  1. Maritime Museum right on the waterfront isn't hard to get to or enjoy with limited mobility... can always take cab and there are places for lunch nearby. IMHO Peggy's Cove can be over rated and later in the cruising season you run risk of fog which rather dulls the experience. But renting a car to stay in town would be a lot of hassle, mainly because it's the downtown area with traffic, parking issues etc. Private tour would be the way to go

  2. What’s in Quebec City??

I took my son to Quebec City for 5 days when he was 12 years old in the '90s because I couldn't afford to go to France. The old town (upper and lower) ooze history and have things that would be interesting for the girls (buggy tour, tea at Frontenac). You can also go over to the Ile de Orlean which is just beautiful and offers up beautiful views of the city and St Lawrence. This itinerary is a good "painless learning" itinerary for older children to soak up some history and have fun doing it. I love Quebec (can you tell?) so would choose that itinerary. Not a ton of kids on this itinerary but HAL does roll up the rug early. I only go on them when it's a port intensive cruise because Im a night owl. I'd choose NCL for the ship but the itinerary is so good on this one. In Bar Harbor you can take them out with a lobsterman to set pots, go back and get them and that's pretty cool for kids.

  3. The route along the plains of Abraham where marathon route along river looks like it could be along area near port but it's in fact on a cliff above the river. There are a couple of ways to get to port including bridge from Ile d Orlean. I can't imagine a scenario where you would board the ship only to find out your tours had been cancelled due to the Marathon but if Celebrity online check in has a link where you can ask questions prior to boarding, you could use that.

Also, most cruise lines allow you to cancel a prebooked shore tour more than 24 hours out. Are you in Quebec beginning or end of cruise? If at the end you will have a lot of time on board to get this answered but otherwise Celebrity customer service may be able to help.

  4. If your tours are booked through the cruise line they will have planned around that. Those with independent tours could have a lot more hassle. From the map it looks like streets along perimeter of walled Old City will be along the route, but not the interior streets. Since tours will leave from dock area, which is in lower town, there shouldn't be difficulty getting into that area. Don't know what tours you are on but many don't even go into old city for long

  5. Wow. this is the first time i heard of a ship missing this port. I am surprised they can not dock early in Halifax and have an overnight stay instead

Ships skip ports due to weather, medical evacuations, mechanical issues etc.... not "all the time" but also not a rare occurrence. Safety is always first consideration. They may change an entire itinerary especially during hurricane season. There are two weather systems up that way that would not be great to sail into. Halifax is very protected harbor so hopefully you will have a wonderful day in that lovely city!

  6. The little dog is trained to alert the deaf person to sounds......such as a knock on the door, an alarm clock, etc. All things that aren't accommodated on a cruise ship. It's a legitimate service dog. And yes, service dogs do get breaks from 'working'....a romp on the beach would be a really fun one! For those who have therapy dogs and take them to hospitals, etc..they are NOT service dogs. I've seen people abuse the service dog requirement......it is specific to a disability defined by a Dr, and the dog provides an adaptive response for the disability. :)

If that was directed at me, no my "therapy dog" is not a service dog.. that's a complete other more advanced course! Lacie is having fun doing what she's doing. And I did not mean to imply Honey wasn't a legitimate service dog.. sheesh..:confused:

  7. Just off Royal and Kory Simon was in Crooners... our second cruise with him and it was a pleasant surprise! IMHO he's the best, very likeable, good entertainer, involves folks. Bar guys are great as well.. one has fabulous singing voice. Kory's on till Dec. 8 and then home till March when he's back on Royal.

  8. There was someone with a lap dog on our Royal Cruise last week. I was not aware dogs were allowed on cruise ships? I know some folks call them emotional therapy dogs but how can the poor dog relieve itself on the ship?

As I understand it from the guy's mother, the dog was a "seeing eye dog for the deaf"... which I've not heard of. The guy had hearing aids and I think was pretty good at lip reading, could definitely talk. She was a certified service dog. I have a certified therapy dog and am going to just ask about this because I'm curious and have never heard of a seeing eye dog for the deaf. She was very well behaved but ran like a banshee on the beach at Grand Turk .. very happy doggie to get down and play :)
