  1. First, yes you can bring mixers, soda, etc.

Anything you can think of will pretty much go with vodka. The morning guava juice mix is good. A mix of lemonade and ice tea with vodka is a John Daly. Of course orange juice for a screwdriver. And all those are free on the ship.

You can bring tonic or cranberry juice. I brought one of those plastic lime squeezes (I know, but easy) to add to my cranberry juice.

Coffee and 1/2 and 1/2 and vodka...get a specialty latte and go back to your room and add vodka.

Do you normally drink vodka? What do you mix with it? Personally, I think everything goes with vodka.

  2. A friend on my recent cruise had the cutest dresses and told me she got a lot from Boohoo.com. I ordered a couple of maxis when I got home and really liked them. They are in UK sizing (package came from NY), so make sure to read reviews and check conversion charts.

I normally wear a US 8, but ordered a size up, since they were more of a form fitting dress. They were perfect.

Right now, they are having a great clearance sale on spring/summer clothes...dresses for $8. You can't go wrong. Also free shipping with orders over $35.

  3. Where did you hear Asia? I asked someone in Carnival management and was told point blank, that was not going to happen.

Like everything else, take it with a grain of salt. This was from an officer on the Legend. They are weighing their options, since Carnival doesn't have any presence over in Asia. Of course, this will only be before the Vista comes over to the states.

I don't take anything I hear as gospel.

  4. There were many of us on the Legend to Australia that are anxiously awaiting the Vista itineraries. Personally, I would never sail on an inaugural cruise, season yes, but not the first few cruises the ship does. I am hoping there will be several voyages over in Europe or Asia (yes, that is being discussed) first, before it does the TA. Depending on the itineraries, I may book a couple, along with the TA.

  5. Unfortunately, the early symptoms of both flu and Ebola are the same.

I predict that, for the next few weeks at least, anybody presenting the symptoms of flu at a hospital emergency room will be handled as if they had Ebola.

Exactly...this hysteria needs to stop. I come here only to say that an 18 year old San Diego State University student died today from Meningitis. 300-400 students may be affected. Flu like symptoms. These are things you need to worry about, not Ebola. My heart felt condolences go out to her family.

  6. I just did this on the Legend to Australia. It was a lot of fun, and I didn't have kids. They decorate an area of the main dining room in the back, and several of the characters come through. You can take your own pictures with the characters, or they have one of the ship photographers there.

Is there anything specific you would like to know?

Reservations were the day before the breakfast. For some reason, they didn't show mine, but they had no problem seating my friend and I.

  7. Are you sure that's right? We have for example, raspberry cordial, orange cordial, blackcurrant cordial... I wouldn't have thought those would be 'lemonades...'?

That said, I found it quite surprising to learn what you call cordial. You wouldn't be giving that to children! :D

What do you call lemons, water and sugar. Since I was told that Sprite, 7-up is considered lemonade to Australians, I was told by Australian friends that lemons, water, and sugar would be called a cordial. Maybe a lemon cordial if there is such a thing.

And yes, our cordials are alcoholic.

  8. Original Poster would you happen to know what an Arnold Palmer drink is off the top of your head? No? I am not surprised, but since I live in Orlando, Home of Arnold Palmer, everyone here knows that it is half ice tea and half lemonade! Or how about a Twist Shanty? That would be beer and citrus juice up in Canada at certain times of the year! Regional differences are what makes this world different and unique. Just have a wee bit of patience and you will find people are happy to help you.

Just coming back from Australia, their idea of lemonade is a lot different. Lemonade is Sprite, 7-up, or lemon-lime soda, usually also added to beer to make a Shanty. What we in the states consider lemonade, they call a cordial (pronounced kor-dee-al), nonalcoholic.

Add a little (or a lot haha) of vodka to that Arnold Palmer, and you have a John Daly. Of course, now that they make Sweet Tea Vodka, you only need to add lemonade.

PS I love Angry Orchards Cinnful Apple that comes out Aug-Mar

  9. I just finished the 22 day cruise on the Legend to Australia. I was curious to see exactly what I spent on alcohol. (1 page total of charges) I do think the new price for longer cruises is a good deal ($37.50), I knew I would never drink any where near $950 (with tips)...

I did buy a bottle of vodka from Bon Voyage (brought some back in empty rum runners), and there were 3 free drink parties.

Even buying some drinks for friends, I still only spent about $214 on alcohol and a few specialty coffees. So, as you can see, the Cheers program definitely wouldn't work for me.

Everybody really has to look at how much they drink, and how often. On this long of a cruise, there were a few days, I didn't drink at all.

I have a B2B planned next year, and I think I may definitely get it for the first leg, and stockpile for the 2nd leg.

  10. Question regarding "french door" obstructed view cabins on Spirit class ships: I understand that when you open the french doors, there is a rail - what's under the rail? Is it open or is there a clear partition blocking access to the outside?

    Thanks much!

I just had cabin 4123 on the Legend to Australia, and these are great cabins. I had chosen mine over a year ago, since it is between lifeboats. There is a plexiglass type pane that goes from the rail down to floor. You can lean over the rail, but you can't go anywhere. It really was nice to have some daylight and check the weather.

  11. Put it in airplane mode and you'll do fine. You can even play candy crush off line.

If you have wifi only, don't even need to put in airplane mode. If any programs need the internet, you would need to sign onto the wifi anyway.

I just rented some movies from ITunes, and will watch on the Legend to Australia. I am actually taking my 1st gen IPad, just to download my SD card to, and my newest mini will be for everything else. I love that I can read, play games, listen to music, and watch movies without having to access the internet.

  12. I dont see how anyone could pay these prices. Bon Voyage price for 1 Liter of JD is $85. I can get 1 liter for $29.99. Almost triple the price. Thats a joke. If you lower the price to $50 I bet a ton of people would buy it. Instead these prices make people want to sneak liquor on, and a lot are successful. I mean, you lower to $50 and you still make 67% profit. (actually probably more if you buy in bulk).

A cruise line is not your corner Liquor Barn. It's a resort, and it will charge resort prices. Of course they are going to charge a premium for having a bottle in your room. Have you ever been to Vegas? It's all about choice. Some cruise lines charge more for their room bottles, some charge less, and Disney let's you take all the alcohol you want. I'm sure Carnival would much rather you buy your drinks at the bar. That's their money maker. A liter of their alcohol is about 33oz. It's easy to do the math, plus I can make drinks stronger if I choose, without paying for a double.

Carnival is a budget cruise line. That's why people sail on it. And there will always be those that smuggle, regardless of drink prices. They have just lowered the price of Cheers, so I think more will be buying those packages now.

In fact, the bottles were a lot cheaper a few years ago, when it was a somewhat well kept secret, and was not advertised for sale on Carnival. I would get a litter of Absolute for $40. Once word spread, and they added it to their website, the prices went up. So I can only assume that people are buying.

  13. I know you mentioned that your group might be technology challenged, but if anyone has an IPhone, you might look at an app called Ripple. It's.99 cents, but those that have used it seem to like it.

Maybe you could google it and see the pros and cons.

If this doesn't sound like it would be useful, I agree with the others. Simple post it notes, or a dry erase on a specified persons door.

  14. Be careful about turning off viewing the signature in roll calls. Sometimes someone like me volunteers to keep track of activities. It is easiest to place it in your signature so if doesn't have to be constantly copied and pasted. Also you will note I have a link in the signature to my website where I keep track of members and activities.

I have had signatures off for years...I need to see things in a nice compact form.

As far as websites on the Roll Calls, I always bookmark them, so I can get to them easily.
