  1. Well, actually the casino umbrella for all CCL brands is the Ocean Players Club. "Club 21" is just a HAL thing, haven't seen it referenced anywhere in a very long time. Would suggest that the OP contact OPC. Can't post the actual clickable link on this site but check oceanplayersclub.com.
  2. ALL of the Vista-class ships (Westerdam, Oosterdam, Zuiderdam, Noordam) are configured as shown in photo of Lincoln Center venue provided by @IPB4IGO, and all have steamer chairs on the prom deck.
  3. Well, we nearly did. I'm on the 150th Anniversary on Rotterdam next month, but you had to cancel. Was looking forward to meeting you after we discussed our funny signature quotes years ago.
  4. Same here. Mine (I've had the same one for 12 years) ALWAYS returns my calls ASAP -- ALWAYS the same day.
  5. @HAL4NOW, are you OK? Did you have to evacuate? Smoky over here, but not at all like where you are. Hope your home is safe.
  6. Just back from two weeks on Zuiderdam and still catching up. @Quartzsite CruiserLenda and Steve, happy anniversary. Hope you are doing well.
  7. I have also done that on numerous occasions. Never had an upcharge ...in the past.
  8. Actually, no. Wasn't nearly as careful because the first three were soon after startup. Masking on ALL indoor shipboard locations was MANDATORY for all back then. Seriously, if you took a step out of your stateroom without a mask the stewards would politely remind you to go back and get it. Furthermore, these summer Alaska cruises have lots of kids running around.
  9. Thanks Lenda, getting ready for the drive right now. I'll be mostly unplugged for the next two weeks, so am praying that I hear good news for Steve when I return.
  10. I'll be boarding Z'dam for Inside Passage tomorrow. Here's my plan: Breakfast and lunch (when not in port): Go to Lido (masked) at non-busy hours. Order food and take it to a table on starboard side (non-smoking) out on the open-air aft deck by Seaview Pool. Or possibly the midship Lido pool, providing the magrodome is OPENED. If closed, then Seaview definitely. For dinner, NO MDR at all! Room service from MDR every evening. Note also that, despite what was said in post #16, there is no Tamarind on Vista-class ships. Bummer, 'cause I LOVE Nami sushi. Staying masked while indoors always. Not taking any excursions in crowded vans or buses. All I ever do in Alaska is hike anyway, so don't need to book tours. I haven't had Covid (yet) and hope to stay healthy this trip because have important European cruise six weeks later and don't want any possible "long Covid" aftereffects to mar that voyage. Oh BTW, this will be my fourth cruise since the restart.
  11. Carolyn @Cruising-along, I sent you a PM on Facebook. Because we are not FB friends you will not receive a notification. Just check the "Message Requests" feature in FB messenger.
  12. There is absolutely NOTHING "near the dock" in Anchorage. The ship berths in an industrial area. A free shuttle is provided to Egan Center in downtown Anchorage. Many private excursions depart from there. However, if BFF just wants to hang out in town there is an AWESOME museum just a few blocks from Egan Center. I can happily spend the WHOLE DAY there! When you want to return to the ship you return to Egan Center for the shuttle. Hope this helps.
  13. Seriously? I have to drive up to Vancouver to join Zuidy for Alaska on Tuesday. Or did you just mean the the crossing by Lynden (WA-539)? I'm planning to cross at Blaine (Peace Arch), hope I won't be sitting in the 80-degree heat for an hour.
  14. I'm sinister (a lefty). It is said that we lefties are in our right minds -- a medical/anatomic in-joke. Anyway, the only time being a lefty causes me any problems is eating with chopsticks in public where others can see me. Asians NEVER use the left hand for chopsticks -- may (or may not?) be for the same reason that middle easterners never use the left hand for eating. All the servers at my regular sushi places and Asian restaurants already know me but if I go to a new place I always explain immediately to the server that I cannot do ANYTHING with my right hand -- write, throw a ball, sew, etc. So I was at Nami on K'dam earlier this year (I LIVE at Nami on Pinnacle-class ships). I noticed two women at the sushi bar a couple of seats off to my side. They were BOTH holding their chopsticks in their left hands! I gasped and said to them, "You're using your left hand for your chopsticks!". They grinned at me and said, "Yes, and we've already noticed that you are doing the same. We were about to say something to you". Turns out they are also sushi/sashimi addicts so I lucked into dinner companions for the rest of the voyage.
  15. And the next time Zuidy will be in Juneau I'll be on her (well, actually the next two times)! Thank you, Kathi.
  16. Happy birthday Rich @richwmn (in addition to FB good wishes). Wish I could join y'all on Nieuw Statendam in October, but I'm on Rotterdam's 150th re-enactment that month. The last "Dailyite Cruise" was fun! Hope there are more in the future.
  17. You know that there are no dumb questions on this thread, right?😄 ISP is Icy Strait Point, a really great stop on Alaska itineraries. It is actually owned by the Tlingit tribe, who live in the village of Hoonah on the island. You're practically GUARANTEED to see whales bubble-feeding there. Really great hikes in their lovely forest. Hoonah village is quite interesting. And there are a few OUTDOOR places to eat (I'll be tryin' to stay healthy on these cruises 'cause I have an IMPORTANT cruise coming up six weeks after I return home from Alaska).
  18. And I really wish it were the entire port. I've got B2Bs on Zuiderdam starting next week and our itinerary includes Skagway. However, another line (I forget now which one) who berths at the Railroad dock, has cancelled Skagway for the rest of the season and has replaced that port with ISP!! I know that lots of folks like Skagway but I really prefer ISP/Hoonah. Better hiking than Skagway, that's all. And that's JMO.
  19. That's because on the remaining R-class (and the old S-class) ships there are no staterooms actually labelled "balcony". The staterooms equipped with the verandahs are all labelled "suites". Which, I believe, is what @CruiserBruce was saying -- just in a different way.
  20. Just curious as to why you posted that inaccurate and snarky comment? You must have known that "Formal" was changed to "Gala" about 5-6 years ago (and "Dressy" just this year), didn't you? The OP is seeking information. We are here to help on this forum.
  21. Seriously? You were required to have PAPER vax record to board in Vancouver? I'm asking beause I'll be boarding Zuiderdam next week in Vancouver and hadn't planned on bringing ANY paper, just Verifly and ArriveCAN. This will be my fourth cruise since the pause and so far I have never been asked to show any paper, just the digital stuff (vax and test results). However, NONE of the three previous cruises were departing from the Vancouver terminal.
  22. ANYTHING you need to know about shipboard rules and regs (smoking, dress code, etc) can be found in the KBYG (Know Before You Go) document which can be found on the HAL web site.
  23. I guess that everyone here knows that I was an engineer and, although retired now, am still enchanted with anything having to do with engineering (even if it has nothing to do with airplanes). So I'm currently reading De Architectura, a series of 10 books written in the first century BCE by the Roman architect/engineer Vitruvius. Not strictly about architecture per se (about which I have NO interest) but treatises on Roman engineering of that era including mathematics, water mills, siege engines, aqueducts, early pneumatics and hydraulics etc. Amazing what they had already developed and implemented 2000+ years ago! Oh yeah, those 10 books are in digital form on my tablet, so's they can accompany me on my upcoming cruises. As to fiction, I'm a great fan of Ken Follett. Well, most of his stuff but not all.
