  1. No on the Rhapsody we didn't get met or any welcome of any type.We did find out that we were meant to of been met .But the email was sent to someone else and not even anyone we were traveling with. For some reason head office had made a mistake and linked our booking with our table mates and they got the email and escort onboard. We did get a bottle of champagne but no flowers. Also no dinner with the Captain or any sorry for the mistake. We still had a wonderful cruise in this lovely suite.

  2. Hello, could anyone tell me how to work out if the bed in a balcony room is next to the bathroom or balcony on this ship? Apologies if this has been answered before; I did a search but couldn't find anything. I would like to know this before making a booking. Thanks

When I did a cabin crawl on the Voyager the bed was near the balcony in the balcony cabin we went into.Bathroom was near the cabin door then a sofa and then bed near the balcony near doors.

  3. Our group of 9 are cruising New Zealand/Australia on Celebrity in January. We're researching and considering other tour vendors than just what Celebrity has to offer; such as Zealandier or Viator, etc.

What is your experience with these or any others?

Are there are excursions that you recommend for Bay of Islands, Tauranga, Wellington, Akaroa, Dunedin?

We have very diverse interests in our group. Many are LOTR fans. I want to enjoy the natural beauty of the land and wildlife. There are those interested in architecture and history.

    Thanks for your suggestions! :)

    Hi

    My recommendations in

Bay of Islands -is to take the free shuttle bus to Waitangi treaty grounds http://www.waitangi.org.nz/

or take a ferry to Russell or a Hole in the rock cruise .

Tauranga- we always hire a car/van with a GPS and do our own thing. If you drive into Rotorua the Buried village is well worth a visit.http://www.buriedvillage.co.nz/the_buried_village_experience/

Akaroa - Black cat dolphin cruise you can swim with the dolphins or just enjoy the scenery. The mail run tour is good to but I think he only takes 6 or 8 people.

Dunedin-Good Company tours are wonderful and all their tours are a lot cheaper than the ship and are very reliable. http://www.goodcompanytours.co.nz/shore-excursions-dunedin

    Cheers

  4. Thank you. I just worry that we will

do it & they'll serve Duck.... Which we despise! LOL. That's about the only thing we would not enjoy...well, that and maybe Escargot.

    Thanks again!

We did on the Radiance and found it to be a most enjoyable evening and well worth the money.

If you don't eat duck you can let them know that when you book.My husband has a seafood allergy and we just let them know at the time of booking and it was no problem. When the chef came out at the beginning of our night to check if anyone else had any allergies 6 other people spoke up with different things they couldn't eat. He said it was no problem and for some of the course people got different things. He explained how he cooked all the dishes.

    The whole night was Amazing.

  5. Good evening all,

I will be cruising on the Dawn Princess departing MEL on 11/02, and am looking for some help on things to do at each port. Any experienced NZ cruisers out there that can share some top things to do at each port? Also, which port should i seek a car rental vs. a tour?

    My ports of call:

Auckland, New Zealand 10:00 am 8:00 pm

Tauranga, New Zealand 5:30 am 4:30 pm

Napier, New Zealand 12:00 pm 7:00 pm

Wellington, New Zealand 8:00 am 6:00 pm

Akaroa, New Zealand 8:00 am 6:00 pm

Dunedin, (Port Chalmers), NZ 8:00 am 6:00 pm

Cruising Fiordland National Park 8:00 am 5:00 pm

    Hi

In NZ we never do ship tours as it just so much cheaper to do it yourself. Auckland- there is so much to see in walking distance from the port.

Tauranga- we hire a car to take a drive into Rotaroa or go for a drive down the coast .

Napier-You take the shuttle into town and walk around lots to see and its a beautiful town. If you are into wine . Princey tours are great or Black Rose is meant to be good too.

Wellington- you can walk or catch the shuttle into town (fee) and then the tram and the gardens.

Akaroa -Dolphin watch/swim book direct with Blackcat or one the other companies as it is cheaper than the boat or the mail run.

Dunedin-We like to use Goodcompany tours. We have done a private tour with them and also there train tour Adult tickets was less than half the price of the ship .

Enjoy your cruise New Zealand is lovely.

    Cheers Trish

  6. Thanks for sharing. I have a feeling that my son will want to "mix and match" from the adult and the children's menu. Is that frowned upon?

Not frowned upon at all. The waitstaff are wonderful at making sure the kids are happy and well feed.My daughter always liked to mix and match and it was never a problem. She is 16 and she still likes the carrot sticks and ranch dressing and the waitstaff always had it waiting for her on our last cruise when we came in.She would thank them every time and we tip them extra at the end of the cruise. Happy kids make happy parents.

  7. Captain Sindre (Borsheim) has gone to work for an oil well drilling company. He will be sadly missed by RCI - always great fun in the CL. I hope one day he returns.

    Cheers

    Di

    Hi Di

I hope he comes back too. Had him on our first cruise and he was wonderful and so friendly. He treated first time cruisers the same as Pinnacle. Not like some of the Captains we have had.

    Cheers Trish

  8. I want to go ahead and take care of our My Time Dining designation (not necessarily reservations) for our 2015 cruises (September and November). My Cruises won't let me do it. Do I have to call?

It would still be to early to book a table for My Time for your 2 cruises. It seems to open up any time from 100 days to 50 days out from your cruise. So keep checking and when it gets to 50 days and still no luck .I would give them a call or you can do it when you get on board.

  9. Please find the email below we received from the Restaurant Operations Coordinator prior to sailing on the Adventure of the Seas.

That's very interesting as we always cruise in grand suites and have never received an email from anyone but the Concierge JD on the Radiance. So I wonder if they stopped doing this back in 2011 when you received your email or is it just what some ships do.It is lovely personal touches like the email you received that make people keep coming back.

  10. Not sure if they are enforced at Southampton...but I hope so. We have been at terminals where it is not enforced and it just get crowded. Why cant people stick to the times ? it would make life easier for everyone.

Agree. So much quicker if people stick to the time they are given. We cruise out of Sydney and I am so glad that they do try an enforce the boarding time given .It always amazes me that you get people that have a 1.30pm or later boarding time get there at 8.30am and want to board. They are still getting passengers off from the last cruise and they have to clean and re stock the ship. Then they complain that they had to stand in the heat for hours until their check in time. I wish people would just drop off their checked in bags (you can do that from 8am)and go and enjoy the sights and come back at the right time. That's what we always do so much easier and more enjoyable than standing in the sun.

  11. and yes, have had times where we asked and got what we asked for....Note, we ASKED, we did not get all pompous and demand....we ven said please (for those not familiar with the word it is intended to imply that you are grateful to someone for listening to your reqest).

We have observed those that DEMAND, and amazingly, whatever they asked for is not available. (thus my above comment).

I would love to hear more people say please and thankyou. It doesn't hurt to say them but they do mean a lot to the people that receive them.

  12. Does Royal Caribbean sometimes only open a dining waitlist to people that book a suite? On a cruise I have booked I noticed that if you book right now in a suite the early dinging waitlist is open. If you book in any other type of room the waitlist is closed. So do they give priority to people that book a suite?

We always book a suite and have never got special treatment when it came to the dining room. But if you have any problems the concierge is always happy to help.

  13. As the title says if you don't need the table in the MDR as you are going to a speciality restaurant a couple of nights during the cruise do you let the waiter know out of courtesy.

    Cheers

Yes we always let them know .As it nice to give your table mates and the waitstaff the courtesy of letting them know not wait for us to arrive for dinner.

  14. That's great! When we travel with others who aren't yet diamond members we don't go into the diamond lounge. (Hate to leave them behind) With this new program it will be so much better..we can have our drinks elsewhere besides the diamond lounge...and enjoy the company of our traveling companions.

Yes it is great.A lot of us travel with friends and family not able to go in the diamond lounge so the vouchers are wonderful

  15. How much is the chefs table again? We will be on the serenade of the seas? Would my 15 y/o daughter be able to go or is it really just an adult affair?

On our last cruise and we were told our 15yr old wouldn't enjoy chefs table as it is designed with more adults in mind.On hearing it was about food being matched with wine our daughter didn't want to go.We went and had a wonderful time and were glad we didn't take her because she wouldn't of enjoyed it at all.It was a very enjoyable night but most teenagers wouldn't want to sit at a table listening to talk about food and wine pairing. When we went our dinner went from 6.30pm until 11.30pm.

  16. They don't look that close and if you wrap them in bubble wrap and put them in a wine cooler bag . They will look just like 2 bottles of wine and should slip right through no questions asked. I know people that have taken 2 bottles of port on. The bottle looked just like bottles of red wine.

    Cheers
