  2. 12 oz cans of water are included in you HIA package. Beverage Package Content ( Thx @Crew News)
  3. Aww, what a compliment. To all who thanked me yesterday, I appreciate every one of you too. This is a wonderful, positive place to start my morning. For the garden club, you may remember that planted a wildflower garden in the spring. I believe I posted this photo. Here’s what it looks like now.Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good.
  4. I am happy that the “let us know” section of the Navigator App was read and that you received an apology. It has worked for me too. Now, I leave a comment every night, usually naming a crew member who has provided me with outstanding service. The crew really appreciates the positive comments too. Thank you for your well written trip report.
  5. I am fairly certain that it is Louie (Louis) sauce. Here’s the first recipe that pops up https://flavorthemoments.com/homemade-no-mayo-louie-salad-dressing/

    Penguins

Any recommendations for a penguin tour to Magdalena while in Punta Arenas?
  7. @GeorgeCharlie Thank you for your reply. I just read your “review” for the second time. Very informative. You are a great photographer.
  8. Lasagna Roll Ups are easy to make, bake quickly and are easy to serve with meatsauce, ricotta cheese, Parmesan, and mozzarella. You could use beef or Italian sausage or ground turkey or chicken to make the meat sauce. It’s a great make-ahead meal and freezer food. Spinach Artichoke Lasagna Roll Ups I love spinach and artichoke dip so this recipe caught my eye. You combine spinach, artichokes, ricotta, Parmesan, egg, garlic, salt and black pepper to fill the rolls and top with an easy homemade marinara sauce. I currently have an abundance of zucchini. I’m going to try these Zucchini Lasagna Roll ups. By skipping the traditional lasagna noodle, this recipe is low-carb, gluten-free, & keto-friendly zucchini lasagna roll up. I’ve enjoyed finding recipes for the meal of the day for the past month but tomorrow, I will turn the reins back over to Debbie. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good
  9. @kazu I know the shrimp cocktail sauce you are talking about and will get the sauce recipe when we are on the Rotterdam in 43 days!
  10. @kochleffel I was on the cruise with @kazu last November and had a fabulous time. Excellent service, great fixed seating in the MDR, no problems with our cabin. We are booked on her again in February for a 22 day South America and Antarctic cruise. @ger_77 Sauce with which shrimp dish? I often order shrimp and will ask for the recipe. I asked for the recipe for a mushroom soup once, they gave it to me but it made several gallons🤣
  11. Is this the pier where the HAL ship the Oosterdam will dock? Are other piers or tenders sometimes used?
  12. You will be much more successful using Uber/Lyft from the port to BWI
  13. @marcyjane I responded to your other post. I live in Baltimore. I can give you first hand, current advice about the area. Please just ask. I saw you like antiques, you may enjoy Fells Point.
  14. @marcyjane Your hotel is in an area called the Inner Harbor East. There are plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby. I recommend walking along the waterfront promenade to Fells Point the day you arrive. Generally safe if you stay south and east of your hotel. Train tickets from Penn Station in Baltimore to Union Station in DC will be cheaper if you book ahead. MARC trains are cheaper than Amtrak. Use Uber/Lyft for transport to and from train station.
  15. Looking for a tour to see the penguins on Magdalena. I want to avoid the public ferry. The Oosterdam arrives in Punta Arenas at 10, departs at 10. Does anyone have any personal experience with any tour companies? Has anyone used Fiordos Del Sur? My concern with the company is that we need to prepay and if the ship doesn’t make the port, no refund is given.
  16. A tostada has a pretty simple construction: it's like a taco, but flat. It's usually made with a fried corn tortilla, topped with refried beans, shredded cheese, salsa and other toppings. Anything that could go in a taco could also go on a tostada, so you can have fish tostadas, shredded chicken tostadas, or beef tostadas. Today we have Black Bean Tostadas. Quick and Easy Black Bean Tostadas These black bean tostadas are perfect for a quick and easy weeknight meal. They're made with homemade refried black beans, corn tortillas, queso fresco, lettuce, and Mexican crema. Black Bean Tostadas with Summer Vegetables This recipe includes instructions to pan-fry them or toast them in the oven. The toppings are up to you, but use your summer veggies, grilled corn, chopped tomatoes, scallions, cilantro, avocado too. A recipe for pickled onion is included. Black Bean Tostadas with Fajita Vegetables I like that this recipe uses fajita style veggies and includes a recipe for chili lime cabbage slaw. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good.
  17. We were on the Rotterdam in February for 10 days, ate all our breakfasts in CO and dinner there 8 of the 10 nights. We asked to be seated in the same section with the same waiter every meal. We received extraordinary service. I gave additional tips to the waiter $20, his asst. $10, beverage runner $10 and hostess $10. They all worked as a team; they quickly learned our likes and dislikes; we were served quickly and could not have had a better time experience. I did not tip the maitre d because he did nothing to add to our service. Additionally, I sent a message using the Navigator app every evening, highlighting one of the people who worked in CO. I complimented the person by name and listed the specific things they had done to improve my experience on HAL. Those comments make a big difference to the crew. Several of them thank me profusely.
  18. I suggest you call HAL’s Personal Cruise Consultant number 1-800-355-3017 and just stay on the line if you don’t already have a PCC or call your travel agent to select a cabin.
  19. Welcome home @dfishand @StLouisCruisers I’m going to stick around for a few days to give Debbie time to settle back into life on land. Shawarma is a lot like a gyro, kind of like a taco, but so different in many ways. Shawarma is thinly sliced cuts of meat: chicken, beef, goat, lamb, or sometimes turkey, rolled into a large piece of flatbread or pita that has been steamed or heated. Inside the pita, hummus, tahini, pickles, vegetables, or even french fries are added. Think of shawarma as a Middle Eastern-style taco or burrito. Shawarma is made by placing raw meat on large, rotating cone towers. As it rotates, the meat is cooked by a heat source that is located behind the actual cone. The meat slowly falls off or is thinly sliced by a chef with a large knife. It can take several hours to fully cook. It's really hard to duplicate the taste of authentic shawarma without a tower. You can come close, but there is still that "something" that is missing. For today’s recipes, when buying your meat, dark meat (thigh meat) is the best for shawarma, but white meat will work, too. Ask your butcher or supermarket meat department to slice it very thinly. Ideally, the meat will be thinner than cutlets. Chicken Shawarma This recipe marinates the chicken and cooks it on the stove top or BBQ. It includes a recipe for the yogurt sauce. It suggests serving it as a wrap or a Shawarma plate with rice and salads on the side. This Chicken Shawarma recipe roasts the chicken on a sheet pan in the oven after marinating. How to Make the Perfect Chicken Shawarma Recipe I found this article from The Guardian very interesting but of course, I like to read about food. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good.
  20. This simple and delicious Shrimp Taco Salad can easily be whipped up in under 30 minutes and is topped with a creamy cilantro lime dressing that sounds delicious. It uses medium shrimp which makes them bite sized in the salad. You could use taco seasoning packets, but instead try a handful of simple spices: chili powder, garlic powder, oregano, cumin, paprika and just a touch of cayenne. Full of flavor and packed with black beans, avocado, cheese and other favorite toppings. Shrimp Taco Salad with Homemade Pico de Gallo I think the fresh salsa would really make this salad . It also includes recipes for three different types of dressings: buttermilk ranch, avocado salsa verde and honey sriracha lime Shrimp & Avocado Taco Salad This recipe begins by describing the chef’s experience at a resort with other food bloggers. They made these tacos in their villa's kitchen with shrimp, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, black beans, tortilla chips, salsas, and “the most buttery-tasting California avocados I have ever had in my life, then each went to town concocting our own custom taco salad. The experience reminded me that dinner doesn’t have to be complicated to be completely satisfying.” Skip down to the bottom if you just want the recipe. The avocados are what sold me on this recipe. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good.
  21. Cooking meals on a sheet pan is clearly trending. I frequently combine a protein and the vegetables I have in my refrigerator with some herbs and olive oil and roast everything together in the oven. With its vast real estate and baking vessel, it also works as a rustic serving dish. It’s a win-win for all parties involved, particularly the clean-up crew. Sheet Pan Nachos from Damn Delicious Brown ground beef and garlic; stir in taco seasoning. Place tortilla chips in a single layer onto the baking sheet. Top with ground beef mixture, black beans, corn and cheeses. Bake. Top with tomato, onion, jalapeno, sour cream and cilantro. How easy is that? Chicken and Black Bean Sheet Pan Nachos This recipe contains instructions for making home-baked tortilla chips but you can always just open a bag. It uses canned refried black beans and whole black beans, mexi-corn , monterey jack & cheddar cheese blend, pico de gallo, chopped cooked chicken and jalapenos. It is topped with guacamole, sour cream, salsa and hot sauce. Sheet Pan Nachos with Homemade Cheese Sauce The homemade cheese sauce in this recipe looks delicious. Of course you could always melt some Velveeta. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good
  22. Tuscan food is based on the idea of poor cooking. This means simple meals that are inexpensive and could easily be made in large amounts. It is not elaborate or complicated and uses high quality ingredients and natural flavors. Lots of garlic and herbs and spinach and sun-dried tomatoes. This Creamy Tuscan Garlic Shrimp is just that. Simple, fresh, full of flavor and can feed a lot. It is easy to double and feed any more as well. Easy Creamy Tuscan Shrimp is made with garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, and basil is rich, decadent, and ready in about 15 minutes. Creamy Tuscan Garlic Shrimp is a very similar recipe but parmesan is added to the sauce. I’m a believer that cheese makes everything taste better. Low carb Creamy Tuscan Shrimp This recipe says Keto Friendly. It is very similar to the other recipes except it suggested using cherry tomatoes instead of sundried ones. All of these sauces look delicious to me. If you don't like shrimp , I bet it would taste good with chicken too Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good
  23. Chow mein is a Chinese dish made from stir-fried noodles with vegetables and sometimes meat or tofu. Remember you can add your favorite protein to any of these recipes for Copycat Panda Express Chow Mein Panda Express Chow Mein Copycat (less oil) has about half the oil of the actual Panda Express Chow Mein. Cabbage, celery and onion sautéed and tossed with a soy and oyster sauce mixture. Dry Yakisoba noodles are rehydrated and used. It’s easy to make; there are only a few ingredients and really just a couple of steps. Panda Express Chow Mein (better sauce) This simple sauce is made by whisking together the soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and white pepper. This recipe uses Yakisoba noodles which are ramen-style noodles you can find in the refrigerated section of your grocery store Here is more traditional recipe Chow Mein, 炒面 which looks better to me than the copycat recipes. Noodles used in classic chow mein are Chinese egg noodles. This recipe uses bok choy, bean sprouts and fresh chilies, but suggests you just open your fridge and choose whatever is available at the moment: celery, cabbage, carrot, snow peas, baby corn, bamboo shoot, bell pepper, just to name a few. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good
  24. Have you joined your Roll Call? Excellent answers to questions such as these can usually be found there. I do not feel like upgrading to the Elite package is worth it. If I occasionally order a drink over the Signature package limit , I just pay the difference so if it $1 over the limit, I am charged $1.18 including the18% service charge. Pina Coladas with alcohol are part of the Signature drink package
  25. Halibut is a large flatfish in the flounder family. It includes three different species: Pacific, Atlantic, and Greenland halibut (also called turbot). They live and feed on the bottom of the seabed. Pacific halibut is the largest species of flatfish. It is native to the North Pacific Ocean and it is fished by commercial, recreational, and subsistence fishermen. Huge Pacific halibut, sometimes called "barn doors," can attain a length of more than 8 feet and a width of more than 5 feet. Halibut are born swimming like salmon, with eyes on either side of their head. As they grow, one eye migrates to the right side and the young halibut begin swimming sideways, with both eyes on the top of their bodies. Their large size and delectable meat make them a popular and prized target for both sport and commercial fishermen. U.S. wild-caught Pacific halibut is a smart seafood choice because it is sustainably managed and responsibly harvested under U.S. regulations. Atlantic halibut (Hippoglossus hippoglossus) range from Virginia in the US all the way to Disko Bay in Greenland. There is also halibut in the eastern Atlantic, but they are managed separately. Grilled Halibut with Tomatoes and Hearts of Palm is another recipe from Bon Appetit, Here is the recipe for those who can’t get past the firewall. Cooking fish doesn't need to be intimidating. In fact, few things could be simpler—or more rewarding. For meaty steaks of swordfish, albacore, and halibut, all you need is a kiss of high heat from a grill or cast-iron pan and a simple vinaigrette. Zesting citrus directly onto your food means no wasted precious aromatic oils and zero chance of the zest drying out before you use it. ¼ cup olive oil, plus more for grill and drizzling 1 lemon 4 (5–6-ounce) skinless, boneless halibut filets Kosher salt, freshly ground pepper 2 pounds mixed heirloom tomatoes, sliced ½ cup sliced drained hearts of palm Torn basil leaves (for serving) Step 1 Prepare a grill for medium heat; oil grates. Finely grate 1 tsp. lemon zest directly onto halibut and lightly drizzle with oil; season with salt and pepper. Grill halibut, turning once, until browned on both sides and just opaque in the center, about 5 minutes. Step 2 Meanwhile, combine tomatoes, hearts of palm, and ¼ cup oil in a medium bowl; squeeze in 2 Tbsp. juice from lemon and toss to combine. Season with salt and pepper. Step 3 Toss basil into tomato salad. Serve halibut with tomatoes and dressing spooned over. Grilled Halibut with Charred Tomato Vinaigrette This is a perfect summertime dinner which takes advantage of peak tomato season. The sweet cherry tomatoes are lightly charred to give the vinaigrette a smoky flavor. Grilled Halibut with Tomato and Caper Sauce This sauce is made by sauteing onions, fennel and garlic, then adding tomatoes, wine, stock and capers. The fish is then grilled and served atop the sauce. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good.
