  1. Tom,

Inside and Oceanview are eligible for $50 OBC but would not make sense for you because the cost of your cruise has gone up.

To apply this to an existing booking prior to final payment due date they will adjust your cabin price to what the price is now. For those who's cruise prices have dropped or stayed the same as when they booked, it's a great deal as they will get the offer plus a lower cruise price! For those of us where our price has gone up, it's really no deal.

    Hope this helps!

Good, bad, or indifferent, the offer closed yesterday

  2. Life jackets have been in our stateroom on all Celebrity ships we have traveled on, most recently on Reflection. Good to know they are also at the muster stations. Currently i am reading Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania. Much has been learned about life boats and life jackets since then!

And U boats, too. Sounds like an interesting book. Was it carrying war supplies?

  3. It would be tempting because I don't require sun on the balcony, but it is nice to have sun for a bit o the day. Those hump cabins are nice but the ones we've had also had an extended overhang. If that were the case with yours, I'd go for the Aqua. But if there is no overhang and you don't care about Blu (it's OK but not great for my taste) then I'd hump my way across the Pacific. Hope this makes sense

  4. Thank you, OP. Without your flagging this, I more than likely would have missed it until sometime tomorrow morning, long after the offer closed. We now have $1600 of OBC, far more than we can spend on a 10 day cruise. How I wish I could use it to reduce the cost of this overpriced cruise. Fortunately, $650 is refundable or my wife can find a way to squander the whole amount. Thanks again

  5. Hi - I live on the IOW & you can also do this yourself. From Southampton you can get to the island by fast catermeran (20 mins) or the car ferry (1 hour) which runs frequently - you can book/view the time tables at IOW Ferries. There is a decent bus service which also has an open top bus around the island in the summer which is fun Island Breezer

I am not planning to be in Southampton in the foreseeable future, but I surely do appreciate your information. Thanks, I look forward to putting it to use some day.

  6. Might be nice to go to Easter Mass in Barbados.

    http://catholicbb.org/

Indeed, it would be nice. I've jumped ship to attend Mass in various islands even when a priest was on board. In Nassau it's a pretty good cab drive away and then there's always a chance the driver won't return in an hour. Mine always has, fortunately. In Grenada it involves a hike up a rather steep hill, so one does his penance, too.:p I think it is in St Kitts that the church is an easy, flat walk through the main shopping area. In St Lucia I had no luck in finding one, probably my fault for not trying hard enough. Of course, missing Sunday Mass is not an option while in port, and it is worth the effort on several levels. I always let Celebrity know how much I appreciate having services on board.

  7. Muushka, I doubt that it's wise to publicize such information on a site monitored by Celebrity. That X is probably well aware of the many ways to sneak contraband on board really is beside the point. With so many drink packages being offered, I don't see the need to bring much on board anymore. DW and I get a glass of wine and take it back to the cabin as necessary. No mess, no fuss.

I am amused that beer can't be taken on board. A 12 bottle was confiscated on one cruise; my one bottle of wine waltzed through

  8. Totally not true. We fly with a suitcase each and YES we still take formal. Just depends what you take and how you pack.

Totally not true to the extent that most of us pack to fill the suitcase. We did 23 days on the Eclipse in December. I did not pack a tux, and I saved considerable space in not taking my rather large and heavy dress shoes. But what I did do is fill the void with two sports jackets and several extra pairs of slacks. I always wear a blazer on the plane with dressy slacks (yes, I am that old:D). Did I save any weight? Not an ounce. Our two rollers came in a 50#, just as they always did. I doubt we are the exceptions.

The good thing was that on elegant chic night, virtually every one, young and old, dressed quite well.

The people who say "You can still wear a tux" are missing the obvious point of sticking out like a sore thumb in a sea of chinos and sports shirts. No thanks.

  9. It's threads like these that I feel there is a great need for sarcasm font.

    :)

And it's threads like these that make me realize again how important it is to have standards in life and how necessary it is to make judgments when the occasion demands.

  10. I think they are nonrefundable if you take the OBC on the current cruise, which would make sense. When we. booked a future cruise onboard Millennium we elected to take the book on board credit on the cruise we were booking. Our deposit is fully refundable.

I'm assuming we're all Americans, but when I read the fine print on a flyer on board, I did come away with the impression that the deposit might not be refundable under at least certain conditions. When I finally got around to booking a future cruise, I made sure the statement clearly said my deposit would be refundable if I cancel before final payment. Our British friends on the same cruises put up $600 each which they said they would lose, if they cancelled. Ouch.

  11. A little over a year ago, I cruised 4 weeks consecutively on Reflection with the first 2 weeks in Blu, and the second 2 in the MDR. I was surprised to discover the food was the same (good), merely different presentation and names. Breakfast in Blu is lovely, but I actually like room service better (I'm a bit of a slug in the morning). And as someone has already mentioned, you can write-in almost anything on the breakfast door hanger. The shower in AQ is nice but not worth $2K. ;)

I'm surprised you were surprised. Not everyone loves Blu and for good reasons. The food in the MDR is as good; the ambiance we liked in Blu was lacking recently on the Eclipse, and the service could be non existent. I've said it more than once but a good balcony and specialty restaurants are the best combination. The Aqua foot stools, showers, and robes are nice but surely not worth the money. Breakfast in Blu? I at there perhaps three times in a 23 day cruise, my wife not once. For us it's not even a consideration. Check the prices for Aqua cabins over Christmas 2016, but be sure you're sitting when you do.:p.

  12. Hey there now - don't go slamming farmers - that food on your table is out of their field. All three of my children farm (15,000 acres) and they certainly know how to dress properly.

So the important question is this -- what color was the tractor? If it wasn't green, well then THAT is just wrong. LOL ;)

I know you know I was not knocking farmers. My wife was raised on one and still owns it. She has relatives in central Illinois who are big time corn and bean people, but some of them would feel comfortable on a ship only in flannel shirts and work pants. So they don't cruise

I note that the censor is out and doing his dirty work over nothing. Sad.

  13. If you don't want to follow the dress code then don't go. Why do you think that a saying exists "no shoes no shirt no service". this is a formal dining room. Give your head a shake ! Too many people try to push the boundarys and this is what you get. Uninformed out of touch people defending others to wear inappropriate footwear. The foot swelling is no excuse. Does that mean you wear flip flops to work ? Smarten up people , this is not carnival.

I would agree with much of what you say, but that battle has been fought and lost, as witnessed by the quote I made and you just cited. The yahoos have carried the day, and the only choice is to close an eye to it or stop cruising.

  14. Dear OP,

Don't you worry a bit about those flip flops. Nobody will notice, and surely no employee will have the nerve to turn you away. On a Eclipse cruise in December a man wore a flannel shirt and denim pants which looked like he had just parked his tractor on the third deck. This was in Blu and his costume served him well on more than one night. In the MDR at lunch there were any number of grown men wearing baseball caps at lunch. Maybe this is permitted by X; it certainly isn't permitted by general norms of dress. The times have changed but not for the better. You just might find yourself the paradigm of fashion compared to what others are wearing. Enjoy yourself as you flip X the middle toe. :)

  15. Hi All

We're sailing on Equinox in April and noticed there are quite a few cabins left in all categories but last week a lot of suites were suddenly available on the website. We're currently in A1 but thinking of upgrading to Sky Suite 1. Considered the RS but that went within a few days and was then weighing up the CS vs SS1 and decided not worth the extra for CS as no additional perks and we fancy the view from the aft SS1.

We've stayed in a SS2 previously which ended up being right underneath the outside of OceanView and we found it really noisy with people moving chairs all the time.

Looking at the photo's etc we're trying to decide which SS1 would be a good choice. Both SS1's are available on deck 6, 7 & 8 and one left on deck 9. From the photo's it looks like the one on deck 9 may have the port hole window obstructed slightly by the outside equipment.

Can anyone give any advice or recommendations of which deck may be the better choice for these SS1?

    Thanks

    Laura

7 or 8 is fine, Stay away from 6

  16. My advise is - if you are looking for specific item ,first look at your home stores. You may be surprised by much better deals at home. Caribbean today it not the same as 10 years ago.

Excellent advice. There are tons of pale tanzanite, cloudy rubies and included diamonds being passed off on the unwary who think they are getting bargains. The trouble is how does one compare, say, diamonds at home with diamonds in the Caribbean? Unless they have a GIA (not EGL) certificate, one would have to be a gemologist to tell the true quality. Watches are a different story, as model numbers can be compared. I have friends who are addicted to a certain high end jewelry cable channel and who claim the prices and return policy can't be beat. If true, DW can spend time on the beach, rather than hoofing up and down the streets of the Caribbean :D

  17. Effy is a good starting point, and, as someone mentioned, there can be good deals on their sale counter. Over the years we've probably visited most of the jewelry shops but we've purchased from only a few. DW likes Marco Bicego and Roberto Coin and has been very happy with her purchases in Artistic and Goldfinger. Both shops carry high end watches, too. As far as Diamonds International is concerned, all I can say is "buyer beware" and that's based on personal experience.

  18. I always ask the sommelier in Aqua/Luminae if I can trade and the answer has always been "yes". In some cases a credit amount was put on our account, but most of the time we are told the value and are allowed to choose any wine on the menu up to that amount or pay the difference for a more expensive bottle. The allowance can vary; we've had a low of $28 and a high of $35 and everything in between. Working with the sommelier gives us the opportunity to make our own choice.
