  1. Here is the reply to my request for information from Princess Cruise line -

Power sockets in the cabins onboard Majestic Princess include: 1 x China socket 220V 1 x Italian/Euro socket 220V 1 xUS socket 110V 2 x USB ports (built inside the base of the bed side lamp on the night stand)

  2. Thanks for taking the time to share.

Personally, I wasn't a fan of the cheese plates as there are only certain cheeses I want/like and I hate wasting food, but I am keeping an open mind for March :)

Glad to hear you enjoyed your cruise :)

Kazu - that is what husbands are for. You take two plates of cheese, put all the pieces that you like on one plate and give him all the remaining pieces. Works for me!!! :)

  3. First time on the Amsterdam? I have 27 wonderful days on her.

Yes this will be our first time on her. We loved our Baltic trip on the Prinsendam, so I am expecting that this cruise will be just as good on a small ship.

Panama and Alaska sounds great. Have you been through the canal before?

This will be my first time for both parts of the cruise. My DH came through the canal when he emigrated to NZ. This will also be my first trip to Florida.

  4. Scrapnana, I think you are leaving on Amsterdam's next World Cruise. I'm on her next Grand Voyage. Next 2 times Amsterdam embarks on a big cruise one of us will be on board.

I am having great difficulty getting anything done today - I have to keep sneaking a peak at the Amsterdam!! The next time she leaves from Ft Lauderdale we will be on her for two of our dream cruises - Panama and Alaska!!

  5. I imagine at least some guests went ashore for dinner inVenice. I believe, my late DH and I would not have had dinner on the ship if we could have eaten ashore. We would have made sure to re b ack in plenty off timefor life boat drill. No sense pushing our luck. Darn but I miss Him.

Hold onto all the wonderful memories.

  6. Eurodam and Amsterdam are currently scheduled in Seattle next summer. If Oosterdam comes back I wonder which it will replace and where that ship will redeploy. I'm still wondering if they are getting ready for a ship to leave HAL sooner than originally expected.

It may be the Amsterdam. We are booked to go FL to Seattle then staying on for the May 14 Alaska BtoB on Amsterdam. My booking now shows an extra Oosterdam booking as well for the Alaska dates. (I have 2 bookings now for the 14-21 May Alaska). The new booking is for the same cabin catagory but in a much poorer position so I am not a happy camper at the moment!!!!

  7. We did a 24 day cruise and land touring in September. Here are my suggestions -

    1) Take one bag each (Yes it can be done!). Think very carefully about weight. Can you can lift the bag up the stairs into the train.

    2) Plan your trip and then pre-purchase your rail tickets buying early bird FIRST Class. There is more room for your luggage and less pushing and shoving as you board the train, if in first class.

    3) Check Rick Steves web site for lots of valuable advice, including what to pack, and how to travel in Europe.

PS: I used a back pack. It weighed 7.8kg (17 pounds).
