedly return to her cabin. Pahleese.

This same boy went on to trash the ship every night, by harassing young ladies with his "Posse" in tow, breaking the glass door in the smoking lounge, jumping off the 17th floor ledge into the pool on the 16th floor, doing drugs, and being caught doing a variety of drugs and smoking in his cabin....so Security confined him to quarters and he escaped by climbing to another cabin via the balcony and exited unnoticed. Nightmare.

There is more, not so funny, and believe me, I have tried to compose something uniquely funny and hilarious about these crazies, but I end up tossing it. These folks were outright Looneytoons.

There is lots more. However, for those naysayers who may think that it is relatively easy to sit and compose a story, albeit, for free I might add, I do this because it is fun, not an obligation. It takes hours to compose a single chapter. I am thankful for the following, I always have been. But I still have other responsibilities to attend to, which pay the rent. So please give me a little leeway.

I am processing several changes to already composed chapters and will be posting them forthright, as soon as is humanly and humanely possible to do. Life is returning to a somewhat semblance of order so I can return to entertaining my many loyal and trusted followers. It gives me great pleasure to do so.

I realize that the new crew, which is the permanent replacement crew for the Norwegian Escape in 2017, will eventually get their barrings and leave their marks on service, consistency and quality. I can not fault the crew for the majority of our experiences. Some, very much so, yes. Most, though, are not at all the fault of the cruise line. This cruise was a Perfect Storm of if it's going to happen to "Trouble", it will happen to me. Trust me, it did.

That being said, we are sailing on the Norwegian Escape in March, 2017, once more, to finally gauge how the crew has adapted to these new Officers who will guide her through to the next chapter.

Here's to Jovo, Kevanc, Dominic, Melroy, Anthony, Rogeliza, Elizabeth, Diana, Darren, Pamela, Jose, St Clare, Leonora, Moises, Tyler, and so many more!

Here is a quick snapshot of the Officers on the Norwegian Escape:

  15. Wait, it's coming, I am just putting together some photos and additional information................just a little while longer............................promise. Here is a martini to get you started.....taken at The Holland House Hotel Bar in St Maarten..........lovely isn't it?

    14100492_10205877448770176_3185031679428080083_n.jpg?oh=e3f070c916cda6d15f3d8eb921790544&oe=583A8C64

It was tasty too.......and so were the three others I consumed whilst I was there......................what a remarkable day. I do so recommend the Holland House Hotel and Bar and Beach Soire in Grand Bay in St Maarten, Phillipsburg when you should/could/maybe/might be there. Faaaaaaaaaaaaaabulous Dahling.

  16. We love the idea of Vibe and hope we can get passes....we didn't learn about Vibe until after we had already checked in a picked our boarding time. So we went back and change the time and the earliest we could get is between 12:00 - 12:30. I'm curious...I'm sure it's not the same but how is the Ho2 during the day? It's adults only during the day correct?

    Thanks!

The best chance for VIBE is to arrive at the Port of Miami by 9:30AM and checked in by 10AM, securing Boarding Group Numbers 1,2,3 or 4. Then when boarding is called, proceed onto the ship and on The Norwegian Escape, VIBE tickets are purchased ($100) at Headliner's Club, located one deck below entry deck. (Please note that on Norwegian Breakaway and Getaway, these tickets are sold at revolving locations, sometimes at Guest Services or at The Excursions Desk for example, so always inquire when first getting on board where the passes are being sold).

For Guests sailing back to back, there currently is a policy in place that if you have purchased VIBE for your first sailing, you are given first preference to purchase them for your second sailing. That is what happened on our sailing, however I have no issue with this policy at all. That seems fair.

Again, to save the hundred bucks per person VIBE will cost you, utilize what I call "VIBE Lite" (The public area on Deck 19 located just outside VIBE with a bar and same water features that VIBE has) or SPICE H2O. At least in SPICE H2O you will be located right above the Buffet and a simple run for a "Fresh Cold Fruit Slices" plate is just 22 steps on the staircase away.
