  1. You know that you'll need a cellular or wifi connection in order to validate the regional train ticket purchased on line, right?
  2. Yes, all seats on the Frecce trains are seat assigned so they only sell as many tickets as they have seats. Maybe you couldn't choose the seats due to the Me & You promotion?
  3. Also note that you chose Civitavecchia Porto, which means they will add 6 euro onto each ticket for the bus to the port. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of that.
  4. Okay, I just tried it again selecting first class, which right now is the same price as 2nd (9,90 euro), it also went through without a problem. Maybe try a different browser?
  5. I just went through it without a problem. When I clicked on the time from the results menu it had preselected super economy so I didn't do anything with that and simply clicked on continue. It went right to the passenger page. The class bit is up to you, but I really can't see the point. It's a really short ride on a nice train with assigned seats in every class.
  6. I don't know what caused the error, but once you've selected a ticket price, go to the bottom right and click on "continue" to get to the next step in the payment process.
  7. Also through a partner, Trenitalia offers a porter service in a few stations, Rome Termini and Venice Santa Lucia are fortunately on the list. This service also must be reserved in advance, something your hotel can do for you. The employees wear uniforms so there's no chance of being confused about who is authorized and who is not. Again, only in Italian: servizio portabagagli - Trenitalia
  8. There are options to make it easier. For example, Trenitalia has a cooperation agreement with a company called Zyppy to provide a baggage transfer service. They come and collect your bags at your hotel in Rome, then deliver them to your hotel in Venice. You just keep a small carry on with your critical items (medications, jewelry, electronics, etc.) I'm not certain if it arrives the same day or the next day, if the latter obviously you'd need to take overnight things as well. This service needs to be reserved a couple of days in advance, which is something the front desk or concierge at your Rome hotel could do for you. More info here, in Italian only, but google translate will make it clear: Bagaglio facile - Trenitalia
  9. Assuming this is the place: Home - Ristorante Le Bontà del Capo (lebontadelcapo.it) It's in Conca dei Marini, about eleven miles further east from Positano. From the marina in Sorrento this is about 21 miles, which doesn't sound like much but will take at least an hour and a quarter by car from Sorrento. A car service is really your only option, there are no ferries near here and even the Sita bus would still require a significant, steeply uphill (including stairs) walk from the bus stop.
  10. The nicest part of an overnight stay is not needing to rush back to the ship in the middle of the afternoon. Even if you want to return to the ship for dinner, you could still have pre-dinner drinks at Positano, enjoying the sunset. (Well, to be honest Positano is facing the wrong way for a sunset, but you'll still have the lessening of the light.) The ferries along the coast run through the end of October, weather permitting. Schedule here: Orari traghetti Travelmar - Traghetti veloci in Costiera Amalfitana Be sure to check this schedule again just before your trip to see if they have reduced the late day ferries. They do not run after dark.
  11. The rules for driving do not apply to professional drivers (car services or taxis) so that won't be an issue for them. As for how close they can get to the restaurant, it depends on the location. If the OP posts the name/address of the restaurant we can answer that.
  12. Well, you will be tendered into the same port that the ferry leaves from, so that part would be easy. At the other end, however, in Positano, unless your restaurant is near the waterfront you'd have a hike uphill. Here is a list of car services you can reach out to for quotes. A taxi will be far more expensive than a car service. http://www.transferelax.com/our-services.html http://sorrentocars.com/ https://www.guemartravel.com/ Sorrento Silver Star - Car Service - Private Driver - Amalfi Coast Tour
  13. When is this visit? And what are the hours of the visit? If the timing aligns it would be a lot less expensive and probably faster to take the ferry.
  14. You simply purchase a ticket to Civitavecchia. The change is not at Termini, generally the change will be at Roma Trastevere. It would be a huge waste of time to go all the way to Termini only to turn around and come back out.
  15. Lew, if you'd be willing I think it would be a big help to start a new thread and give a tutorial, or sorts, and answer questions about eSIMs. With the upcoming change for regional train tickets purchased on line requiring connection in order to be validated, this will be an ongoing and growing issue for travelers.
  16. Yes, you can buy your ticket at the airport train station, there are multi-language touch screen machines as well as a ticket office. The FCO ticket office is open every day from 6:45 to 21:32 (9:32 PM, an oddly precise time). Servizi in stazione Lazio - Trenitalia
  17. You could also take the train from Venice to Ravenna, then a taxi or shuttle bus from the train station to the port (about 12 km/8 miles). Yet another example of the misleading advertising in the cruise industry. Those of us who have been doing this for a while know to look up where the actual ports are, folks new to cruising don't necessarily know to do this. Some are more obvious than others (just find Florence on a map and you'd know the port is not close), other like Venice are not so obvious.
  18. More info on Caserta: Home - Reggia di Caserta (cultura.gov.it)
  19. I've only found the announcement page with the FAQs, here: Nuovo Biglietto Digitale Regionale - Trenitalia Unfortunately, I don't see anywhere that deals with the possibility of no wi-fi access. I would try the call center: Our Call Centres - Trenitalia Or maybe better the on-line form, which at least doesn't incur any charges (but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a response): Trenitalia - Area Clienti - Richiesta Assistenza TCom
  20. It goes on to say that you must be able to present your digital ticket, showing the green bar that shows it was activated, to the on board agent. Is it possible to get a screen shot of this, or would wifi be necessary? I'm not clear on that. (This is also in the FAQs under the heading "cosa devo presentare al personale di bordo quando effettua controlleria")
  21. Okay, after further digging around I found that check-in can only be done starting at 00:00 on the day of travel. La funzione di check-in è disponibile dalle 00:00 del giorno del viaggio e fino all’ora di partenza programmata del treno selezionato all’atto dell’acquisto: sul tasto è riportato il messaggio: «fai il Check-in e viaggia». The quote above is from the FAQs at the bottom of the announcement page, under the heading "Come faccio il check-in per attivare il mio biglietto?". Nuovo Biglietto Digitale Regionale - Trenitalia I would ask at guest services on your ship and see if they will let you access your e-mail from their computer to activate the tickets.
  22. Thanks for the heads up. I had not heard about this. Have you tried checking in for the trip now? I took a quick look at the new regulations and they say this started as of August 5th. They do say that once you check in you can't make any changes to the ticket, but since you don't intend to and were thinking you'd have to toss them out anyway, I'd try it before giving up on them entirely.
  23. Although Civitavecchia is a somewhat dull port town, there are a couple of things to see and a nice waterfront promenade to walk along (only about 600 meters/four-tenths of a mile in length, but better than nothing) and a decent sized daily market to wander around. 24. One or the other, but not both with such a short port day. Is this a Costa cruise? It really is unusually short for Naples. You could have a driver pick you up at the ship and head right to the Amalfi Coast. To avoid the slow drive back, you might consider having them drop you off at Sorrento at the end of the day and taking the ferry back to Naples.
  25. Genoa is popular this week! This does sound like an interesting alternative to the same old, same old that tends to happen in ports. All of the funicolari and elevators (I love how they refer to them as vertical systems) are free all of the time, the metro (subway) system is free during certain hours (between 10 AM - 4 PM and again from 8 PM - 10 PM), called an "experiment" on the city's web site.
