  1. Well you guy’s generally adequately fund a lot of governmental services many Americans aren’t willing to fund through their taxes.
  2. The Bacon Brothers aren’t an arena band, but the have toured smaller venues for almost 30 years. He's a Philly boy whose father was an urban planner and director of the city’s planning commission.
  3. Although I’m a chocoholic, chocolate cream filled just don’t do “it.” And don’t ask about Boston Cream donuts. 🤢
  4. @notamermaidFor as long as I remember, they’ve been “jelly donuts” regardless of what style fruit filling is used. Just be sure you don’t pick a “cream donut” by mistake (yuck, pudding not cream). Maybe “It’s a Philly Thing.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-CDyIFOfTQ
  5. There’s Rye (bread) for a Cheddar Sandwich. Or, you might prefer Scone.
  6. It looks like Rouen will have only limited dock space in mid-June. The Armada looks like a real spectacular and I’d love to see it. Just can’t imagine that it won’t affect the river cruises . . . https://en.normandie-tourisme.fr/highlight/rouen-armada/?ct=YTo1OntzOjY6InNvdXJjZSI7YToyOntpOjA7czo1OiJlbWFpbCI7aToxO2k6MTExO31zOjU6ImVtYWlsIjtpOjExMTtzOjQ6InN0YXQiO3M6MjI6IjYzZjg5YTE0NTBmODI0ODgzOTUwODEiO3M6NDoibGVhZCI7czo2OiIxNjEwNTYiO3M6NzoiY2hhbm5lbCI7YToxOntzOjU6ImVtYWlsIjtpOjExMTt9fQ%3D%3D&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=02202024-GP-EN
  7. What are odds that the shot Uncle Sam gave me before being sent off to the tropics for some FTA (fun, travel, and adventure) has permanency?
  8. We had a larger group and received a higher rebate. We used a TA rather than booking through the cruise line. He comped us a welcome aboard cocktail hour and handled all the registration and pre boarding paperwork. The paperwork processing saved us, as cruise organizers, a lot of hassles dealing with those who were cruise noobs.
  9. @CoralInter Continental is taking on line reservations for December. It isn’t down yet, so you have time. We find that jet lag in not enough of an issue to over come the benefit-cost analysis for a trip like we have in mind.
  10. If my memory of Cold War history and Berlin geography is correct. That speech wasn’t at The Wall as often cited. It was actually in front of the Rathaus Schöneberg, a couple miles from The Wall.
  11. Ich bin Berliner . . . or . . . Ich bin ein Berliner 🤦🏻‍♂️😉
  12. We are considering a Christmas Market cruise starting in Vienna. I think we should come in a day early as the itinerary has only the arrival day and evening in Vienna. We’re looking for recommendations for hotels that are convenient to the major markets. We don’t need much in the way of amenities just someplace clean, comfortable, and convenient. TIA
  13. You’ve been on point with recent comments. But unfortunately the dialogue reminds me of the adage about playing chess with a chicken. “No matter how good you are, the chicken will kick over the pieces and $#!+ all over the board.”
  14. I just ran across this article. American Cruise Lines, round trip from SF. Yes a river cruise. https://www.afar.com/magazine/you-can-winery-hop-in-napa-by-cruise-with-american-cruise-lines?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=022023NapaWineCruise&utm_content=B&utm_term=Daily Wander Newsletter
  15. GCT.com is advertising - “SAVE a FULL 10% off the price of your trip on ALL departures after 6/1/23 when you reserve by 3/31/23.” Full details and T&C are available on the website and it applies to all GCT & OAT trips, not just river cruises. The big caveat with this deal is full payment is due when booking.
  16. Do you happen to know the “legal” connection for Chicago going international to domestic? Thanks
  17. That seems like overkill. Medically necessary liquids over 100 ml can be taken through security as long as they are declared before the inspection.
  18. Sleep study from a sleep lab, and a CPAP if appropriate after the study.
  19. Definitely research each city on the itinerary that will have free time. Particularly the not so well known ones and ones you aren’t familiar one. We now travel with a list of things to do if/when we have time. Generally the trip leader/concierge/cruise director can help you with directions. If the trip leader comes up with an interesting activity for the free time we will join. If not, frequently we will breakaway from the morning tour towards the end to go DIY explore on our own. If you do breakaway mid-tour, inform the guide. There is usually a lot of time before we need to return to the ship for the port talk or departure. The lunch break typically takes a least two hours and there is a lot to do in that time. Plus we get to try the local street food and beverages.
  20. We had a similar Christmas markets cruise with GCT. A large (>20 maybe as many as 30), multigenerational family group. The age range was septuagenarian (maybe older) to teenage. We had a couple overnights in towns and the 20 and 30 year olds headed to the clubs along with the crew. Breakfast service suffered just a bit. 😉🤷🏻‍♂️ On nights aboard the lounge was more entertaining that on our other cruises.
  21. @notamermaid I’m trying to avoid politics and stick to facts about how our form of government operates. The house is controlled by one party (the “opposition”), the senate by the other party (same party as the President). The house vote was almost straight party line. The vax requirement was administratively imposed, not by law. as such it could be changed without legislation if the Biden administration wanted to.
