  1. Thank you Rich, Sandi, Vanessa, Dixie, Ann, Debbie, and all other contributors for the Thursday (or Friday Junior per my morning news) thread. Started out with rain but should be nice later today. I've only been to Norway on the Elegant Explorer in 2011 and Trondheim was not one of the ports. I think I'll pass on the days. Slept pretty well last night. Wishing Terry a productive visit to the Cardiologist. Roy
  2. I'm surprised Easter Island has never been port of the day but it's a fascinating stop. For those in the US, Good Morning America will have some reports from there this morning. Roy
  3. Thank you. It sounds like recovery from pneumonia is a very slow process, at least several months and I am still moving at glacial speed and probably adapting more than improvement. I've also had an issue with an infected and swollen foot, but saw the podiatrist yesterday and that seems to be within control. I've cancelled cruises through the summer but have a couple still booked for the last quarter. Roy
  4. Rabbit, Rabbit,White Rabbit. Thank you Rich, Sandi, Vanessa, F&B ladies, and all our contributors, especially the newcomers. I think I slept well last night and even a bit later than planned. A cold start to the day but I hope for some warmup, but probably not enough to go with a light jacket. Roy
  5. @grapau27 I think the foot changes very quickly and randomly depending on my activities, so I don;t think photos would be very useful. @aliaschief I have no idea why this happened but I don;t think it was the fall. I expect somehow related to the pneumonia. Roy
  6. Back from the Podiatrist with no earth shaking revelations. He did make some suggestions for self care and wants to see me again in 2 weeks. He did think the swelling looked a bit better than last week and has suggested elevation, epsom soaks, and probably a change from cream antibiotic to liquid or spray. Roy
  7. A couple of photos from Christchurch which I passed through on the way back from the Antarctic Center. The still (at least until recently) untouched Cathedral ruins: And the innovative temporary replacement, using cardboard as the primary structural members: Roy
  8. Happy Tuesday and thank you Rich, Sandi, Vanessa and F&B ladies as well as all the others who make this a special place. While heavy snows are just north of us today in Maryland looks like a pretty nice day as last night's rains have left and it should be around 50 by the time I leave for the Podiatrist. Been to Christchurch a couple of times but primarily to the Antarctic Center. I know @JazzyV posted pictures of the place last time that would be very much like mine. Roy
  9. @Safety Squirrel so glad you posted on Churchill. Way back (I think 1994) I had a unique tour there. At the time there was a "Tundra Buggy Lodge" , an elevated vehicle that went into the prime bear viewing area with an included dormitory. While others were up at the crack of dawn to travel out to the tundra we slept a bit later and were still up viewing for a while as the bears were most active and then perhaps about 9 parked the lodge for a hearty breakfast, then a bit more viewing (although the bear's peak activity was past) and continued to relax and view throughout the day. Sadly, I don't think the lodge is still in use. Roy
  10. I think about the same but I'm a very poor judge of that. I only have a clue when I take my socks off at night or put them on in the morning. The only other time I notice is when I change to outdoor shoes or back to indoor crocs. It felt about the same as usual today. Roy
  11. Happy Monday, and thank you Rich, Sandi, Vanessa, and the F&B ladies. Polar Bears are magnificent and I've been lucky enough to see them in person a couple of times. 3AM curse came up again last night although I slept a couple of hours in front of the TV in the evening and think I slept pretty well before that. I see the podiatrist tomorrow afternoon. Roy
  12. Happy Sunday and thank you Rich, Sandi, Ann, Dixie, Debbie, Graham, and all the rest of you who make the Fleet Report and Daily a special place. I slept well last night but it looks like my use of a light jacket Friday was a one and done for the forseeable future. Been to Safaga just once, on the Silver Whisper, for me a totally forgettable cruise and port. It's the gateway to the Valley of the Kings and by the time Silversea sent me my documents the deadline for booking tours there had passed. Safaga itself has nothing to offer, A bit of a coincidence yesterday. My first cruise was in 1993 on the Carnival Fantasy, a 3-day getaway with the only stop at Nassau. Across the Dock from us was the Cunard Crown Jewel. It is now MS Gemeni, and I learned that it is now chartered in the Med but currently housing Turkish refugees. Roy
  13. If you're still on line can you change the title to Feb 26? Roy
  14. Strong spaced toots. Thanks Leann, Lou & Dave, and fellow addicts. Roy
  15. Thank you Rich, Sandi, Ann, Vanessa, Dixie, Debbie, and also to all our loyal dailyites, Slept well last night but the swelling in my left foot is still bothersome. A cold day today. Roy
  16. So you attain your next age on my birthday. By common law one attains their next age on the last day at your old age. For Social Security purposes the best day to be born is the second of the month because you "attain" retirement age on the first and have a full month of eligibility for the month of your birth, Roy
  17. Hope that works. I've gone to extremes to avoid flying out of Baltimore for big cruises. In 2016 I had a major cruise on Crystal Symphony (Buenos Aires-Antarctica and up the South America West Coast to Miami. Rather than flying from Baltimore in mid-winter I went to New York 1/1 and boarded QM2 to Southampton, then transferred to Queen Victoria to Fort Lauderdale and flew a nonstop out of Miami, The day I would have flown from Baltimore got hit with 3 feet of snow, closing things down for a week. The only sign I saw of the storm was massive rebooking lines at Miami airport, A year later I had another itinerary out of Buenos Aires, cruises out of Buenos Aires on Crystal Serenity and Zaandam. I did fly that time but did it 2 weeks early, with a cruise on Koningsdam in between. I was willing to take a chance on missing the Koningsdam but not the 2 out of Buenos Aires, That one came off without a hitch. Roy
  18. Today is not my birthday. DB was born on Flag Day (14 June) and died Valentines Day 2021, exactly 4 months shirt if his 80th birthday (and Valentines Day is mostly spoiled in my family). I was born 23 June so yesterday I was exactly 4 months short of my 80th birthday, and today I am older than that now. Roy
  19. Happy Friday. Thank you Rich, Sandi, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, and all fellow Dailyites. Sandy, might your DS hunkered down at a hotel near the airport. Sounds like a potential attraction for me. I think I slept well last night and until 4 (I tend to be up for the first 4:30 newscast), although while I am aware of long sleepless periods I'm less aware of how much I am actually asleep. A couple of milestones today. It's the first anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine. Today also I am now older than my brother was when he died. Starting out warmer than yesterday but then it rose steadily to almost 80 while today the temperature will blip up a bit to 52 and then drop steadily to the 40's. Roy
