  1. I’m sorry that the weather has wreaked havoc with your cruise, especially given the distance you’ve traveled. I suspect something will be forthcoming from NCL by way of compensation. In the meantime, enjoy the unexpected time in New York. Plenty to do there! And enjoy your cruise — you still have some terrific ports.
  2. Good point. Apparently, though, according to this same guest, staff are walking on and off the ship, and the shops in Hamilton are open (at least from what they can see). Unfortunately, and as we all know, many cruise ship guests think they know better than the Captain when it comes to safety.
  3. Over on that other social media site, a very unhappy guest aboard the Insignia reports that they are all stuck indoors on the ship, docked in Hamilton. They said a rickety gangway is preventing anyone from disembarking, but I suspect there’s more to the story than that.
  4. The Insignia was going to leave today (earlier departure from Bermuda than scheduled). Sounds like that might not happen.
  5. I have found them many months later. I love finding them — always makes me smile.
  6. @cruisemom42 thanks for posting your objective review and letting folks here know about it. It was very helpful for those of us who are unfamiliar with Oceania. (FWIW, I thought you were given needless grief for posting your observation about the guest demographics.)
  7. Not outdoors and nothing accessible to guests. (This is the Gem, one of the Jewel’s sister ships.)
  8. I’m posting this photo I took in January in the Canal so that @Steve in Omaha can see the bow opened to guests. It is normally an area restricted to crew. @BirdTravels is correct that the railings are very high.
  9. I don’t know the details yet, but I’m happy to report that my friend on the Insignia now has her luggage! They are docked in Hamilton and were supposed to have had three days in Bermuda, but will be leaving tomorrow. I’m guessing that’s weather related; at least they will have had a day there.
  10. Don’t forget the worst Ruby Tuesdays on the face of the earth.
  11. The ships that are waiting to transit the Canal are commercial ships that do not have reservations. Container ships are being given priority. Cruise ships not only have reserved slots – – which costs a great deal – – but they also pay extra to ensure a daytime transit.
  12. Understandable. Have money out for a nice tip and make sure you see the porter put your bags on a cart for the Escape.
  13. Yes, I noticed that. There are certainly other options for your day in Panama.
  14. There is only one Canal. But there is a new set of locks that opened in 2016 to accommodate the larger neo-Panamax ships. The Bliss will use the new locks.
  15. HAL has cancelled some partial Canal transits for 2024. It did not give a reason, but that hasn’t stopped some folks on CC from deciding this was due to the drought. And this is how rumors and speculation spread on the internet as fact.
  16. Hmm .., I see some folks have mistakenly called the sweets “macrons.” Here’s a handy way to remember what’s correct:
  17. We have the $2.99 upgrade offer as well (one device) for our NE/Canada cruise in Sept. 2024. I’ve snapped that up for both of us.
  18. Both ships should be in Bermuda tomorrow, although I’ve just learned that the Insignia is skipping St. George.
  19. Yikes is right. Thanks for explaining where the ships were. (And yes, good that it didn’t wind up on Viking. 🙃)
  20. I don’t think this happens very often, but it happened yesterday at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal, where both the NCL Joy and the Oceania Insignia were leaving for Bermuda. A friend on the Insignia never got her checked bag last night, and learned that it had been loaded onto the Joy. (I have no other details yet, but it’s hard to know how that happened.) The Joy is scheduled to dock at the Dockyard tomorrow, while the Insignia will be in St. George. I sure hope the Insignia has arranged to pick up the misdirected luggage.
  21. No need for a shorex. We toured the fortress on our own during our second visit to Cartagena. Take a cab from just outside the cruise terminal, take a cab back. Given the heat and humidity, start out early in the day.
  22. It would be unnecessary and redundant to have sub forums. Much if not most of what is discussed in this forum applies to guests in whatever category of cabin they have booked. Right now, because of the number of changes Celebrity is making, we are seeing perhaps some more discussions about the Retreat; this will settle down. In any event, I think it would be terribly foolish to have sub forums and would waste the time not only of CC members but also of CC moderators.
