  1. Didn't know that locals claimed some area as their own. This is the first I hear of anything but a friendly, welcoming people. Could you share more on these "local only" areas? Is there a list of them somewhere?? We are of the generally adventurous type and we would hate to accidently stumble upon one of these!
  2. We are getting off the ship. We have plans to visit Haleakala Crater and are doing the Road to Hana!! We just have 4 hours or so to kill on Sunday morning and were just looking for something close by. We just don't have the time to travel across the island to the better resort beaches. I'm glad you plainly stated your thoughts on the beach I was looking at. It's fine, my feeling aren't hurt. I won't go there.
  3. Yep, that's the area. I saw Hale Nanea Clubhouse on the Google map when I was looking at the beach. Wasn't sure what it was, a restaurant?, a bar? I'll look into it more, thanks!!
  4. Well, it is what it is. I really appreciate you check it out for us. Sounds like we would be better off just staying on the ship. I'll look for a short shore excursion to look around and maybe see Maui. Can't thank you enough for taking the time to check it out for us!!
  5. Oh, so not too much to walk around and see?? Well ok, will keep researching and might just stay on ship for the morning!!
  6. Dang it, no sir, that's not it. Beach I'm looking for is west of there, on the other side of where the Pride of America docks
  7. Yeah, I'm watching this because I haven't seen or heard of anything there that interests us!!
  8. We have an excursion scheduled for 3:00 PM, so really just trying to kill some time until then. We get there at 8:00 AM and plan on walking around town for a bit. If this beach works out it would be give us a chance to get some beach time. We have so much planned, but little to none beach or even water time scheduled. Going to Hawaii and not laying on a beach just seems criminal!! Thanks again!!
  9. Silver Sweethearts, that's incredibly kind!! Can't wait to get to Hawaii if the people there are so helpful!! Thanks for the heads up about the gates!!
  10. I'm sorry, did you go by there today. scottca075 pointed out some errors I had made spelling, that may have confused some people, and he correctly identified the beach I was asking about. But he didn't tell me a name for that beach and he didn't give an opinion on whether it was safe to go there If you did, I'd appreciate your thoughts!!
  11. You are exactly right!!! I screwed up the spellings right from the start, sorry about that. But yes you finally have me straightened out. That first map is the beach that I was looking for information on
  12. Oh good, that would be great!!! That's really nice of you
  13. Sure, thanks. Its just beyond Kahana Pond Wildlife Sanctuary. Looks like the Wastewater Reclamation Plant has a "pond" on the east side which has a rock berm that extends a few feet into the ocean, that would form the east boundary of the beach. The west boundary has another rock "pier" jutting into the water, that's directly behind the Hale Nanea Clubhouse. Looks like there is a gated walking path from Amala Pl to the beach. Hope that helps!!
  14. Nope, thank you. I have no idea and I appreciate people who do. I really screwed up my posts. We are docking at the Port of Kahului, not Kahalai as the title says. The beach I see on Google maps is different from Kanaha Beach, actually between the Port of Kahului and Kanaha Beach Park. But I think you're telling me that it's not the best area to walk through, even if the beach is fine. For that I'm grateful!
  15. DUH!!! Of course it's Kahului. I'm a dummy!!!
  16. Looking at Google Maps, there is a beach just east of the port, west of the famous Kanaha Beach and north of something called Kapohomauoni (for which I can find no information. It looks easily walkable from the ship, and if I zoom in on Google Maps I can even see a few people on the beach. Does anyone know the name of this beach? Has anyone been there??
  17. This is true if you're on a ship without the Freestyle machines. But if you're on a ship with them, They are very easy to use!! I haven't sailed NCL yet, so don't have an opinion of their cup.
  18. The wheel screwed me this morning without even spinning!! I clicked the link to play and it showed me a picture (maybe a screwdriver and screw)?? Refreshed my screen and now it acts as though I played!!
  19. Very few Napali Coast excursions from Nawiliwili, its on the opposite side of the Island!! This change by NCL is a punch in the gut, they don't have any excursions to fill the void. Perhaps some private tour operators will step up and fill the need???
  20. Changes our plans. Will now have to hunt for an excursion to see the Napali Coast and cancel the plans we had made for that day!! Very disappointed!! Once again it seems as though NCL is selling something they have no plans on delivering!!
  21. No They have to stay on the streets or parking lots. We are on PoA, and will be in Kona on Wednesday Oct 25th
  22. I appreciate your ideas, feel free to suggest more!! 😁 We are talking about renting street legal dune buggy's. So looking for things to see/do. Beach is a must!! I'm pretty sure we are not going to the other side of the island unless we book a cruiseship excursion
  23. Yes, I'm very concerned about this. I think your advice is spot on. If I do do a DIY, I plan on sticking close to the port
