  1. Mambo beach is man made and isn't pretty in my opinion. The closest beaches to port are Pirate Bay and Blue bay. Both are 10 minutes by cab $4 per person each way.

Can you share some info on Blue Bay - we have been to curacao a few times and have visited Cas Abao and Porte Mari but we are thinking of trying Blue Bay this time - we get in at 1:30.......thoughts?

  2. Big news about Symphony that can be revealed.

Rahul Barua (currently on Grandeur) and Raj Bhugwatch (on Harmony) will be concierges -- not sure about the lounges. Also do not know who will be the 3rd Concierge.

Great news indeed, we had Raj previously and really enjoyed him

Now an excuse to travel on the Symphony [emoji3]

  3. Try the Ocean Plaza on deck 5 for breakfast.

Watch sail away from Miami from the back of the ship. Great views.

Due to the rain we didn’t use the Havana area as much as planned.

Extra Storage under the sofa. The drawers pull out from the bottom.

Bring BBQ from Pig and Anchor, if tables are full there, to the Havana area as plenty of open tables.

    Thanks!

  4. Just updating. We had read all the exclusions when booking, and as posted above Johnny Rockets is NOT excluded in the fine print (and it is listed online under "specialty restraunts" for the ship we were on --Freedom). I also called Crown and Anchor a few days after booking and while on the phone with them asked about lunch at JR being included on the Ultimate package and was told it was.

Then we tried to eat lunch at JR on our Freedom TA and were told no. I figured the staff were just confused and we signed the bill after they checked with somebody then went to guest services later on. A very surly person, read through all the fine print and eventually told us we were being given a favour and they'd waive the one charge but not to go back there. As a TA, there are a lot of sea days and only three other specialty dining options---we bought partially on the idea that we could enjoy some guilt free trips to JRs (a treat for those of us who live outside the US where such food is not readily available)---so when I ran into the Restraunt Manager a few days later I asked about it. He made a quick call and said it was taken care of and we could dine at JRs as our meal anytime. A few days later, we went up for lunch and, once again, ran into charges. Another trip to guest services and insisting they call who we had spoken to and it was dropped and our third trip to JRs we were actually not charged.

But, it was a whole lot of hassel---and for us to eat at a less pricey venue than otherwise, which ought to be a good thing in RCI's eyes! I think RCI needs to clarify this point.

Interestingly, we were encouraged to take part in the Galley Brunch and repeatedly told that would be included (it conflicted with progressive trivia so we did not take part---but we were surprised by the push for that since it seemed clearly excluded in the fineprint)

Interesting; on the Allure in September we ate at JR several times with dining package and it was never questioned......

  5. We always cruise end of August first of September for my birthday - we got caught on the Allure during Irma.

Honestly it was the smoothest seas we had ever been in. The captain and crew were amazing and we ended up with three extra days on the ship.

Many people left the ship in Jamaica and Cozumel but we stayed on as we live in Florida and were in the path. I guess for us at sea or at home we have to deal with the hurricane.

It was a bit stressful worrying about the house and communicating back home but that's to be expected in an emergency.

We will continue to cruise in hurricane season (and in January)

  6. From an article posted on the Sun Sentinel website tonight (http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/weather/hurricane/fl-bz-airports-ports-irma-monday-update-20170911-story.html):

Carnival Cruise Lines, which has ships waiting to return to Port Everglades and PortMiami, said those ships are positioned to return Tuesday.

    Carnival,
and Norwegian have all canceled or altered itineraries because of Irma. Outgoing passengers are advised to check with their cruise lines for information on planned sailings.

PortMiami is scheduled to open Tuesday.

    Thank you for the information

  7. So very sorry to hear that your home has been damaged by Irma. My heart goes out to everyone who has been impacted and affected by this horrible hurricane! Hopefully the Port of Everglades will open soon so that all the cruisers can get home to their families.

Thanks - at least we have electricity on the ship

  8. Thanks to everyone for the information.

While having extra vacation days is nice and Royal has been terrific.

We learned our home was damaged by Irma so we are anxious to get home; assess it and get the repairs in motion

  9. This update from the Broward County (owns and operates both the port and the airport) Emergency Operations Center appeared on the Sun-Sentinal (local newspaper) website last night:

8:40 p.m.; Airport, port and shelters:
Broward County officials hope to have Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport partially open for flights on Tuesday and Port Everglades ready to accept cruise ships on Wednesday.

County spokesman Ric Barrick said officials plan to inspect the airfield Monday and depending on the level of debris and damage, airlines could be allowed to reposition their planes to the airport to begin flights on Tuesday morning. However, that’s far from certain as officials are already aware of flooding on the western portion of the north runway that could delay the airport’s ability to bring planes into the airport.

Crews will also do an aerial survey of the port with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to check out the channels and to see if the port can bring in cruise ships currently scheduled to arrive on Wednesday, Barrick said.

Thank you so much; we feel a bit helpless - not complaining at least we were safe at sea

  10. Good morning - we are currently on the Allure (extended cruise) and are hoping to be able to return on Wednesday -at least that is what the captain is telling us.

Can anyone give an update on the port condition, we left our vehicle in the garage at the port.

    Thanks
