  1. Maybe some day people will be aware that all this "medical" marijuana is being pushed by lobbyists and other people who get paid to do so.

    <drags out soapbox>

    Sorry but you and Xerox are seriously undereducated. The marijuana of today is not the same as back in the 60s and 70s. It's treated the same as food and gene technology allows the growers to target certain ailments. Seizure control is a major problem controlled by the usage. Sure there are still the potheads but at least all they do is call Pizza Hut for a delivery and aren't out there shooting up the town. That "gateway" theory is pushed by the Big Pharm Cartel. Zero benefit to tobacco. Give me one benefit?? There are your lobbyists. You do know the cig companies were aware of the poisons in their products as early as the 60s?

    <puts soapbox away>

  2. Google Cable Beach in Nassau. You can get there by bus or taxi. Has a great beach, restaurants, hotel and a casino.

    You can make lemonade out of your lemon.

    We took a cab over there $3 pp and it saved a subpar trip. Water was excellent and locals weren't too pushy. Had a great time.

  3. There is no such thing as "extra". Since there is no limitation on the number of bottles you can bring on board, then none of those bottles could be considered "extra". When the volume of something is unlimited, there can never be a point where the limit has been reached making additional volume "extra". Instead of thinking of this in terms of a "limit with extras", think of it in terms of "free and paid". There have been no reports of "paid" bottles being disallowed at the port of embarkation. Princess has the system pretty well down pat.

    What?? Is it not the "rule" of one 750ml bottle per person per cruise? We have brought one as many as 8 at a time but they were boxed and had a cabin label on the box and no one blinked. This time we plan on carrying the 4 on with us and even though they were lax in the past, things are tightening. Forgive my denseness.

  4. I would say Carnival is the best mass market cruise line. Something for everyone including families. Not so much a niche as a universe. And they do it well. However, they will never be all things to all people. That is impossible. Individuals who need special attention or who would prefer to exclude certain demographics might be happier elsewhere and luckily there are lots of other choices.

    If someone wants Carnival to be more like some other cruise line, IMO, they should stick with that other cruise line. Many people cruise on Carnival because they ARE Carnival.

    I don't think people want Carnival to be like other lines. The other lines are probably happy there is a universe for that niche. Many people go to Walmart because they are Walmart, demographically speaking that is.

  5. But the smell still lingers. Seemed that the casino was non-smoking on Formal nights.

    Princess does non smoking on Formal nights in their casino. There is no removing the residual smell as it's embedded but it's still better than sitting next to chain smoking Bingo Betty. Some trips are better than others depending on passenger make up. But it's still gambling, smoking, drinking. Sometimes even winning is thrown in the mix.

  6. Carnival's niche is family cruising. They definitely provide amusement for the kids which allows parents to enjoy their time as well. We are past that and now enjoy the mellower trips. Wife has an extreme high stress job and quiet time helps the recharging she needs. We have been to the Caribbean enough now and need to explore more. Carnival hasn't branched out and Alaska is not something we need after coming out of a Northern Winter.

  7. Without opposing opinions, this would become cheerleaders, unicorns and puppies. Not to mention mind numbing boring. Back in our early cruises with Carnival, they always brought their A Game. That has diminished to, IMHO, an average experience. I liken it to a Mall at Christmas. Constant frenzy, loud and no rules. If Carnival fits your expectations, great. But to us, they were a teething ring. We gained knowledge of the cruising world and then tried another line after Carnival got old and repetitive. The wife still is insisting on bringing the grandkids on a cruise and starting their addiction. So I must stay up on the latest news and enjoy all of your musings.

  8. Used to be able to use tray to hold beverages on Carnival we can sit down and start eating. Now have to make a separate trip since trays have gone away.

    Like it that Princess has people to bring you drinks.

    Many folks will say "Big Deal". It is a nice option to find a table, sit down and they are there, on the spot, with drink options. Little things add up. How about warm cookies and popcorn for the nightly Lido movie??

  9. Well this will surely rough up the cheerleaders. How dare you objectively compare the two lines and surmise that Carnival is not in the same league. Princess, to me, is a vastly different product. While it does the short runs around the Caribbean, I don't think it's their focus. They focus on longer trips and seeing more of the planet. Princess is changing but is still a throwback to cruising of the past. To me Carnival is a mass market boat ride filled with families waiting for a ride on the waterslide. We've done our share of Carnival but building bigger ships to cram more people waiting for waterslides is not my vision of cruising. Next cruise is coming up fast. 10 relaxing days to one of the Wonders of the World.

  10. Love the ideas. Seems like getting your vacation on ASAP is the priority for most. :D

    My friend and I will probably want to check out our cabin first if it's ready, drop our carry-ons etc. (Wondering how you will know when it's available? Do you just go there to find out?)

    Then probably grab a bite, I will have to find out if he would rather brave the buffet or try another option. Maybe Alfredo's, I don't think we'll want to sit in the dining room right away. Then explore the ship and find a place to watch sail away. If it's not freezing I know I will want to be on deck for that. I don't plan on bringing wine since I got the beverage package but I will definitely want a cocktail to celebrate.

    Maybe we will eat at one of the specialty restaurants for dinner, I'll have to see what he thinks. I liked the idea of bookending the trip by eating the first and last night at a specialty restaurant.

    The beauty of Princess, cabins are all ready at boarding. Unlike other lines where you schlep your carry on around for a couple of hours. Go straight to your cabin.

  11. Depends what type of breakfast we've had, and what time we board, if we venture out for lunch. We will first head to cabin and get valuables in safe and clear out fridge and get drinks and champagne chilling. We then will walk ship, look at buffet and get our bearings. We get our first cocktail which officially puts us on vacation. Then it's safety briefing and back to cabin and balcony for sailaway. If luggage is there, the wife puts away luggage items and then we just walk around and see what's open, have dinner and plan evening. Our first trip was a frenzy, now the routine is relaxed.
