  1. They will automatically use the non refundable OBC first. No need to ask. You can confirm by checking on your account on the TV in your cabin. Enjoy your cruise.

  2. I never had much luck looking for the xtra OBC offering TAs either. I tried a couple of US on line ones but the extra OBC was only small and it was all priced in USD which I figured there was more risk in. I like to book and know what I am going to pay. Even a 5% swing in the exchange range could more than wipe out any free OBC. As far as Canadian ones that large big box store is the only one I found that would reward you with gift card. It's a good deal but they don't take AMEX and between my point on the CC and the free travel insurance on it I just didn't see where it was worth it.

The only way I have found to book in Canadian funds with a US TA is to book onboard and then transfer the booking. I have not been able to book directly with the TA in Canadian funds. I find that the extra perks are definitely worth it.

  3. As a Canadian, are there any issues or items of concern when booking with a US Travel Agency?
My method of choice is to book while on board, which gives me the option to book in Canadian funds, and then transfer to the big online agency. This gives me extra perks from Celebrity and the bonus perks from the TA. No specific issues for Canadian residents as I am the type that tries to stay on top of things anyway. I bring to their attention any price drops or extra perks that I can take advantage of and they deal with it. Obviously, this would not work for booking your first cruise but works well from then on.

  4. Celebrity normally adjusts their Cdn rate every 3 months, that is what we were advised, so we just play the game to get a decent rate closer to what it is. It is a gamble but pays off in the long run.
This had been my understanding as well, however post #17 stated that this was no longer true. Glad that Celebrity finally adjusted the rates. I guess that they have been preoccupied with trying to deal with the new website and recent hurricane issues.

  5. The Canadian rates for our January 2019 cruise just went down today. I haven't looked into whether the US prices also went down but Canadian rates for all cruises that I have made note of have dropped so I am thinking that they finally made the exchange adjustment that has been long overdue. My TA is on the phone with Celebrity making the necessary adjustments to our reservation.

  6. Would you book the cruise before a dry dock? We are considering the 1/2 Reflection and she goes into dry dock 1/9-1/19. I know sometimes they start certain things early and/or don't keep certain things as clean (or so I've read on CC). Thoughts?

We have been on a cruise prior to drydock and had no issues whatsoever. I would not hesitate to book again.

  7. I actually called Celebrity regarding this issue and the Consumer Outreach agent reached out to the Revenue department for me and this was their reply:

Your booked fare will not be adjusted. The exchange rate (e.g., 1.35, in my case) is locked / loaded / sealed at the time the cruise was released. Even though the exchange rate is hovering at ~ 1.24-1.25 at the moment, there is ZERO chance of having any fares adjusted, as it was 1.35 at the time the cruise was released.

Cruises released this December (2017) should be at a better value for Canucks.

I'm kicking myself (hindsight is 20/20) as my next cruise, I had the opportunity to book in USD, but I declined as our $ forecast was iffy in this past Spring. My loss! as IF I had paid in USD, I would have saved ~ $1500 in exchange differences.

So? Canadians, pay attention to the cruises released later this year - if what I was told is true; the time to plan & book will be with the new scheduled releases in December.

If this is true, it will completely change the way that I book my cruises. This is news to me and contrary to what I have seen in the past. I am not a happy camper (cruiser) right now. :(

  8. I know there have been at least two exchange adjustments. The first was back at the end of July, I actually called in to get an adjustment on the OBC we had purchased. At the same time they adjusted the pricing on excursions as well. The 2nd one was recently and the exchange for OBC purchases is down to $1.25, but for some reason they haven't adjusted the excursion prices like they did in July.
I haven't been watching OBC exchange prices but I have been carefully watching cruise prices to see currency exchange adjustments. There haven't been any since March. There have, however, been price adjustments with the different promotions. What I am waiting for is the CAD prices to match US prices (with current exchange rates obviously not dollar for dollar). This will save us several hundred dollars on our upcoming cruise as, when we booked, it was over 1.35 and now is down significantly.

  9. I remember reading on these boards a while back that most of the cruise lines only update their currency exchange every 3 months.

Sometimes you can get a deal this way, as I did back when our dollar started to drop and it was still almost at par on the cruise lines site, it didn't get changed for a couple of months. People on our cruise were actually buying OBC almost at par so they could get US cash at the guest relations desk and it would be cheaper than buying it at home.

Right now we're in the opposite position. Our dollar is better but it doesn't reflect on the cruise lines sites yet. Hope this helps.

It has certainly been longer than 3 months since they adjusted their currency exchange. It has not changed since March and likely before that.

  10. I'm also glad to hear that it's gone. I don't think that I enjoyed anything off the menu on Top Chef nights. I resorted to everyday favourites or simply went to the buffet.
