  1. Jevvv,

The percentage of cruise passengers that are actually on Cruise Critic is very small. I would think the Australian/New Zealand market is even smaller. Once the word starts getting around the ships that sail in that area, you might start to see more CC members.

Also about cruisers invading roll calls to sell their excursions.. There happens to be a very popular ex CC member (and his GF), doing just that on my Legend to Australia cruise. I'm sure not very many know who he is, but some of us do. It's no big deal to me, since there are some late joiners who are still looking for private tours.

  2. Electric adaptor's VS converter's or "what the heck do I need???" !

Please, I need some help about electric converter's, adaptor's, or whatever!

When I search (on Amazon) for "electric converter's for Australia", I get "adaptor's", not converter's. Don't we need converter's to use our 110 V US, in Australia?

All I want to do is to charge our Kindle's and our phone's while we're in Sydney.

Any help will be very appreciated! Links would be even better :),

    Thanks,

I recently bought a converter/adapter kit with several plugs on Amazon. Just put both words in the search. Mine is Simran PG3 Kit, and was about $25 (with Prime)

  3. Lemonade and Iced Tea together is called an Arnold Palmer...mixing vodka in is called a John Daly.

I usually buy a bottle of vodka from Bon Voyage, and a John Daly is one of the drinks I make. I don't use the ship lemonade though. To much sugar for me, so I bring a lemonade Crystal Light or similar individual powder pack.

  4. Since these threads keep popping up...see below

    PVSA

Answering "YES" to ALL of the questions below will likely constitute a PVSA violation.

1.Will you initially embark in a US port?

2.Will your voyage be entirely on the same vessel?

3.Is the vessel registered and flagged in a foreign nation?

4.Will your final disembarkation be at a different US port than which you initially embarked at (note that this may include previously unplanned disembarkation during the middle of a cruise due to illness/injury/emergency)?

5.Will your voyage only include ports within North America (Hawaii included. Aruba, Curacao, and Bonaire excluded)?

Number 5 can also include a port in Colombia, which is common for canal transits.

  5. That sounds perfect, to me! A black dress alone could be a little boring. You did a good job of taking it up a couple notches! I'm trying to dress out of the box as well. I may be older, but I don't want to look frumpy.

I'm with you..I'm older, and frumpy is not in my vocab. In fact, I probably tend to dress a bit younger, but always tasteful.

Got a great compliment when I went to the grocery store yesterday, and the bakery lady yelled, "You're outfit is so cute. I want to go shopping with you". At my age, compliments like that make my day. LOL

  6. I only like veggie sushi, so losing it on Carnival wasn't a big deal for me. I liked most of the offerings from the Taste Bar.

I loved Jade on RCI Mariner of the Sea. I could get veggie sushi every single night, and lots of ginger.

I will be on the Legend in August, and while none of the sushi on the menu for Bonsai appealed to me, I might check and see if a veggie sushi can be made. Doesn't hurt to ask.

  7. Cruisers that post on Cruise Critic are a very small percentage of actual cruising passengers. A lot of people will book excursions through the cruise line, because they are then guaranteed that the cruise ship won't leave without them, if they arrive back late.

There is no guarantee on private excursions. A lot of passengers will also look into their own private tours. Some have no desire to be part of a group, no matter how small.

I travel solo, and usually book a variety of things. Sometimes, I just get off the ship and wander around on my own. Some of the tours organized by a roll call sometimes appeals to me, sometimes not.

  8. My cruise is less than a month away and I am going crazy on Ebay. There are so many awesome finds. I need to block Ebay and stop spending or I will have no cash left!

Think of it as cruise clothes investments. I have stuff that I take every time I cruise. Of course, that doesn't stop me from buying additional things when a cruise comes up.

And I am not one of those that packs lightly. I need choices. The tighter things for beginning of cruise, and looser garments towards the end of cruise.

  9. It has been reported it will be seasonal between OZ and the US, but nothing in writing yet. An Aussie did report on a thread that she would be coming back to the US on Apr 5 2015, but nothing has been released yet.

When I cruised the Spirit over to Australia, they added Australian outlets right next to the US ones, so I'm sure that is also what they did with the Legend. I will also be taking the Legend over to Oz.

  10. Think of it this way...you are already saving money by cruising on the most budget friendly cruise line. I have heard HAL has cheaper bottle prices, but other lines that offer bottle service are more expensive. It's just a choice.

You can always order room service, if you want a drink in your room, or the mini bottles in the fridge. I always order a bottle. I do like the convenience of having a drink before I get ready for the evening. I'm glad that the option is there.

And as others have said, it is a liter. You can make your drinks as strong as you like. There are about 33oz in a liter.

  11. I don't cruise for loyalty programs, but I sure like some better than others. I'm Platinum on Carnival, Platinum on Princess (thanks to my past Sitmar cruises) and Emerald on RCI. I have 18 more days until Diamond on RCI, and with their double days now for solo passengers, I will probably be focusing on them after my Legend cruise to Australia with Carnival.

It really is personal preference. I don't use Carnival Plat. Laundry service. I much prefer free evening cocktails and reduced internet costs. And I can cruise Celebrity, which I hope to try soon, and go over at an equal level to RCI, even if it's my first cruise.

Loyalty programs aren't what they used to be, you just have to decide what things you might like as a little bonus. And if you are just looking for cheap, then that's going to be Carnival most of the time.

  12. Maybe you missed the, "We're flying DIRECT from Atlanta" part.

The OP did clarify it was non-stop, but the difference is, a direct flight is one that has other stops, but no plane change, and the flight number remains the same. A non-stop is self explanatory. So yes, a direct as opposed to a non-stop could make a big difference.

  13. Hi everyone,

My mum is coaeliac and will be on carnival spirit next month.

Could anyone fill me in on gluten free food availability on the spirit and in particular whether they have gluten free cereal?

Since the Spirit has been sailing from Sydney for a year and a half now, you probably would get better responses from the Australia/New Zealand board.

She also should contact Carnival/Au special needs dept.

  14. I have not been able to find the Purex sheets. They are great. We have moved to the Tide pod -- but they can leak in the luggage so make sure your ziploc is tight, Or i have used one of those disposable glad containers that I just leave on the ship so there is more room in my suitcase on the way home!

Can't find the Purex in stores anymore, but they can be found on Amazon.

  15. Lots of cute maxi skirts on Zulily today. I think I may pick up a couple. Most are $16.99. I like AmandBlue's idea of rolling them up

It does take about a month to get items, because sellers ship to Zulily first, and then Zulily ships out.

  16. No worries. In light of the troubles he's just not going. I wish getting a passport was easier and faster without having to fork over lots of money. Oh well thanks for the replies

Passports really aren't that much, considering they are good for 10 years. Heck, people spend that at Starbucks in a month...LOL You just have to prepare for the cost.

Having one, whether you need it immediately or not, is a good thing to have. Especially when situations like this come up and you just aren't sure. I think having one opens up a whole new world of traveling possibilities.

  17. Carnival is saying that it's the same port OR different port in.the USA. I have called 3 times now

Look at this way...it is a very small percentage that cruise, actually read any type of message boards. So that means a very large percentage have probably been told the same thing by Carnival reps.

Your friend can take the chance and go. Just be prepared if they don't allow boarding. But, then again, the same thing might happen to a lot of people.

I would have Carnival fax you a letter that this cruise is acceptable without a passport, and take it along. Your choice.

  18. I'm a bit of a nail polish freak, having probably 250+ bottles. I swear by Nailtiques. I started several years ago, and it was finally the first time I had to actually start clipping my nails because they grew like crazy. Now, I usually start with a coat of Rejuvacote by Duri and a coat of Nailtiques 2. Then 2 coats of color, followed by a top coat. I change my color about every 4-5 days.

Also, cuticle cream and oil is a must.

I do my own manicures, and now since I usually take 14+ day cruises, I carry all my supplies with me, and do manicures on sea days.

    Debbie

  19. I would love them more if they weren't all so long...haha

Being 5'2", I don't want to have to hem everything, so right now, I'm into patterned leggings.

A great place to find inexpensive maxi dresses and maxi skirts is Zulily. It is my go to place daily. A couple of days ago, they had a whole nautical section.
