Thanks everyone,Looks like we will have to wait and see as there seems to be no set practice on what you get or don't get

What is the 'suite party'? i have stayed in suites numerous times and have never been invited to a party for suite guests only.
If you are in a Grand suite or higher they have a coctail party or as we had on our last cruise a breakfast with the officers.

Has anyone stayed in Balcony cabin 8594 or 8596 on the Radiance? It is on the "hump" at the middle of the ship. The deck plan shows the Explorer Lounge also at the midship area and it looks like the door to each of these cabins would open out to the Explorer Lounge? If you have any info on either of these two cabins I would appreciate it..I have to make a quick decision.
There is a wall so you don't need to worry. Hump cabins are great we always try to book one.

From past experience, it is up to the Concierge, or GSM to escort you aboard, if you have the RS. Some do, and some do not.
And staying in the RS does not guarantee you a seat at the captains table.
The captain, along with the Maitre'd will come up with a list for those invited to dine with the captain.
The adult guests in the RS will definitely be invited to the Suite party, which, today, the Hotel Director tries to make unique.
Since this is a special occasion, it never hurts to ask the Concierge to pass on your request, but please don't be offended if you are not invited. Let's hope that you are!!
Enjoy your cruise!:)
Rick
No we wont be offended if we are not invited.Or if we don't get an escort onto the ship and taken to our suite. I personally feel that what cabin/suite your in shouldn't come into who gets picked to dine with the Captain. I only asked the question as some TA use it to get you to book the Royal suites.
And Thanks we will enjoy our cruise.

We stayed in the RS on Enchantment and did not have an escort to our suite - but John Travolta was next door.
We also dined with the captain on a cruise where we stayed in a GS.
I also think it's a hit or miss.
In your case it sounds like the concierge may have been busy making sure other guest were happy.
-
Thankyou everyone. It looks like it depends on the Concierge and how busy he is if we will be escorted onto the ship. And it seem to be hit and miss if you get an invite to the Captain dinner. So we will just have to wait to see if we get an invite or not.We will have a great time either way. Thanks:)

Rhapsody invited top suite guests only the last time we were onboard.

We are sailing on the Rhapsody so maybe we will have a better chance.Have to wait and see.

When we were in the RS on the Explorer we did get a bottle of sparkling wine and a dozen roses. The concierge was coming back from vacation our sailing and was not available to take us on board but I believe it is customary for the concierge to do so. As far as dinner with the captain….NO. I was really disappointed. A pinnacle member in the concierge lounge mentioned getting an invite but not us. He was not the friendliest captain. At the officers cocktail party he mingled with a couple of pinnacles and left. He never came around. All the other officers did. Usually the captain's are quite friendly. Just our luck I guess.
Thankyou Nice to know about the flowers and wine.
On the Voyager we found the Captain only talked to the pinnacle members. We were only Emerald at the time so didn't make the cut. On the Radiance the Captain and officers made sure they did the round of the room. And treated first time cruiser as if they were pinnacle.
-
You will likely be invited to an officer's cocktail party.
Thankyou,I knew they did the officer's coctail party or a breakfast for suite guest. We had the breakfast on the Radiance I think they were trailing it.It made a nice change from the normal cocktail party.
-
Fingers crossed for you. I think we're still a long way from an invite, and not booking RS until I can capably play the piano.
Thanks. We are cruising for our 24th Wedding Anniversary so to dine with the Captain would be a nice bonus.
I am told the piano plays it self .Which is good because I never got past chopsticks.

I stayed in the Royal Suite on Enchantment on a 4 night cruise and was invited to dine with Captain Ban. I thought about it for a few seconds and ran to the phone to accept. It was a wonderful evening.
As to the concierge, I was not escorted on board by him as I was on the 2nd leg of a back to back. One of the ship's officers took us through customs and back on board. We already had enjoyed the services of the concierge on the previous cruise so he already was aware of our cabin arrangements.
So we just may get an invite and if we do I am sure it will be a lovely evening.
Did you get any wine or flower in your suite as we were also told that you do.
Thanks

The Royal Suite guests on our Hawaii/Radiance cruise were at our table in the MDR and did get to eat with the Captain. That one was 11 nights so probably more chance of it than a 7-nighter.
We are booked on a 10 night cruise so will be interesting to see if we do get an invite. But it doesn't matter if we do or don't as we will still have a great cruise.
Thanks
-
I don't think that it is a guarantee that you eat with the captain, but you do have a very good chance of being invited.
And yes the concierge does meet you and take you to your room,

Thanks.I couldn't see how they could guarantee that anyone got an invitation. Do you know if the concierge takes you straight to your suite. As in the past we have been aboard by 11.30am but couldn't get into our room until after 1pm.
Thanks again

Anyone who has stayed in a Royal suite before maybe able to answer this. I was told that if your in the Royal suite you will get to eat with the Captain on one of the formal nights. I was also told that you get met and taken on board by the concierge. You also get flowers and a bottle of wine to welcome you a board.
Thanks

I have pictures of both 8500 and 8502 on the Vision that were taken after the refurbishment last year. I'll be happy to post both the RS and an OS tomorrow, after I return home.
Just let me know.:)
Rick
Love to see them when you have time.:)

the description I saw says whirlpool tub.. there is one of those, but it's in the bathroom
In the RCI brochure we got when we booked says royal suite balcony with whirlpool tub.It must be a miss print.I know some of their ships have whirl pool tub on the balcony of their royal suites.

Hey Simi! Yes, there is a full door between the bedroom and living room.. I took this picture from inside the bedroom which is why you can't see the door. Not Jacuzzi on the balcony though
Let me know if you have any other questions... are you coming to Seattle to catch RH?
It a shame there is no jacuzzi on the balcony as they say there is in the discription.

RCL website still shows the un-refurbished pictures of the Royal Suite for my upcoming cruise on the Rhapsody.
Has anyone stayed in the RS recently on the Vision (sister ship) or the Rhapsody that would be willing to share some photos?
Thank you!
I was going to ask this question as I was trying to find pictures too. Did you ever find any by chance?
Cheers

Hi,
We have been to Luganville before and have seen many taxi drivers/local tour operators touting for business as we walked off the pier. We haven't used any of these persons before and was wondering how reliable they are and what sort of prices they charge for a full day tour?
We are heading back there later this year and looking at this as an option.
Thanks in advance.
We are cruising there at the end of the year and asked the same question to some past cruisers we know. And they said there is no problem as long as you agree on a price and don't pay them until they return you to the ship.

Looking for suggestions for our Port day in Napier next February. Would like to find a tour that included a variety ( wine tastings, see the gannets, other popular Napier highlights). Will be in Port from 9A -6P.
Is Napier a Port to possibly sightsee independently or is a private guided tour for 6-8 preferable to see the major tourist sights?
Any specific Tour Operators past travelers have reliably used would be most appreciated.
Thanks!
We used Princey tours in Napier and they were wonderful. We did a private tour with Hamish and he designed a tour for us to see as mush as we could in 5 hours. We never felt rushed and he was very informative about the local area. Would highly recommend doing one of there tours or you can book a private tour and he will design a tour to suit your interest.

How far is it from the Sydney airport to Circular Quay?:D
Thanks,
Ed & Jean
Depends on if your driving or taking the train from the Airport. But I would allow a least 20 minutes. The train leaves every 5 to 10 minutes from both the Domestic and International and cost about $17 per adult and takes 20 minutes. A taxi will depend on traffic and will cost about $35 to $40. But if its peak hour and you get lot traffic the price and time it takes will of course go up.

Thank you so much. I found it and we are definitely going to book.
I'm disappointed we didn't know about it before we cruised on Radiance last year but it will be a great surprise for mum on Rhapsody.
Thanks again for all your help :)

It will be a great surprise and it is wonderful what you learn about the running of ship .:)

Hi all,
We are doing a South Pacific 10 night cruise in December on Rhapsody. We did a similar one last year on Radiance and didn't hear or see anything about a behind the scenes tour but am interested to know if Rhapsody offers it.
Would be super interested to do it and would love to hear from people.
Thank you xx

They offered one on our Radiance cruise to NZ last year and it was great but you need to pre book on line. And they are offering one on our Rhapsody cruise I think its 9am on the 14th December. You should be able to book on line now. Sooner you do it the better as they do book out fast.
Do guest staying in the Royal Suite eat with the Captain?
in Royal Caribbean International
