  1. I have been looking at a repositioning cruise on the Veendam May 1. It goes from Ft. Lauderdale to Quebec City. It's stops in Gloucester, Bar Harbor, Halifax, Sydney, and Charlottetown. I was wondering if the temperatures in the ports would be cold and wet or just cold? If anyone has done this cruise, have the seas been calm? Do you have to have a heavy coat? Is there usually fog on New England cruises that cause you to miss a port? I guess I'm asking for your experiences on this cruise.

I'm doing the May 1 cruise and had a friend do it 2 yrs ago. Few days were cold and they even got snow in Quebec. After this winter I expect to be prepared for cold wet. My friend missed Gloucester due to fog. We tender in Gloucester and Bar Harber. Looking forward to this cruise good price and plan to be prepared for whatever.

  2. My question is regarding whether or not anyone (who is gluten free/has celiac) can answer if the frozen non alcoholic drinks are in fact gluten free.

I have researched abit on line and it seems to depend on the type of mixes used which I cannot find on RCCI website.

I don't drink alcohol but would enjoy cruising with a frozen drink!! ;)

    Thank you in advance.

What in a frozen beverage would have gluten!!!!!!!!!!

  3. See I will definitely be in the minority here but I think NCL Epic is the best looking ship on the seas. There is something very Nordic about the way she looks. Royal's ships have great curves, but I love the blocky ruggedness of the Epic. I wish they had built a couple more versions of epic but that ain't happening. I'll get on NCL Epic one of these days.

Boxy cars and boxy ships.................. the worst!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. SCAM! Got one too about two weeks ago. Sounded interesting so we went to the presentation. Well it is for a travel club and they want you to pay 9000 to join and then they claim you get 50% off vacations. They would not tell us their name till we got there and gave us no hard copy paperwork. They told us we had to make a decision that night. Ha! Really, we could not think about it. They kept coming up with different prices every time we said no. We did get voucher from a company with a different name. It says we have to pay fees and port charges. When I googled both companies they came up fishy. They make it really hard to cash voucher and if you can they charge so many fees you end up paying more than if you went through cruise line. I tore up voucher and thanked God I did not buy into the travel club. These things make me so sad that this world has people that make a living ripping off others.:(

Scam Travel Club. I went to their presentation and had the Attorney General of my state call to get some info from me as they were investagating this club.

  5. Windjammer: Okay - real question:

Who makes/eats bisc. and gravy with peas in the "sausage" gravy?

ICK! I googled it and did not see it. Is it a Puerto Rico dish?

I ate lots of mashed potatoes on the Jewel right before xmas.

That ship is too small for variation...Ranch wasn't on salad bar till day 4.

If we go on another RCL - will be a bigger ship!--- I gained one pound. Yes that is good, but its because the windjammer was sub par to me... and we barely choked down 50% of the two MDR dinners.

Even the Chops, great food, BUT the potatoes were the ones from Windjammer with cheese on them.....

NCL-- another small ship - I lost 5 lbs in 4 days and the teenagers didn't eat!

I get fat and happy (not literally) on HAL and Carnival food thus far

Unfortunately - the best food we had all week long on that RCL cruise was in St. Martin!

Really NCL and Carnival....... The worst food IMO
  6. You can also rent a car at the pier for around $60 for the day and tour St.Maarten at your own pace. Just do some homework where you want to go etc. before you leave and you will be ok. Btw the cars are not the newest ones, but they have got good airconditioning..LOL

traffic in St Maarten is horrible. You may not make it back in time if you don't plan for this. I would'nt if this is your 1st time there. But Maho beach is a must.

  8. IMO MTD is a bait and switch and should be called "Dining with Pre-Cruise Reservations between 5:00 -9:00 PM." Guess it boils down to what MTD denotes. Those who have reported a positive experience with MTD have pre-cruise booked reservations, but is that what MTD means to everyone? After paying over $2000 for a cabin and prepaying gratuities for MTD was it unreasonable to expect to be seated for dinner within 15-30 minutes? Questionable whether we will again cruise with RCCL.

I have never had a problem with MTD I reserve online and have even changed my time once on board to accomadate spa and other activities. That's what MTD means to me is I have a choice to switch if I need to and have never had a problem..

  9. Once we're on board (we're staying in a Royal Family Suite so allowed access to this area), can we before our cabin is available, go up there for a cocktail? I was not sure which areas are open to passengers prior to the ship's departure from Port Canaveral? I don't want to just wander the decks and the Windjammer area waiting for our cabin to be ready if the lounge is available prior to the ship leaving the port? Thank you for any insight, as I guess this info would be the same for any of the RCI ships?

Your cabin will be ready by 1PM. Cocktails are at 5:30

  10. I like this drink too & have made it several times at home. Here is CCL's 'Official' recipe:

    1 1/2 oz. Peach schnapps

    4-6 oz. mango mix

    1 T. grenadine

mix the peach schnapps & mango mix together. Swirl in grenadine & garnish with a slice of pineapple & a cherry.

I buy the mango puree that you find at the liquor store. My DD adds vanilla vodka to hers but I don't.

I'd have to add regular vodka to it. Sounds to sweet for me.
