  1. Good catch. Yes, I meant $50 each, per day. Still, that's only $100, and it seems like a steal if the per drink limit is $50.

I guess what I'm asking is, what are the top end options for various drinks on a Carnival cruise? You say there are no wines at $50/glass, but what's the top end for wine? Or whisky? As I said, I'm assuming unavailability of pricier options must be the catch. Otherwise, Carnival would lose money on this deal.

How much is Boone's Farm where you live?

  2. If you enjoy rules being followed, Carnival is not for you. It's a free for all. Personally I'd stay with Princess. We were on the Conquest this past April and the ship is fine, they all are. But it was poorly run and no controls. We were late boarding, tenders were a mess and we were late coming back. I blame that on management. The ship was in great shape and food was okay (ship food). Depends on your tolerance level. I'll be kicked around for my opinion but we've done several other Carnival that were okay. Does not compare to Princess though.

  3. Catching the flu has nothing to do with Princess. It has everything to do with a lot of people in a small space and many not caring that they are ill and could be spreading an illness. It's the 'all about me' generation - so don't expect anything to change any time soon.

I will say I used to get a cold/flu most every cruise we took in the beginning until I stopped going into the hot tubs. Haven't gotten sick since. I also don't touch handrails unless necessary. I use a knuckle to press elevator buttons and use the stateroom bathroom vs public bathrooms.

Well said. We bump up all preventatives 2 weeks before we leave and constantly washing hands on board. I don't want to say people are getting nastier but hygiene is suspect.

  4. Our experience on Princess was absolutely fantastic. Easily one of the best cruises that we've ever taken and, ironically, it was cheaper than Carnival. While I don't consider Royal to be "classy", I do consider Princess to fit that description.

It's a shame more folks don't look at Princess. I think it has the impression of old folks and long itineraries. Both are true but they have excellent ships, very good staff and much less frenzy. We are past the age of bringing/paying for kids, so it's time to relax and enjoy. I've seen a good share of "happy" cruisers on Princess but I call them "professional cocktailers". They have week long cruises as same as everyone else.
