  1. Two questions if I may...

    1. Is there a way to tell if a certain cabin will have the bed closest to the door vs the balcony? I've seen pics of both arrangements, but can't figure out how to tell which would be which. I think I'm partial to having the bed nearest the balcony - if for nothing else than getting into the closet more easily.

    2. I noticed from the balcony photos that the immediate view down is not the water, but some white rooftop. Is that around the entire ship - is there no clear, unobstructed view of the water?

    Thanks :)

  2. If I may.. while we're all eagerly awaiting the next installment of Gambee's review (Oh hell, it's not just a review, it's the next great travel novella ;)) I was hoping some of you might answer a question for me.

We have only ever cruised Carnival, and we are finally branching out and are planning the Breakaway for 2014. I've always found managing our bookings with Carnival very easy. They have a webpage that you can check at any time, which gives you the current cruise rate portion of your cabin category; should you be so lucky as to see the price drop, you can simply fill out a short form and apply for the lesser fare - easy peasy. So, my question is - does NCL have such a thing, or must you always contact your TA or your NCL reservationist?

Thanks for allowing the commercial interruption :p

  3. All seats are now $39.99 and are on a first come first serve basis.

Sorry to break-in... I've been reading everything I can on the Breakaway as our family is planning a cruise for next year. This will be the first NCL cruise for any of us. I've only been on two cruises and as you can see in my signature, they've both been on the Miracle - I need to get out more

Anyway... not to sound too ignorant, but ... you have to PAY for the SHOWS?

PS - LOVE this review Gambee.. I catch up during my lunch hour and first thing each morning :D

  4. Might be a silly question, but ...are there dresser drawers in the cabins??? I was reading a posting in the review section of Cruise Critic, and the person said there was only a closet and hangers and no drawers. Seemed kinda crazy but I figured I better verify - I can't imagine hanging up ALL of my clothes or living out of a suitcase.

  5. Aren't I a lucky girl to have found both your's and Gambee's Breakaway reviews :) I've been peeking in (I usually frequent the CCL boards) looking for info and reviews for the Breakaway, and low and behold... the two best reviews I've ever read. Awesome awesome awesome :)

We're in the middle of planning a cruise for next July - we're partial to sailing out of NY, but we've exhausted the itinerary for the time of year we can sail. Although the price is higher than we're used to, and having only the one port, but it seems the ship is worth it.

I can't wait to read the rest.

  6. As mentioned above, it will depend on the day of the week you'll be coming back. Last cruise we came back into NY on a Monday morning - that and the fact that there was an extra strong current on the Hudson that day, and as the captain was trying to line-up vertically with the pier slip, the current was pushing the ship (Miracle) into the pier faster than he could get the aft-end around. It took 2 tugs (and a third on its way) to get between the pier and the ship and push the back end out so that a second (and third) attempt could be made. We had a birds-eye view from out balcony; it was very exciting to watch, but had we been needing to catch a flight I'd have been nervous.

  7. But I'm curious, did you ever notice, especially during meal times that the room smelled like grease? We had to have the steward de-odorize the room daily as it smelled like I was frying up fried chickens in there, LOL!:D

Funny that you say that.. we weren't in this cabin, but had 15 cabins in and around the aft section of the veranda deck of the Miracle. The folks in our group who had cabins on the port side of the hallway all made mention of it smelling "like food, or garbage" at various times of day. Now we were on the starboard side (7325) and never noticed anything, but now that you said that... I wonder if that was the same odor they experienced.

  8. Glad to read I'm not the only one that needs a fan. I sleep with a fan 365 days a year.. I'm guessing it's the white-noise, but I like the moving air.. I like the breeze. I thought I'd have a problem sleeping on our first cruise, but there is a low hum to the ship.. or maybe it was the AC... or the maragaritas ;), but I slept like a rock!

  9. I've worked for an Allergy/Asthma group for the past 14 years, and oddly enough I've never heard of allergy drops. All of our immunotherapy patients receive shots and/or oral medications. Wow, it's true... you do learn something new everyday
