  1. Thank you for today’s Report & Daily, Rich. Still a bit cloudy here this morning, though the sun appears to be trying to break through to the East. We had quite a bit of much needed rain yesterday. It seems strange to say that, since some of our roads still have water on them, but we did. Thank you for keeping our lists, Roy! Hope the infection around your mouth clears up quickly. @kazu Jacqui, happy to read that you, DS & DBIL all arrived safely in Barcelona. Hope you are now able to relax and enjoy your journey. If weather permits, I have some gardening in my future. And I also plan to clean some upholstery today. Then this evening celebrating a friend’s birthday at another friend’s house. Prayers for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Stay well everyone! ********** Domdechant Werner 2019 Kirchenstück GG Trocken Riesling Very elusive, though you might be able to find it in Spain, Dailyites! Glad you made it safely, Jacqui! I found one online distributor in Germany that ships to North America. The wine’s price is a reasonable $18.49, but the shipping would probably cost at least as much. 95 Wine Enthusiast While full bodied and delightfully creamy in texture, there's a freshness and delicacy in this blossomy, perfumed white. Lime and white peach flavors are scintillating and pure, accented by strikes of crushed stone and a long, salty finish. It feels a bit subtle in youth but should gain depth as it improves. Best to hold through 2023 at least, but it should improve well past 2030.
  2. Terry, praying that all goes well and DH’s issue is a “minor fix”. And that all of you rest easy. Though somehow I have a tough time believing anything involving the heart is really minor. Perhaps relatively speaking?
  3. Not sure if all CC offer this, but mine allow me to go online and update my account with the dates I will be away and the countries to which I am traveling.
  4. Best of luck today & Monday, Debbie. safe travels. The best is yet to come!
  5. Thank you for today’s Report & Daily, Rich! Thank you also for the most perfect quote. Difficult to remember at times, but… Thank you for keeping our lists, Roy. Cloudy this morning. We have already had a shower, or two & Bindi is sleeping in. Her Vet had an emergency yesterday, so she goes for her heart worm test today. Prayers for all who need our support. @smitty34877 & @Quartzsite Cruiser Terry & Lenda, praying all goes smoothly today and all is well. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Stay well everyone! ******** Rochioli 2019 Estate Grown Pinot Noir This wine sounds lovely. And though out of my price range, I would love a taste. Available from several online distributors with prices starting at $74.99. Winemaker Notes #37 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2021 Elegant and beautifully balanced, this Pinot Noir has aromas of ripe cherry, vanilla and a hint of savory herbs, while on the palate it is juicy and refined with a hint of dusty cherry. The wine has a big rich mouth-feel, silky tannins and a long finish. This wine expresses classic Rochioli character. WE96 Wine Enthusiast This is a blend of several single-vineyard designates, predominantly Little Hill (53%) and Big Hill (15%), with additions from West Block, East Block and Sweetwater as well. Dark plum and raspberry accent a lively and expansive palate framed by rounded tannins and easy oak accents. Enjoy from 2029–2034. WS94 Wine Spectator Delicate and refined, this is filled with concentrated raspberry tart flavors that are laced together by plenty of cedary and underbrush accents. The fresh, juicy finish shows touches of ripe minerality and hints of white pepper. Drink now through 2027 RP93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate Pale ruby, the 2019 Pinot Noir Estate has pretty red and black berry aromas on the nose, with accents of black tea leaves, woodsmoke and earth. The medium-bodied palate is silky and fresh with intense, earth-laced fruits lingering on the finish.
  6. Following along, Jacqui! I am so pleased you are taking this cruise and sharing it with us. Hoping to see others from your roll call posting too!
  7. Jacqui, praying that your DBIL is cleared in time to sail. Hoping that there is no “third thing”.
  8. Thank you for that encouraging news. 33 is so young! I am so happy not to have had a recurrence, I will count myself one lucky lady.
  9. @grapau27 Happy Birthday, Graham! Hope your new year is filled with love, laughter, great health & cruises!
  10. Thank you for today’s Report & Daily, Rich! Another lovely morning, though almost 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. Thank you for keeping our lists, Roy! We have been keeping you so busy for the past 2 1/2 years. Heading out with Bindi now, since she had another late morning. She is definitely feeling her age. Then gardening and a visit to the Vet for the annual heart worm test. Prayers for all who need our support. @smitty34877 Terry, praying that Friday’s visit focuses on a minor, treatable issue. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Stay well everyone! ******** Simi Sauvignon Blanc, Sonoma County, CA A decent Sauvignon Blanc, consistently at the high end of Very Good ratings, and very reasonably priced. Easy to find online & in stores with prices starting at $9.98. Winemaker Notes This brilliantly clear, pale-straw-colored Sauvignon Blanc is fresh, bright, and crisp. The wine opens with complex aromas of lime zest, Meyer lemon, pink grapefruit, lemongrass, freshly cut hay, honeysuckle, and a hint of wet stone. Fresh and forward, zesty flavors of grapefruit and citrus with subtle herbal notes meld beautifully with a vivid acidity. Fresh, full, and vibrant, the finish is long and lingering with lemongrass and mineral. SIMI Winery Executive Chef Kolin Vazzoler suggests pairing this wine with shaved spring vegetables and radicchio with shallot Sauvignon Blanc vinaigrette, Dungeness crab salad with endive and Meyer lemon dressing, BBQ scallops with salsa verde, arugula pesto tortellini, and roasted sole with parsley, capers, and garlic. It’s also a great aperitif with prosciutto and melon, goat cheese, poke salad, or raw oysters. WW88 Wilfred Wong of Wine.com The 2019 Simi Sauvignon Blanc is smooth and nicely textured. This wine offers delightful aromas and flavors of apple, peach, and melon. Enjoy it as an aperitif or with melon and prosciutto.
  11. Thank you for all the good wishes! I have graduated to “every four month” dermatology check ups for one year. And if still no recurrences I graduate to “every six months”! Not sure if I will ever get to return to yearly check ups. Oddly, I will be ok if I don’t.
  12. Praying Steve’s fever goes away. Those nurses play such a critical role until Steve regains his energy and fighting spirit. Rest well.
  13. Thank you for today’s Daily, Rich. Thank you for keeping our lists, Roy! Totally dark here right now. Bindi did not want to go out. I need to leave for an early dermatology appointment. I am hoping this is my last “every three months” one, since there have been no repeats of the melanoma found two years ago. 🤞🏻 Prayers for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Stay well everyone! ******** La Marca Prosecco A sharp contrast to yesterdays sparkling wine, this one can be found almost everywhere and has very good ratings. Prices start at $14.98 online. You might find it for less locally. Winemaker Notes The delicate La Marca Prosecco has a pale, golden straw color and sparkles with lively effervescence. Opening with aromas of fresh-picked citrus and honeysuckle blossoms, the crisp, clean palate brings fruity flavors of green apple, juicy peach and ripe lemon, framed by hints of minerality. The finish is light and refreshing with a tantalizing hint of sweetness. Always serve La Marca Prosecco chilled between 46-50°F. A versatile Italian Sparkling wine, La Marca Prosecco can be served in sparkling flutes or white wine glasses. A full bottle serves approximately 5-7 glasses. After pouring the first round, seal the opened bottle with a bottle stopper to keep remaining wine fresh and effervescent and keep the wine chilled to 46-50°F. An opened bottle should last about 3-4 hours with the bottle closure. La Marca Prosecco has the charm to stand alone as an aperitif, but it also has the body and the acidity to pair well with a range of foods, from seafood and mild cheeses to rich pasta dishes and decadent desserts. 87 Wine Enthusiast
  14. Wonderful news, Lenda. I suspect just getting the feeling back in his legs is a psychological boost for Steve. Rest well.
  15. Dixie there used to be a site where you could search for yellow fever vaccination sites by zip code. Ideally you get it 10 days before visiting Devils Island. One of my neighbor’s sons got one at his local Walgreen. It might be pricey, but…
  16. Thank you for today’s Report & Daily, Rich! Looks like another lovely day here. Thank you for keeping our lists, Roy! Heading out with Bindi a bit late. She slept in this morning. 😎. Will check back later. Prayers for all who need our support. @Quartzsite Cruiser Lenda, praying you and Steve slept well and his rehab road is a smooth one! Cheers to all who are celebrating! Stay well everyone. ********** Billecart-Salmon Cuvee Nicolas Francois Brut 2007 When the lowest of five critics’ ratings is 96, you know you are in for something special. So if your budget permits, or perhaps for a very special occasion you might want to pick a bottle up. I would love to try this one. Available from several online distributors with prices starting at $134.99. Winemaker Notes Its vinification, partially in traditional oak casks, underpins the generous character of this fine, elegant and rich wine. A beautiful golden yellow, glinting with bright sparkles. The glittering, crystalline appearance is set off by an eruption of finely chiseled bubbles. A balanced tension is achieved by the blossoming of the wine (peaches in syrup, fine apple tart, and mountain butter) and embodied in the noble flavors that follow (fresh fig and wild berries). It combines all the richness of an aromatic curve, both complex and refreshing. Intense, fine notes of orchard fruits, associated with the character of stone fruits (Mirabelle plum and sweet cherry) and accentuated by the burst of a long floral note (hawthorn). This tense and mineral vintage, characterized by an elegant vinosity, offers you all the distinction of a well-aged Champagne. Served at cellar temperature (11° to 12°), this cuvée will reveal the flavors of a Bresse roast chicken or a delicious milk-fed veal chop with chanterelle mushrooms. WW98 Wilfred Wong of Wine.com The 2007 Billecart-Salmon Cuvée Nicolas François Brut Champagne commands attention. This outstanding wine is beginning its life in the marketplace. It is active and bright in its aromas and flavors with apple, chalk, tart citrus, and bright minerality. Enjoy it with late-night, pristine sashimi, and conversation with friends. JS97 James Suckling This is a laser-guided Champagne with fabulous energy and intensity with a tight palate, racy acidity and super fine phenolics. It goes on and on. Fine bubbles. Light pine and praline character. One for the cellar. 60% pinot noir and 40% chardonnay. Disgorged 19 July, 2020. Wonderful now, but needs time to come together. Better from 2024 onwards. WE97 Wine Enthusiast This beautiful Champagne is amazingly at its peak. Not too mature, not too young, the wine is in fine balance, showing some nervy edge as well as touches of toast. With a small amount of wood vinification, the wine has an extra fullness. Drink through 2025. V97 Vinous The 2007 Brut Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart is positively stellar. Elegant, polished and sophisticated, the 2007 dazzles with effusive aromatics and gorgeous balance. It's not an obvious wine, though, but rather a Champagne built for long, patient cellaring. The 2007 is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay taken from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Ambonnay, Verzenay and Verzy for the Pinots and Chouilly, Avize, Cramant and Mesnil for the Chardonnays. In other words, as good as it gets for villages. The wine was done mostly in tank with about 15% of the lots vinified in oak. Dosage is 6 grams per liter. (Originally published in May 2021) RP96 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 2007 Brut Cuvée Nicolas François continues to show beautifully, wafting from the glass with scents of sweet orchard fruit, citrus oil, clear honey, white flowers, buttery pastry and warm biscuits. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and incisive, with racy acids, a vibrant core of fruit and a pillowy, elegant profile, it concludes with a long, penetrating finish.
  17. Here is the link for the FDA site that provides shelf life for tests. https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/coronavirus-covid-19-and-medical-devices/home-otc-covid-19-diagnostic-tests And for what it is worth, the Binax protored test was easy to do. We did ours in a hotel room in Seward, Alaska. The hardest part was positioning my iPad, so the proctor could see the test at all times.
  18. Happy 35th, Fred! Hope your new year is filled with love, laughter, great health & cruises!
  19. Thank you for today’s Report & Daily, Rich. It is just getting light out now. Looks like another stunner of a day! @Quartzsite Cruiser Lenda, praying all goes well for DH and you today. Roy, thank you for keeping our lists! @0106 Tina thank you for all the time and care you put in to providing the recipes! I was a bit rambunctious in my gardening yesterday. I lobbed off a lot of dead/dying branches at the bottom of my Meyer lemon tree - and many were at weird angles. My arms are feeling it this morning, but my tree really needed it. I will wait a week or two before shaping it. I may skip the gym this morning. 😱 This one looked familiar to me. Hope it was not here that I saw it before… think how much fun cats would have with this! Not sure if Bindi would chase it or ignore it. Prayers for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Stay well everyone! ************ Chateau Ste. Michelle 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon This Washington Cab has very good - excellent reviews from consumers and critics. Its reasonable price makes it an easy one to try. Available from numerous online and brick & mortar distributors with prices starting at $11.49. Winemaker Notes #1 Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Best Buy of 2021 Chateau Ste. Michelle crafts this Columbia Valley Cabernet to highlight concentrated Washington red fruit in an accessible style. This is an inviting Cab with plenty of complexity and structure with silky tannins. It's also very versatile with food. Blend: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, 2% Merlot, 1% Malbec, 1% Petit Verdot, 1% Grenache, 1% Cabernet Franc. WE91 Wine Enthusiast The aromas are unmistakably Cabernet, bringing full-on notes of black currant along with dried herb and a kiss of spice. The flavors are ripe, luxurious and remarkably fruit forward, with the oak pleasantly dialed back. It shows plenty of richness in the middle. W&S89 Wine & Spirits A lot of wine for the price, this leads with scents of turf and cedar, as well as a dusty earth component that had all of us tasters seeing red…earth. the flavors are very firm, somewhat tannic, nothing a decanter can’t sort out, or sic it on a steak. Best Buy
  20. You & DH are in my prayers. His medical team, too. Hope you can relax a bit.
