Read somewhere that this is a repositioning cruise.  As such, there may not have been a lot of options on the route.

Yes, Re-positioning from Winter cruises in Africa with several itinerary changes because they not sail in the Red Sea or the Suez Canal.  Heading for Barcelona, Spain and finally Southampton, Great Britain and Her summer season.

Two of the passengers were just on Today Show and they basically said NCL abandoned them, they took no responsibility for missing the ship. They've flown through 7 countries over the last 48 hours to get to Gambia where the ship is, but now they aren't sure they'll board the ship today due to lack of trust. Sadly, the interviewers were playing into this and making NCL look like they were at fault.

The Dawn is NOT in Gambia, She is in Daktar, Senegal.

Legal suits filed where?  São Tomé?  Suing whom?  The tour operator for promising to get the guests back on time, and failing?

NCL?  For what?  What contract did they breach?

I think if they sued NCL, it would probably have to be in the Bahamas.  You might be able to sue in the Federal District Court in Miami but they probably have a large backlog of cases, might take two or three years before you could get a court date.

We are in a suite on the pearl for an upcoming cruise. I understand we cannot use the Haven if we are in a penthouse suite. We are not very concerned about that but we are looking for a way are in a suite on the pearl for an upcoming cruise. I understand we cannot use the Haven if we are in a penthouse suite. We are not very concerned about that but we are looking for a place where we will be able to sit outside and enjoy either the pool or just The view but also get some shade. Any suggestions as to an area?

There areas along the edge of the pool deck where there is shade.  There is a little shade area outside of the buffet( back of the ship Deck12) in the Great Outdoors.  Deck 7, the Promenade Deck, there should be some deck chairs in the shade.

Hi all.  I was originally planning on having embarkation lunch at the American Diner before NCL cut out many of the menu offerings and it was  a perk for Haven booking (no charge on day 1, now included for all.----  My second choice would be to eat at the Local ----  I was just wondering how crowded that venue gets on embarkation day around 12:00-1:00.   Thanks, Anita

Probably packed especially right now in Spring Break cruises.  Taste or Savor (MDR's) would be a better choice.

You must have read same article I saw last week.  I don't believe it. Been on more than twenty cruises and watched many on and offs, some in big swells.  Dangerous, yes, but have not seen one fall.

You have never sailed out of Astoria, Oregon (across the Columbia River Bar-- one of the most dangerous places in the world). Bar (or Harbor) are among the most dangerous jobs in the world.

I suppose terms and conditions can get the cruise line out of pretty much anything but anytime I've heard of a story where a cruise line sponsored excursion has had delays to the point where passengers missed the ship then the cruise line covered the expenses to get passengers back to the ship at the next port or to the debark port depending on the itinerary.

Remember that this was NOT an NCL sponsored shore excursion.

Please keep us informed as to whether the passengers were able to reboard the ship at the next port.

Will still be a couple of days before they reach Dakar, Senegal, since they are not going to Gambia tomorrow.

As I understand it, the ship was out in the bay and they were using the lifeboats as tenders.  The lifeboats had been brought on board and stored.  The boarding platform and ladder had been secured.  The only way to have boarded at point would have been through the hatch like a Harbor Pilot jumping from the ship to the Pilot boat.  Much Much to dangerous for passengers to try.  Imagine the screams if someone had fallen into the ocean and died because they could NOT make the jump.

  11. I saw a posting after I wrote this one to say that Gunner had retired.

There have been a couple other Father and son(s) working for NCL.  At one time, Lars Bengtsson and all three of his sons were with NCL.  Captain Zeljko Jurac has a son currently a Bridge Officer on The Breakaway.

Is Captian Hakan Svedung still master of the Dawn?  If so, I would say there's definitely more to the story than is being reported; those types of decisions aren't arbitrary.  Either way, it's certainly not the cruise line's fault.  It's pretty clear when the departure times are; if they are "veteran cruisers," they should know that.  I think that there is obviously more to this story.

What does Captain Svedung or the Gem have to do with this situation on the Dawn?

Last I knew (several months ago), Captain Svedung was on the Joy.

Since it is a US Military installation, I wonder if a valid US Military ID would have sufficed?!

None the less, I imagine that paying close attention to "requirements" prior to disembarking in Key West is absolutely essential!

A valid US Military ID should work.  I never go anywhere without my Military ID.
