True and true. It's mostly transmitted by airborne particles, but if someone coughs onto their hand, grabs a serving spoon or tongs, then then next person touches the same utensil, and then touches their hands into their mouth, it can be transmitted that way — it's just not a primary way Covid is being transmitted.

Also true, according to two studies which came out quite recently. It's possible this is part of why Omicron spread so quickly and broadly.

If one wants to be extra safe on a ship, you could go through the buffet line, put your plate on your table, and return to one of the sanitizing stations at the front or rear of the restaurant to sanitize your hands before putting them in/near your mouth.

Or use the small paper napkins available as you walk into Colonnade. We used our own sanitiser too.

To see people with a chesty cough, cough into a napkin or blow their nose into one, was revolting.I did see worse one day.The wait staff have to pick these up.

  2. The food, the food, the food.Best at sea.Just lost weight on our recent Seabourn cruise. The food was not a patch on Oceania. The experience has left us even more excited for our Christmas and new year cruise on Mariner to the Amazon. You will love it Sailorjack.

  3. Yep. Had 3rd night of cruise booked pre boarding. Asked on embarkation for that same night and got it. Also added for a 3rd evening later on in cruise and got it. Because of bad meal we were offered a 4th meal there.
Steaks  were tough but consommé is one of the best dishes on the ship. Lobster Thermidor was good as was Caesar salad. Chicken is supposed to be good.
Little birdie told us to go to TK bar at 8pm and ask!!

  4. “Jane I am so sorry to hear your covid news and about your cancelled op.”

    Thank you.
Although I have highlighted many shortcomings-and not all, there were positives too. But as a first timer on seabourn, open to trying a new company, we did not experience what we had expected. This may not always happen on any holiday, but it was wholly below acceptable for us. The spa suites are very expensive and  it took a lot  of thought to book. Incidentally on booking  we were offered owners suite at same price , then 2 weeks before cruise we were offered owners suite or winter garden suite at a small upsell  fee. Again we refused. Obviously not wanted by others. We loved the 5 aft suites and we had a beautiful large corner balcony.

  5. Wow John, Ditto.

    No pre testing.

We went to seabourn square regularly  get new masks.
We arrived in penthouse spa suite to find someone else’s luggage on our bed. Phone broken, cupboard broken, sink plug broken.  Someone’s  swimwear in the cupboard along with receipts.

Most of what was promised wasn’t there. We had damaged balcony furniture feet too  but it was cleared away immediately. Steaks in TK were tough. TK experience in colonnade was awful. Not sure how he has a Michelin star. Loved Sea and Ocean. Best food,  music  and ambience.Used  main dining room once due to service.
3rd time in TK was a huge shock. Chicken for two was carved with me insisting it was raw. The waiter argued and said it couldn’t be as it’s cooked  for 36hours. He said it was the bone! Blood leaking everywhere. Other passengers were shocked. Eventually sous chef came out and we had Caesar salad as felt safe. That chicken could have killed someone if not noted in the dark. We weren’t the only table to get it raw! Promised next visit would be special!Rebooked but  nothing but a free spoon of frois gras. Our friends, regulars, got a top brand champagne in their cabin after their tough steaks!!! First afternoon tea experience- said I didn’t eat cream could I have butter! No butter, will provide next day.
Certain cocktails only available in certain bars. Year out of date potted marmalade.
Overall we were dismayed and so were passengers who are regulars.
Bus to airport on disembarkation was rammed.
At all ports of call we moored very near exit. Impressed.
We felt the staff were excellent.  Spa serene area is good. Quizzes a lot  of fun. (Except shared bowl of popcorn!!!). Ocean and Earth saved us food wise. Conversation speakers were great. Our cabin stewardess was very good. We had high expectations of our first cruise on Seabourn.

Sail again-no . Back to Oceania.

  6. We were unaware of more than a couple of cases of covid. I am sure that it is because of weather that the itinerary was changed.
I came home yesterday and proved positive today. I was appalled at peoples lack of hygiene and sanitising. We continually hand sanitised and even had our own sanitiser at the table. As stated before, we were the only people not to directly touch the serving utensils. But what we saw was disappointing. I expect it’s the same in all cruise ships.

Service was very good on board. Food not so. Don’t understand the Keller  concept in colannade. We had a great Indian buffet and  amazing food and service in E&O. That restaurant in the evening was the most popular. But not so good in TK grill. Raw, bleeding chicken, which carver told us was the bone as it was cooked for 36hrs.

  7. We have seen 4 ambulances at port collecting someone  from ship. 3 of those times we heard emergency call-outs for medical staff a short time before. Last one,  we saw a man walking into ambulance and a very heavy  clean of the railings on the steps by ship staff in PPE.
We have been aware of a lot  of coughing in the last week. In the restaurants, people coughing into hands and then proceeding to use serving spoons at the buffet. We have always picked up and used small serviettes to dish up our food. They are available from Ariane as you walk in.
