  1. The only time you can take a larger bottle of alcohol on the plane is if you are flying internationally and buy in duty free shops after you go through security. I know because I just bought a liter of Absolute Oz in Sydney on my home.

As others have said, if you are flying domestic, you still have to abide by the 3 oz. rule. That doesn't change just because you bought it duty free on the ship or foreign port.

  2. As others have said, it's you choice whether to buy from Bon Voyage or not. A few years ago when bottles were $40-60, it was not advertised on the Carnival website. It was a secret society on Cruise Critic who passed the word along. Now that it is common knowledge to the general public, of course they are going to raise the prices because they don't want half of the ship buying a liter for $40.

Also, a cruise ship is a resort, not your local Costco or Liquor Barn. If anybody has been to Vegas or any other resort setting, Carnival bottle prices are a bargain.

Carnival wants you to buy drinks at the bar or buy the Cheers package. Buying a bottle from Bon Voyage is probably their last choice for the big drinkers to buy, especially now that they limit the numbers of bottles you can purchase.

  3. I will be 45 tomorrow and I wasn't really trying to stop aging I just don't like my face to feel dry. I also was just looking for something that is good and I didn't want to spend a ton trying different products. Guess I'll just stick with my Olay.

    First, Happy Birthday....

Second, if your face has dry areas, I would definitely look at a BB cream for the day. At night, I like to use Palmers Skin Therapy Oil w/Vit E....I use it at night while I sleep, and it absorbs well.

If Olay is not doing what you want it to do, time to change. You might want to look at Aveeno and Neutrogena.

  4. A good skin care regimen is different for everyone. It depends on your skin type. But you don't need to spend a lot of money. Some people swear by expensive brands, but if you look at expensive versus drugstore, they more than likely have the exact same ingredients. I have normal skin, a few dry areas, and I'm not prone to breakouts.

I use Garnier BB cream during the day, because it has everything I need for a daytime cream. At night, I use different things...sometimes creams, sometimes oil.

I would do a google search and see what might be good for your skin type.

  5. Perhaps you can explain the following to me as regards the PVSA. As I read it the ships "must visit a distant foreign port outside of North America" to be in compliance with the law and since neither Mexico nor Canada are outside of North America and are thus not a "distant foreign port", how does making a stop at Ensenada or Vancouver meet the requirements of the law? I've read through a number of sites and asked around but have been unable to figure that out.

    Thanks.

    Tom

Personally, I wish threads would be closed or deleted after a certain amount of time. It's to easy to google subjects and find old threads. No harm, no foul.

Here is a recent thread (poster also posted on Celebrity board)...it might answer some questions.

  6. We will be travelling on the Norwegian Jade in December. Does anyone know if they stock Cider in the bars/restaurants please? Thanks in advance:)

If you mean the alcoholic drink, we refer to it as hard cider. Most Americans think of cider as a non alcoholic drink.

  7. Bear with me here. I know nothing about this.

But why can't a person book a cruise...

    And then book another cruise....

And just not CALL it a b2b?

Do they check the names and say, oh, well, you're traveling with us from here to here, so you then can't travel with us from here to here.

What if they were just booked totally separately?

What if it was a person with...wait for it...the same name as you??

Also as Shmoo mentioned, it's the point of embarkation and the point of debarkation, and what's in between. It doesn't have to be a B2B...it could be 10 cruises, or 20. The number is not the issue.

  8. yeah- you do not want to book anywhere near the first three lifeboats.

    I would move back some

around 4196 to be centrally located

Are you maybe talking about the 7a's? Those are obstructed balcony and the first three lifeboats sit up higher, partially blocking the ocean view sitting on the balcony.

I was just in cabin 4123 on the Legend and friends were in 4122. We had perfect views between the lifeboats.

  9. Never booked a French Door room before and have one booked on the Pride, Room 4106.

Anyone stayed in that room before?

    Pictures or reviews would help.

    Thanks!

I was in cabin 4106 on the Spirit in 2012. It was completely blocked by the lifeboat, but it was still a great room for some light and fresh air. I think for the price of the 4K's in the Spirit class, any cabin is well worth it

I also just had 4123 on the Legend to Australia, and it is between lifeboats. It was a great cabin.

  10. Oh ok ... thanks .... I deleted that email long ago! :)

I would never delete anything that has to do with cruise and money situations. If anything, I would flag it for quick access if there are ever any questions. You might be able to check your trash and see if it is still there, and resend to yourself.

Or as somebody else mentioned, have Carnival resend it to you.

  11. None of the plans posted above really help OP. The Vancouver to Seattle cruise is an Alaska itinerary; they need to miss the entire cruise. So they have a week to kill racking up hotel bills and food costs or they incur airline change fees.

Seems to me that the cruise line owes them more than is being offered.

I'm not sure I understand why you think it won't work.

The last port after doing Alaska itinerary is Victoria (Canada)....they are being allowed to disembark here, making their B2B cruise from Honolulu to Victoria. Perfectly legal since they will be getting off the ship in Canada.

  12. This is an itinerary and B2B cruise we have been considering ourselves for 2016  - all of the posters seem to know what kind of law would be violated. Can somebody please explain in a few short sentences of not too many syllables how a cruise touching the US-Canada and the US again would violate state laws? The original posting (Londonbridge) is from the UK - is there a difference or is the law valid for all nationalities?

I don't want to barge into the thread - but really very curious about an explanation. The only thing I can remember is a law that a cruise ship has to enter one Non-American port when leaving Hawaii before ending the cruise at anm American port. But this can't be the case here????

Thank you for your explanations and good luck for Londonbridge that they can find a solution.

Somebody else had posted this a while back and I saved it.

    PVSA

The Questionnaire Pay attention to Question #4.

Answering "YES" to ALL of the questions below will likely constitute a PVSA violation.

1.Will you initially embark in a US port?

2.Will your voyage be entirely on the same vessel?

3.Is the vessel registered and flagged in a foreign nation?

4.Will your final disembarkation be at a different US port than which you initially embarked at (note that this may include previously unplanned disembarkation during the middle of a cruise due to illness/injury/emergency)?

5.Will your voyage only include ports within North America (Hawaii included. Aruba, Curacao, and Bonaire excluded)?

  13. I think Chengkp75 has the best plan, especially since you don't get into Victoria until late. You will still have plenty of daylight to see the sites in Victoria, spend the night and hop that early plane to Seatac. Our airport is actually a pretty nice one, with great places to eat and shops to kill some time.

The PVSA problems happen every single year in the spring and fall when ships repo. Unfortunately reps with the cruise lines are never trained about the law. In this day and age of technology, one would thing an error or flag would pop up when the legs are booked, and therefore wouldn't be allowed.

Somebody posted this on another board and I saved it. I think for those that don't understand the law, this is pretty clear cut.

  14. You mentioned the Bahamas and several people keep referring to the Caribbean. The Bahamas is not the Caribbean. It is in the Atlantic, and may have temperatures similar to the south of Florida. I don't think anybody could say with any accuracy what the temps.

I would check some history on weather in Nassau, Freeport, etc., and see what the average temps might be. Of course there is no guarantee, and it could be 60 and rainy, or 80 and sunny. You take those chances.

  15. I also stay away from shampoo and conditioners that have sulfate. I recently took the Loreal sulfate free color care shampoo and conditioner on a cruise (22 days), and was very happy with it. They have a few different formulas. It is also inexpensive, and can be bought at drugstores.

I also take a small container of Argan Oil.

  16. It's normal for women to get thicker around the middle as they age (but not always). I'm 59 and it's been happening for several years. Bye bye tiny waist of my youth. I do notice that some clothes, especially pants, don't fit me as well in the waist as they used to.

Ain't that the truth...I did find some jeans I really liked at Nordy's. Not your Daughters Jeans. I don't wear jeans a lot, but they actually fit really well. I definitely have to have spandex in my fitted pants now.

Now that I'm retired, I don't shop much anymore, but I do run by the Rack every so often, because it's only a couple of miles, and I love their bra shelf camisoles. Lots of colors and I expensive.

  17. You are talking about the Mixology contest. You can't just make any drink, unfortunately. If you can mix up a good sugary froufrou type drink (think drink of the day), and can then dance around and act a bit goofy, you might have a winner.

And they only pick 3 or 4 people to enter it, so if a lot show up to try out, it lowers your chances of actually getting in the contest.

  18. I did 35 days when the Spirit relocated to Australia in 2012...that was a B2B2B. I just did 22 days on the Legend to Australia and that was just one cruise. Depending on the itinerary of the Vista, I may be doing a B2B or more.

I actually wouldn't do anything less than 10 days unless I was adding two or more together.
